Cool building! I would love to have that top floor as an apartment, but it has not had even a fraction of the TLC it could do with. The kitchen and girls dorm have lovely wooden sloping ceilings, and the stairs and entry from the street are lovely.

Oh dear. The staff are sullen. Almost hostile. The beds in the six bed girls dorm are actually six bunks and three single beds, and their mattresses still have the crunchy plastic on them that was put on them leaving the mattress factory. The bathroom door in the dorm needs to be sanded down as it is too big for the doorway and makes a massive noise when opening or closing. There was also seeming to seep out from the shower in under the wall into my corner of the dorm, but maybe that has been taken care of in the meantime.

The receptionist guy was very competent, understanding and good at explaining everything (both in Italian and English). I felt safe and comfortable in my room, knowing that there is very little chance that something might happen, because guests' safety is definitely a priority at this hostel. Plus the name "Hostel California" is the funniest thing I've ever heard, like they were already getting a 10/10 from me just for the name alone. Spoiler alert: the checking-out process went much better than in the song :))

The only things that I kind of already expected but was still a bit disappointed in were the cleanness of the bathrooms (this tells more about the state other guests leave it in rather than the workers, since two bathrooms for like 20 people at one floor is not enough to always keep tidy, dry and non-sticky). Also, maybe it's a fault at my part - but they did not give out any covers/duvets for the bed, so it was freezing at night. Probably could have asked for some from them, but I realised that I was freezing all night closer to morning and it was too late.

It was clean, tidy and comfortable. I can't really understand all the bad reviews.. I had my fair share of hostel stays around Europe, and Hostel California is no different than any average hostel I've ever been to. Wifi was fast, staff very helpful, rooms and beds were clean, and the price was very affordable. Two toilets in 10 beds room were more than enough, and they vere pretty clean by hostel standards.

Hostel’s located in quiet area, stuff were welcomed, and other guest in my room nice. Comfortable bed clean sheets provided good rest. I found good restaurants and cafes in neighborhood.

It was hot, and room without AC, what for me and other guests in my room was no problem, big ventilator done pretty good job, so that was also + in our case

The staff were more than brilliant! So welcoming, friendly, chatty. They took a good care of my personal items to be safe and gave me last towel available. Upgraded me to a room with less people so I could rest. Reception was available all night. There is kitchen fitting a lot of people and kettle to boil the water. For this little price all amenities were enough and it was clean.

The conditioner in our bathroom made a loud sound and woke everybody up when I wanted to go to shower. Hope it gets fixed :)

Amro, the receptionist (with specs and beard )was great. He was nice, down to earth. The vibe was nice just because of people around there. Everyone were friendly.

I didn't find any other receptionist friendly or accommodating except Amro. We need guys like Amro to take care of this place. Not like the other receptionist with yellow jacket, especially. I told Amro about my knee issue and he gave me the berth in bunker bed. Other guy didn't understand my issue and asked me to switch to top bed even though the bottom one was free. Never let this yellow jacket guy to deal with customers. He spoils your hospitality. All he does is chill with his friends and flirt with girls.

The location is nearby the central Station of Milan with easy access to Metro Pasteur Red Line. The cost is flexible and great, the cleanliness and hygiene level is good and good staffs are nice, cool especially Muhammad.

I personally suggest that the check-in time be a bit (an hour) at least earlier than 14:30. The personal door lockers are tiny and small with less security, I suggest that this should be put into consideration.

Everything, still don't know why this hostel has such bad rate. One major thing you can get the best Italian food around without tourist prices, meaning pasteries, pizzas, full meals...

Far from center, you need around 20 min to be in Duomo.. From hostel location to center

The location is good. The guy on the reception was a thorough gentleman and accomodated me a lot. The room was good and heated well. Bed was comfortable and neat with clean sheet and blanket.

There were eight beds and the guys were not respectful of others. Their mobiles were alarming early in the morning for long time. The washroom was not really clean. Also, no soap was there.
