For a Canadian travelling to Leipzig for the first time and knowing "nur ein bisschen Deutsch," I found that Gästehaus Leipzig is a good example of what I have found in my (so far limited) other brief trips around Germany: it's better to know a lot more about where you are going before you get there. Given the impressive building which Gästehaus Leipzig occupies, and its proximity to the U.S. Consulate General located on Wilhelm-Seyfferth-Strasse 4, I suspected that the building might have an interesting history, and it does. Although, I only found this out from an internet search after returning from my trip, the building which was constructed in 1908 for the publisher Arthur Seemann on Wächterstraße 32, became the seat of the Polish Consulate General from 1936-1939. I'll let you look up the rest of its history as I did. Staying overnight at Gästehaus Leipzig also put me right next door to several other historic places such as the Federal Administrative Court of Germany located in a building whose construction was completed in 1895. The courtyard in front of this building became the location for the first freedom demonstrations in November 1989 which lead to the reunification of Germany. Also next door is the Leipzig University Library located in a building whose exterior sculptures reference some of key historic individuals who shaped the modern era. It also put me within walking distance to the New City Hall, the world famous Churches of St. Thomas and St. Nicholas, as well as the Johann Sebastian Bach Museum. The Old City Hall, built in 1556-57, aside from housing various presently active commercial shops, is also the location of the City of Leipzig's Historical Museum which was definitely worth a visit. My stay at Gästehaus Leipzig was enjoyable. My single room was quite clean with a modern bathroom and all the amenities. The management was quite accommodating and the breakfast buffett very good.

I do have to mention that on arriving at Gästehaus Leipzig, and not having a mobile phone which was able to call the contact number provided in the email which I received, I did find it a challenge to get through the locked gates at the front of the building. Luckily one of the policemen guarding the U.S. Consulate General allowed me to use his phone to call Gästehaus Leipzig, and the problem was solved. However, since I am presently trying to learn German anyway, I found the challenges (including deciphering the German email which I was sent) an opportunity. I might say that with my visit to Gästehaus Leipzig, "Ich war die Treppe hinaufgefallen."

I stayed at the Gästehaus Leipzig when I visited a RB Leipzig match. The place is really nice and the location great – very close to the city and also to the stadium. Check-in was as easy as can be. There was a small kitchen with a fridge, kettle and coffee machine. The rooms are a little outdated, but still in good condition, bath rooms renovated. I slept really well and had nothing to complain about.

Clean, tidy, freshly smelled and very spacious room. Very quiet area so that you can sleep in peace. All facilities were available. Good wifi signal, great location, many bus and tram stops are within 4 minutes walk distance. Nice staff (both the receptionist and the cleaner), clean toilet. Easy self check in as per the booking messaging.

The room was a bit cold at night. When I checked out very early around 5.30 A.M. the automatically driven stairs lights were not working! It was a complete darkness while I was in the second floor with a cabin bag

Large room. Breakfast was good and there was a lot of variety.

There were 61 stairs to our room and no elevator. The house is a block away from the police department and we heard many sirens in the night.

The huge clean airy room, baby cot, location and overall caring staff. I felt bit nostalgic as it resembled the guest houses where my father used to stay some 30 years back. Not many can relate but the clean red carpet, golden rimmed lamp shades, simple but ample breakfast...thanks for reminding me of my childhood. It was our first stay in a hotel with our 2yr old and we all loved it.

Breakfast was very good, meeting expectations. Happened to meet the chief consular officer while walking by the consular building while they were putting up 4th of July decorations and had a pleasant conversation.

The location was perfect, central but quiet except for the Saturday night revelries in the park close by. Everything worked well, and there was an excellent place to have breakfast close by as well as a very good restaurant in the evening.

I would have liked to be able to make tea in my own room rather than in the public space on the same floor. The first two day there was no black tea and today there was only one cup left to use.

Beautiful old building, with lots of historical elements. Newly refurbished and very close to the city center. Rooms very spacious, breakfast abundant (with nice staff to assist when something was missing). Situated next to the American Consulate, so very safe...-:)

To get to the front gate, with the GPS guiding you to a blocked road (by security staff to protect the Consulate), need some attention. For me personally, the matrass was very soft and could have been a bit harder (sorry...)
