Beautiful historic hotel with loads of character. Staying there feels like being transported back in time. Location is great. On the river and within walking distance of all major sights in the city (Leaning Tower about 10-15 minutes walk). Good value for money. Big rooms, decent breakfast. Lovely roof terrace full of plants and with drinks service. You will find mixed reviews of this place - some people love it, some hate it due to its age - but as long as you know what you're booking and you don't expect everything to be brand new and shiny like a boring chain hotel then go for it! It's the oldest hotel in Europe so of course it will have a few cracks here and there but we found it part of the charm.

The interior was quite beautiful! It was obvious it is a historic building and very well kept. Parking was available for 15 euro per night, but it's best to reserve in advance because there are very few spots. Shopping and a variety of restaurants within a 5 minute walk.

As with most old buildings, the plumbing is a problem. The tub didn't drain well while showering. Also, the windows are historic, which is beautiful, but the noise from the street made it difficult to sleep well.

location was very good

not much soundproofing, the windows were very thin and didn’t stop the noise. plus one of the shutters on the window didn’t close properly

An amazing example of a historic hotel on the riverside of Pisa. Wonderful helpful staff, an amazing riverside room with balcony. Very efficient and clean but with a mix of antiques, quirky furniture and touches throughout the whole property. It was an 'experience' for us rather than just a stay. Excellent location where the staff advised us of their favourite restaurants and that the hotel is no more than 12 minutes walk in any direction to all of the attractions of Pisa (so much more here than the just Tower) We will stay here again for sure.

Nothing, the stay from start to finish was excellent

The location was superb and the view over the Arno river was amazing- especially at sunset. Everything is within walking distance as well which makes it the perfect spot for sightseeing, eating, museums. The staff was super nice and helpful and the building has a great historical feel. The room is as incredibly spacious with lovely Hugh ceilings. The bathroom could do with a refresh. But overall it was a great stay. Watch out for those big wooden lion feet at the base of the bed frames. Lights out and walking around the room and BAM! My little toe was blue and purple for a week!

Our stay at this hotel was to be a one-night stopover after arriving on a late flight. We left wishing we could've stayed longer. Due to the cost of the stay being so very reasonable, we didn't hold out much hope for the standard of the accommodation, especially as we had breakfast included in the price. Well, weren't we in for a shock?! And a very pleasant one at that. I don't think I've ever stayed at a hotel so steeped in history, antiques and so many objects of interest. From the grand and awe-inspiring entrance and foyer to the beautifully painted ceilings in the bedrooms and the open communal spaces that included a fabulous balcony overlooking the River Arno. As for the breakfast, the breakfast room itself and the food we ate was divine. We wouldn't hesitate to return to the Royal Victoria Hotel if ever find ourselves in Pisa again. A real treat for the senses.

I can't think of anything I didn't like about this hotel.

The location with its close proximity to bars, restaurants and attractions. The ability to have private secure parking at the property was invaluable in such a busy city, best to pull up outside first to get directions from reception to it. The roof terrace was a good place to have a drink and relax. We liked the quirkiness and faded elegance of the building. The continental breakfast had plenty of choice and the waitress was very friendly and informative. All the staff were pleasant, friendly and helpful.

It didn't have a full length mirror (or any mirror) in the room with a socket nearby. We only found the roof terrace because we were on the fourth floor near it, needs advertising in the lobby or at reception or even in the room.

The Royal Victoria Hotel is more than a hotel, it is an experience. We booked an economy room as we were only in Pisa for one night. It has the charm of the Grand Tour and the lobby is decorated with photos and articles from this period. The room was a little basic but we hadn't paid much. However there were so many interesting elements to the hotel, we found it charming. The best however were the staff. Reception couldn't do enough and when I went to book a taxi to the airport for very early the next morning, they sent Negronis to the room for us. Our very early flight meant we didn't sample breakfast. The concierge who was working at 3.00 am couldn't have been more accommodating. He helped us change the time of the taxi and brought us a lovely, much needed espresso!

I wish we had stayed longer and are planning to. It is a real treat but note that this is not a modern, bland ubiquitous hotel chain hotel. It is a period piece which I hope stays as it is for the next time we visit.

Breakfast was a little basic, a fresh fruit salad not whole oranges/ apples etc. fresh loaves of bread, not just rolls. Some hot eggs, bacon or similar. Nice staff. Great atmosphere and lovely old furniture. Love the roof terrace, now part covered. Glad to be back.

The front of house welcome was brusque and not very welcoming. We were early and leaving our luggage until check in time. We were returning to Hotel after a few years but no interest from front of house. Some maintenance needed. Broken lamp on bedside, shower leaking.
