The remoteness & peacefulness. We had veggie burgers & chips after check in and had the dining srea to ourselves with that magnificent view from the hotel’s panoramic windows. Breakfast was self service and plentiful. You won’t go hungry. There is an outside hot tub which my other half said was amazing.

The road leading to the hotel is a disaster and we had approached it off route 1 so we had 22km to travel over gravelly & potholed roads. A really stressful drive. They are currently asphalting the road but we urge extreme caution driving on it at the moment. A 4x4 is required atm.

Located in an area far from everything, if that is what you are looking for this is your place. The room is spacious, well furnished and clean and the bathroom the same. Good temperature inside. They have a small hot spring in the garden next to a river that I am not sure if it is natural or artificial, we did not use it, but they offer you bathrobe and slippers in case you want to use it.

The breakfast was the weakest, very few options, no fruit, no pastries, thermos coffee and no hot milk. There is a lot of room for improvement there. The access road to the hotel is bad.

Clean, comfy beds, spacious rooms, hot tub clean and hot with great view. Good breakfast, range of things available. Staff were friendly, informative and highly competent. Bath robes and slippers provided for tub.

Having a room on the one side of the hotel that looks out into the parking isn’t super interesting. At more plus hotels in the upper price range. It would be nice to see one or two unusual things things that differ from the standard spread of continental usual things at breakfast. Why has no one in Iceland so far understood, English tea made properly must have boiled water and milk ?- never coffee creamer 😂 5 return visits and two ring road tours and this still seems an illusive concept.

The property, while remote, is nearly brand new absolutely stunning. The hotel owner has thought of everything. It is beautiful positioned up on a hill with spectacular views of sunsets. WE were provided with beautiful rooms, hot tub robes, and a lovely breakfast buffet. Staff were very friendly and helpful in terms of choosing the best routes to drive nearby.

The final few kilometres into the hotel is a gravel road with some potholes. Just take your time and drive carefully. The parking lot is also gravel, so wheeling suitcases is a bit tricky. Maybe pull up closer to the doorway to unload.

This place is spectacular. From the location to the facilities and staff everything was luxury. I made a mistake with my Icelandic, got the word for anniversary wrong and mentioned honeymoon instead - was greeted with a very nice detail from the staff. The two nights here were amazing, the room was spacious with a great view, breakfast was plentiful and could even use the outdoors hot tub which uses hot spring water. I would recommend this hotel to anyone and wish I come back many more times. Thanks for everything!!

The access can be daunting in bad weather but nothing a good car and positive attitude cannot overcome :)

The hotel is located away from the city in seclusion. There is a hot tube near a picturesque stream, dinner is offered. We had a cheeseburger and lamb. Delicious ! The rooms are spacious and have everything you need. The breakfast is delicious. We especially want to thank Łukasz for his help, understanding and smile.

We had to find last minute accommodation when the road got closed to the east and we couldn't get to our original accommodation. We found this gem of a place and couldn't be happier!!! Thor who hosted us on the 1st night was amazing, answered all our abundance of questions regarding the northern lights and is just overall a lovely funny guy. The facilities are GORGEOUS! A little off the beaten track, which is what we love. This made it ideal to see the aurora on both or our nights there, with no lights around. Even the starry sky itself is worth a stay. The hot tub is the best place to marvel at this. The food at the restaurant was fantastic too. We tried the burgers, with the best chips, the lamb and the cod - all were delicious! We could absolutely highly recommend this place and if we ever get the opportunity to come back to Iceland, I would easily book a stay here again.

That we had to leave...

Out of the way location, about 30 minutes from Borganes, but a very nice place. Very comfortable room with king size bed and nice shower. Fantastic outdoor hot tub where you could watch the sunset. There is a bar and restaurant where you can get dinner on site. The dining room has large glass windows so you could see peaceful scenery. The breakfast was pretty basic, standard cold items. It was an amazing place to watch the Aurora. The staff was exceptionally nice and helpful.

After a very long flight and drive straight from Keflavik airport, arriving at Basalt Hotel was exactly what we needed. We were greeted warmly, the shower was hot, our dinner of roast lamb fillet was excellent and the bed we collapsed into was very comfy. The hotels location is very pretty and while it feels like it’s in the middle of nowhere it’s not hard to find. We put the GPS coordinates into the hire cars nav system and drove straight there. Breakfast next morning was a self serve buffet and also very good.

The hotel is in the middle of nowhere, road up here is long but with stunning views .Rooms are ok, they also have a hottube outside .

The restaurant closing at 21, breakfast poor, put on little plates and if there are more than 3 persons at once you must ask for a refill . We made the Golden circle and reach the hotel from the long route. In rainny days road are muddy and we have to clean the car using a bottle with water. A hose with water would ' ve been usefull.
