Had a room with a private bathroom. Perfect distance between the train station and kölnmesse. Clever use of small space. Very clean and tidy. Shower had great water pressure. Mini fridge was a good size, and easy to unplug when not in use. Big window had a tilt function to continuously let fresh air in without being wide open. It was really hot the week of my stay, and despite being on the top floor, the fan provided kept the room nice and cool. Really good find! The owner has the cutest cats, and there is a coffee machine and a lounge I didn't get to take advantage of, but the whole downstairs smelled of delicious roasted coffee every morning :)
Not a dislike, but a little heads up; the hotel has many stairs so be prepared that you'll need to carry your luggage up a couple of flights. Bed was a little hard, but I much prefer it to a bed that's too soft!

The hostess has been at her job there for about 25 years, and she's just as kind as she was when I first visited 23 years ago. This is a small budget hotel, run by people who value hospitality. There's a coffee lounge with an amazing coffee machine at guest disposal, and electric kettles you can take up to your room. No elevator, just a central stair, but I received help with my luggage both on the way up and on the way down. The rooms run from very basic singles to more spacious 2-3 people rooms. I found my small room to be more than ample during both of my stays, the one this year and the one many years ago.
elevators are always a plus, but when you book a budget hotel, that's not a real option. This place is squeaky clean, well-located, quiet, and affordable.

Very comfortable stay and big clean room. Free coffee from a fancy machine in the morning is a bonus and there were cats to play with :D they were pretty funny and friendly, lolz I was given a double room when staying which is beyond appreciated and much enjoyed. Everything was pretty good, worth while visiting if you are interested.
Not so much that I didn't like it, as it wasn't a problem for me but as others mention, the staircase can be a little difficult to navigate (slightly narrow and steep) so if you have trouble in this area, do bear it in mind. Also the keypad thing to get in at night got a little confusing so best to practice with it to get used to using it (which i didn't do, which is my own silly fault).

locaion was great plenty of cafes bakeries and small shops and bars within walking distance. larger shopping and fashion shops 10 to 15 minute walk or subway nearby too. quality fittings in room. ciffee machine dowstairs to use every morning.
if i had to complain about anything maybe pillows could be better. the euro pillow wasnt good to sleep with. i missed a fridge in the room. We had 2 suitcases and my poor husband had to carry them up the stairs. travel lighter next time.

The hotel was very clean and comfortable. There was adequate space for our luggage and hanging coats and things like that. I raised a minor issue with our host and it was resolved before we got home that evening. There was a mini-fridge in our room which was much appreciated, and the location was about a 15 minute walk from the main train station, cathedral etc. Communication from our host was excellent for check in and luggage storage, and they were very responsive to my questions.
There was no fan in the bathroom, so we had to open the window to let the steam out but the window looks onto a building across the street! We had to just prop it open a little bit until we were dressed. It would have been great to have a kettle in our room, although I understand that this adds to the cleaning burden. Our room was on the third floor and there was no lift. This wasn't a problem for us, but you need to know this if you have difficulty with stairs (especially if carrying luggage).

Comfortable, clean room in a great location. Cute building. Had a small refrigerator which was convenient and a window that looked out onto a cute courtyard. Accessible to almost everything. Nice lounge area, with access to coffee or tea, and a large table to do work or play games. Host was helpful. Got a fan for me as my stay was mid August and the weather was warm.
The room was a bit stuffy because of it being mid August, but the fan really helped.

The room was always clean, had enough space and had a fan which was a lifesaver. The staff was very helpful and would respond very quickly to my questions. Also could get a kettle from the lobby which was great. Its ~10 minute walking distance to the cathedral, multiple tram stations, as well as a massive park opposite side of the cathedral so very central location. Also sometimes you get to see the two most lovely cats in the lobby and it just makes you happy. Keycode access meaning not having to carry around a bulky key is a plus.
The pillow was sort of a big square and sometimes it would end up in weird shapes. Shower tends to splash outside the shower area a lot despite the curtain. Neither is a deal breaker though.

Room was very close to the city center, and there was a great restaurant 3 minutes of walking away. I loved the chocolate museum, and walking next to the Rhine. I also loved the opportunity to talk German with the hostes.
Room was pretty hot, so I didn't always have the best night of sleep. The room could benefit from airconditioning, especially in the summer! I tent to keep my negative messages short, so I'll keep it at this.

Very clean and well equipped room. Friendly and helpful owner. Accessible on foot (approx 15 minutes) to/from main train station, cathedral, museum Ludwig etc. Public transport nearby. Very good free coffee available (even though breakfast is not included).
No lift (though this is made clear when booking) and not too many steps). No reception I.e. self-service access via key code though I appreciate that this contributes to making it possible to keep the price a bit lower.

Very good room (no 10) which was clearly recently decorated. Excellent bathroom. Fan provided. Quiet, bed comfortable. We liked the ground floor room with coffee in the morning. Met the very friendly owner and her equally helpful mother. It says in the hotel description that there's no lift so no point complaining about this! Easy walk from main station and we had a meal a short distance away in a good neighbourhood restaurant.
