Acropolis House is an old fashioned, family-run hotel in an 1880s town house between Syntagma and Plaka. It has a real family feel - there are kids’ toys among the bric à brac - and breakfast is Greek: ham, cheese, olives, an egg, etc, served at table. Keys are left casually on the reception counter. Bedroom furniture is old style: bed with carved wooden headboard, marble-hopped tables, etc. The shower room is Greek style: small and dimly lit. The family are obviously proud of their old house, which retains some of its 1880s wall paintings. My ceiling also had fragments of fresco that resurfaced in the 1999 earthquake. The hotel has something of the feel of the Grand Hotel de Londres in Istanbul, only in this case without the ‘Grand’. I liked this place a lot, but it won’t suit people who require modern international standards.

The bathroom lighting is dim. OK by me, but that might be an issue for anyone wanting to shave or apply makeup, or both.

We were welcomed by friendly staff upon arrival. Breakfast was simple and delicious! Figs were in season and I had no idea how delicious they were! The cooks orange cake is AHMAZING! It was difficult to find better upon our travels. Semi quiet ares, only one of the nights did we hear music down the street. Once we closed the balcony door we did not hear anything.

My only complaint would be not having someone help get suitcases up the stairs to the rooms. Thankfully we were on the second floor and managed. If you are unable to get your own suitcases up a flight or two of stairs either do not stay here or ask for a room on the main floor when booking.

My only concern is that the hotel does not have an elevator (this is a historical house and they are not allowed to add one) so for people with a heavy luggage they cannot easily move up and downstairs (like myself) it could be a problem. This was not a problem for me because the staff allowed me to have a room at the level of the street (there are a few of them). The staff were all exceptionally welcoming and the location of the hotel is excellent. The street is not noisy even when the windows open directly at the level of the street. The breakfast is also very good and if one cannot take it in their room they prepare a very nice breakfast box that is ready very early in the morning. The hotel also arranged for transportation from and to the airport that worked very well.

The rooms here are VERY old and basic - and very small for a family of three. However, the location, staff and cleanliness more than made up for this. We would definitely go back there. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff, the breakfast was superb and the location could not be beaten if it's your first time in Athens and you want to do all the main sights!

As mentioned above, the rooms were extremely old and basic and too small for three people (but they were very clean). We got over this very quickly though, as the positive stuff more than made up for it.

Location is perfect, very close to all the tourist sites in Athens, 5-10 mins walk to entrance Acropolis. Lots of good restaurants and cafes nearby. Easy to reach and find from Syntagma metro station (direct line from airport for €9 pp). Breakfast was good, staff friendly and beds comfy. Possibility to store luggage when arriving early or departing late.

Stairs and hall are dark, place would benefit from maintenance and uplift (eg curtains held in place by cable ties), feels more like a hostel than a hotel. Room could have been cleaner (eg sticky bedside tables)

Very cool historic old building in a central location. All of the sights of Athens within walking distance. A few unique things about the place as is common in old European hotels but we felt very welcome and liked the place. Substantial breakfast provided that we enjoyed.

Nothing major at all but we speak no Greek and while they understand English, we did not understand how the breakfast timing worked (they will give you a reservation time rather than just popping down when you are up) One day and we figured it out

The room I had was very spacious, and the bathroom was too. Especially the entrance and the breakfast room are authentic and stem from the 19th century. The hotel is owned by a family of whom the people were very friendly to me.

Some glass tiles in the bathroom were broken. It's an old building, but stuff shouldn't be broken. Also the room wasn't very sound proof.

The location of the hotel was perfect for exploring the city center on foot. The price was fair and the staff was very friendly and useful. They even provided me with an iron to iron my clothes. It's perfect for staying a few nights.

The room was clean but I felt that the towels and the sheets could have used some fabric softener to smell more fresh. The bathroom was a bit small, but it was expected from an old traditional building.

LOCATION: The hotel was well located in Plaka 6 minutes from Syntagma Square and 10 minutes from Monastiraki square. FACILITIES: The room had everything you need. STAFF: The staff were very pleasant & welcoming. Penny in particular who served breakfast was really friendly and worthy of mention. And her breakfast, what a breakfast! A real feast of goodies included figs, boiled eggs & her Grannies home-made cake recipe. Delicious & all served with a smile.

Nothing.

The location was great. Walking distance to all the shops, restaurants, and historical sites. The breakfast was good and the staff was very friendly. I would definitely stay here again! It was a very good value.

The rooms were very small. There were many steps to get up to my room. However, the staff was kind and was willing to store my suitcase, so I did not have to drag it up the stairs. It was good for one or two nights. It is very old and very historic.
