A hotel like 1000s others in Europe - clean, comfortable, boringly identical. I don't have any particular good thing to say about this other than: "it was exactly as expected" - which in itself is a kind of praise, I guess?

The staff had trouble with invoices and especially editing them once they made a mistake - they could use some training. My window looked out onto a busy street so opening it left me with a lot of noise but with the window closed everything was ok.

The staff were great. Shout out to Patrick on reception and the lovely barman. The room was comfortable and I appreciated the full size desk with a proper office chair, plus the mini fridge. Good location, just next to the Rathaus Essen station, or less then ten minutes on foot to the main city station.

The breakfast was a bit underwhelming. Could do with more lighting in the bedroom. Lack of peep hole or door chain on the hotel room doors.

Close to restaurants and shopping. Superb breakfast. Comfortable beds. Clean. Great service.

They offered an incentive of a free drink at their bar if we skipped room service for the sake of the environment. The first day we did this but then thought we are taking work from housekeeping staff. If they are paid by the hour, we would be reducing their pay by declining room service. We didn't like the idea the hotel staff might be losing pay due to the hotel's promotion. Everything else was great and we recommend this place highly.

Patrick was a really nice and helpful staff. He went above and beyond to give us good recommendations and was super friendly and welcoming. The breakfast was also delicious and the beds were pretty comfortable. The room was nice and clean and had a simple design. Liked how there was a water heater and a refrigerator. Also liked the location of the hotel, was super easy to get to from the tram stop.

I wish the tv had a chrome cast so we could watch netflix or something. Also wish it was a little bigger. Next time will stay in a room with a bathtub.

New facilities, clean room, sound proof also good, nice staff, center of the city.

Mini bar had no price so we asked if we have to pay, the night shift staff told us all for free but morning colleague said not for free. In the end it was all for free, so it's a good reason to sign up for NH membership, just next time put a small price list in the mini bar then it'll be clearer :)

Breakfast was great, room was fantastic. The team at check in were really nice and friendly. The team looking after the dining room were very friendly too. The room was very clean, great amenities, and very quiet. Nice coffee machine :) and a huge balcony which I didn't expect, I thought it would just be a standard small one! This was more like a terrace that went right around the whole room. Wished we were staying longer!

The location of the NH Essen Hotel was perfect and convenient. The breakfast was worth the price of 16 euro per person.

However, the room cleaning service could be much better for a 4 stars hotel. Late cleaning, after 14.00 PM and not fully cleaning the room. We were missing one big towel, two tea cups and the bedsheets were not tucked in, see picture

Great location on the edge of Essen pedestrian shopping area (1 km, 10-15min walk from Essen Hbf trainstation to hotel), where Christmas Market is located spread out across the centre (which was our aim for this weekend). Rathaus shopping mall / U-bahn station across the street (big Real supermarket). Hotel as to be expected from NH chain. General areas nicely decorated, cozy atmosphere. Very well assorted buffet breakfast. From drinks to bread, sweets, fruits, yoghurts, meats & cheeses, eggs & beans. Compliments ! Rooms standard decor but well equipped. Good size. Large bathroom with walk-in shower. Could be our choice again.

Keep in mind, is our personal opinion: the room was quite hot. Could not get thermostate below 18 C. Opening the window....made it too cold. Bed cover (duvet ?) was very thick. Matras very hard. So while one was sleeping sort of OK for 2 nights, the other one was awake for 1/2 night because of heat & matras. Again, is personal, but still... Also, during our stay the hotelbar, where we would have liked to get a drink, was closed unfortunately. Not clear because of Covid measures or lack of staff.

The location is very central. And being central the room was soundproofed. Nice comfortable bed and sofa.

We were woken up by a staff who knocked and came into the room in the morning despite that we had the Do Not Disturb sign hanging on the door handle. That was not suppose to happen.

I like almost everything in this hotel! Modern, comfortable, in the centre of the city. Soundproof is great! The temperature in the room was very comfortable. And small gym is great!!! Will definitely come back!

Just one thing. I would love to have an electric teapot in the room. We wanted to drink some tea, and in the end it was quite expensive.
