My family and I have been coming to Crete since 1967. I remember meeting the owner at that time and in the following years. He was always a nice man. We have stayed at the Kastro Hotel many years. We have seen it modernize and upgrade over the past 50 years. Always improving, and always the staff pleasant and helpful who have kept the standards of hospitality that the old owner established from the beginning. Congratulations to the current owner, who i believe is his son, and all the members of the staff who have carried on such a fine tradition.

We have stayed in Kastro hotel in the past. It is nice and central, chances are that we will stay again.

Our room did not have a good view, we have been luckier in the past. The other problem, shared by all hotels though, is that there is never a light blanket, no sheet either, only a heavy duvet that doesn't suit the Cretan climate for most of the year. A sheet and a light blanket is an insignificant investment. But I'm sure it will pay back.

Very central location in a small side street, 1-2 min walk to main shopping/restaurants etc, 5 mins walk from Venetian harbour. There is a tiny restaurant cross the road, try it for authentic Greek food & hospitality, very cheap for a city centre location. Stayed in room 26 at the front of the hotel….. very quiet given location of room. Newly refurbished, our room was immaculate.

Breakfast wasn’t the best, limited choice, water & fruit juice room temp, eggs all over cooked . Maybe not great if u have mobility issues as there are lots of steps/stairs which are very narrow & steep including inside & outside the hotel. Sits on the corner of a busy junction so pick up & drop off is a bit of a nightmare for taxi drivers

The location is great, it was very clean and comfortable. We hang out at the balcony on the 7th floor, it is beautiful and you can watch the airplanes land since the Heraklion airport is near. Approximately 10 minutes driving from the airport. We had to leave very early in the morning and didn't try the regular breakfast, but the staff provided us with some eggs, ham and fruit before we left.

The description was a little misleading-it says there's a parking but the parking situation in Heraklion is disastrous at best and there is no hotel parking but they have a deal with a garage nearby to offer the guests a discounted price (8€ for 24 hours). The parking place requires leaving your car keys until the pickup, so of course, we declined and found another spot. Again, extremely difficult to find a parking spot anywhere near.

The staff was really welcoming and nice . The location was great- close to the city center and Venetian port . Room was very modern.

This hotel is a gem. It is not a beach hotel, but is located very convienently for a visit to Heraklion and departure by ferry. The staff are incredibly helpful and friendly. The breakfast is varied, with regional items to make you feel you are really in Greece, but specifically on the Island of Crete. The room I was assigned surprised me and really went beyond what I was expected. I have stayed in this hotel now for the fourth time and every time it gets better and better.

I suppose this hotel might not meet the needs of every traveler... especially those looking for a beach holiday. But it is perfect for those interested in the cultural treasures Crete has to offer.

Loved this hotel! Clean, great room, balcony, rooftop terrace, wonderful breakfast featuring rusk & instruction how to make breakfast with it. Staff was so kind & helpful. Thanks to them, we got to eat at Peskesi twice. Hotel 1-2 blocks from lots of restaurants.

Unfortunately, one night during a wind storm, pieces of a metal barrel on the roof across the street hammered against each other most of the night. Certainly not the hotel’s fault. Would be great if it could be fixed.

Fantastic location. Cannot beat it for sunset and caldera views of the Thera area. great to walk in either direction. Very close to shopping and many restaurants.

The plunge pool was not working when we visited in May ‘23. That for us was a deal breaker, especially wit h grown up kids with us, a real bummer for the whole family. Would have been awesome to sit in the hot tub and enjoy the lovely views. The breakfast is very passable. The exact same thing each day, avoid paying for it. Instead some great places outside to eat including just Greek yoghurt bars. The room for our grown up family of 4 was a bit inconvenient with just one bathrooms inside the bedroom. Also the ACs are in the living room so you need to keep bedroom doors open to let the cool air in, no privacy. The location is bang opp the cable car so a gazillion tourists in the area, it’s also in the sopping district. So if you want a quiet secluded place, this is not the one.

Our room was spacious and with an excellent and roomy bathroom. It gave onto a wide balcony and had beside it a larger rooftop terrace. The breakfast was copious and varied. Of particular importance to us was the location (close to the very centre 5 minutes' walk uphill and the same distance from the waterfront) and the availability of a parking building only 30 metres away with which the hotel had negotiated a very cheap daily rate. The staff were very friendly and helpful.

The door lock system was new to me and I would have preferred having an optional light bed cover in the event of the duvet proving too hot.

Staff concerned, the hotel is very clean and central. The rooms were very well furnished and had good and new equipment prepared with every point in mind. The rooms were extremely clean, especially the lighting was specially worked on. We did not expect such a good room. The breakfast was sufficient. However, the service was inadequate. Only one person was working. Enough if you don't keep your expectations high. Had fresh portajal juice. The hotel is good for the price.

After booking at the hotel, they do not give you enough information about the parking lot. In fact, there is a parking lot very close to the hotel. It will be much better if we share the location of the parking lot with the customer. because you can reach the hotel after passing the car park. To return to the car park, you have to draw a big circle. Anyway. There are 7 steps at the entrance to the hotel and there is no platform where you can drag your suitcase. You do not meet anyone until you enter the hotel and find the reception. They work very long hours at the reception and they are tired.
