We really enjoyed the breakfast - the service was so friendly and there was a variety of food. The hotel is very close to the town of Borgarnes with several restaurants. There was a hot tub and sauna available at no charge, and a cozy public space with a water view. You could walk to the beach. The host who greeted us was from Iceland and we loved talking with him about our travels and his. He answered a lot of questions we had about Iceland, in particular the education system.

The sleeping rooms were very basic - small, and the bathroom wasn't great. But the view and the staff made up for that.

We stayed in the main part of the hotel just across from the sauna and viewing room (as I refer to it). It had a large window overlooking the water where I enjoyed a peaceful morning before we left for the day. After a comfortable night's sleep, we enjoyed a delicious breakfast which included several options for herring, fruit, and bread. The owner (?) was a little gruff, but actually quite friendly and helpful in finding out information about the local fauna. Perfect location for exploring the Snaefellsness Peninsula. The room was on the small side, but not unreasonable for the price.

The only drawback to this location is the sulfuric smell to the water. It made taking a shower a bit off-putting, but if you're only staying one night and can skip a shower (or you're willing to take a quick shower), then you shouldn't let this turn you away from an otherwise great location.

Breakfast and amenities are great. There is no kitchen, but you can boil water easily there. There is tea, coffee, and hot chocolate for you to enjoy too. Hot tub and sauna as well. The rooms are good. The shower is OK.

Basically, BE AWARE that there are flees that bite you and then you're going to be itching all over the place afterwards for a week AT LEAST. Be prepared and have some spray against them. They're going to have a good time eating you at night. Also, it's a bit too warm in the rooms, so you'll have to have windows open 100% of the time if you don't want to boil, but this allows for flees to come, so either cover up or bring spray!

Renting a cabin to cook by yourself is one of the best ways to save money on Iceland. So that's what we did at Hafnarfjall, using it as a basis to explore the Snaefellsnes peninsula, and the stay was absolutely amazing. Kitchen was equipped with most basics you would expect, so cooking small meals when returning in the evening was no problem. And while you had the space for yourself and didn't hear anybody else, you never felt alone as multiple seperate cabins are placed here in a row, and also the Hotel is just up the road. Just a few meters to the beach, mountains in your back and on the last morning we even were lucky enough to have a view all the way to Snaefellsjökull! Besides, the cabin was easy to heat up, big and comfy bed, and clean - all for a very good price. Last but not least, the owner was super friendly, up for a talk and explaining what you could do in the area! We'd book here again when (not if!) we return to Iceland, as this was the perfect location for us to really arrive in Iceland and feel at home.

While the kitchen was equipped with most basics, a drain would be a nice addition, although not a must.

Don't expect the Hilton, but I really prefer this hotel for a stay in Iceland! The atmosphere in the hotel suits the island. The hotel is located near by Borgarnes (<2 min by car) and is een great starting point for visiting the south (Selfoss), Reykjavik and the Westcoast.During low season there's no breakfast in the hotel. No worries: a bakery is nearby, you can also buy a coffee there. At the hotel you can buy a voucher to get some discount. The hotel is quite simple, but really, really great! I stayed for five days in a superior room. The bathroom is fine en clean. The room was very clean, a small fridge was available in the room, als a Nespresso machine and a kettel. The owner is very friendly and is gives advice about traveling and the weather. Check-in and check-out was simple (key was in a keylock, so check-in can 24/7).

We stayed at one of the cabins. The view on the mountain was beautiful. We didn’t know they had a sauna and hottub. There was even an space were you could sit and relax and look at the stunning view. Ghat facilities were awesome! Breakfast was also good and had everything we needed. The lady that works there was the best, so kind and worked really hard!

The cabins looked nice on the outside but on the inside the were kind of old and we did expect more for that kind of money. Next time i would book a room in the hotel.

Through booking.com we had received an upgrade of the room, so the two of us had an apartment with plenty of space :). The apartment was wonderful! Very large and furnished with style. There was even a large balcony with sofa, overlooking the sea and Borgarnes. From there you can definitely marvel at great northern lights in the right weather conditions. The windows are large and there is even an armchair at the slanted skylight, so you can also look at the sky from inside. The kitchen not only looks good, but is also well equipped. The breakfast was very good and very varied, larger covered than in other hotels. We felt completely comfortable and would come again!

Amazing cottage and the view is stunning. There is a kitchen and everything for cooking. Breakfast is really good.

We very much enjoyed our stay and surrounding are very beautiful. However, the cottages are positioned in a bit of a weird angle so that you look at other cottages. 2 other cottages in front of our one had a better view and it seemed that only the first one had the full privacy and the best view. Everything esle was amazing and it was one of the best places we stayed in Iceland.

We stayed in the first cottage with a sideway view to the fjord and to Borgarnes. The Settlement Center there has great food and the town is also nice to walk in. Besides, the location is next to the highway close to Reykjavik and the surrounding area for hiking etc. but you do not hear any noise from the highway itself. The cottage is quite small but large enough for a couple like us staying for a few nights and still being more than comfortable. The kitchen was decently outfitted with one pan, couple of pots, a coffee and tea (maker) and some spices etc. We made our own meals and it worked. The beds were a bit on the hard side for us. Bathroom quite small but it had a good shower. Wifi was good enough.

A small thing, but the cottage lacked a bit of love...this feeling that someone really takes care of it, you know. For example, the shower tub was visible because one of the cover boards was removed and it had not been reattached, the smoke alarm in the kitchen just lay on the sink, no one had reattached it to the ceiling, the sofa was worn and the leather cracked, and there was no place to put clothes on while one of the corners in the cabin could perfectly fit a few shelves and drawers instead of being completely empty now.

We were late arriving- and pretty worn out- the host was about to call and check on us he said, when we arrived. We were often out of cell range so, not sure his effort would have been successful. The cottage was quiet and private and a short walk to the strand. It had everything one could need in the kitchen (except possibly a can opener? but I’m sure the manager has one if it’s needed). Towel warmer in bathroom plus windows one can open for fresh air a very nice touch . Fridge was good. Breakfast choices very wide ranging and tasty. And excellent coffee.

The shower curtain not reaching the bottom of the shower pan, but easily Made better by simply lowering the rod to proper height. Room extremely hot when we arrived which had us wondering whether due to solar exposure or radiators which did not seem to be turned on… and the fact that the geothermal spa was closed because it gets emptied each day at 10 pm. Not opened again until 5 pm. So we did not get to use that feature which was one that prompted our choosing this room over others in the area.
