I have stayed a few times pre-covid and always loved San Pio. They have renovated the restaurant area since covid and now serve dinner - very good option after a big tourist day. The lovely F&B staff and Housekeeping staff really make the difference at San Pio. The highlight is always breakfast in the lovely atrium - so beautiful! I love staying in Aventino in a suburb of Rome rather than in the chaos of of the centre - who needs that stress on holiday - and yet it is 20 mins walk to Colosseo and public transport nearby can get you to every corner of Rome. Thank you for another very enjoyable visit.

I had to leave for the airport - mind you Madeira was also great!

The hotel has very good decor and the room size was bigger than expected with a whirlpool bath and shower. The breakfast was better than average but was a little repetitive. The location wasn't the worst as the area is near metro stations and a little further out than most tourist traps.

The only slight negative was the breakfast as I prefer a cooked option in addition to breads and cereals but this didn't detract from a great overall experience.

The location is great. Nice and hidden making it very quiet. Staff were very attentive and always happy to help and assist. The gardens within the property and the decor is beautiful and sets it apart from a standard hotel.

The room facilities need updated. The shower is a big grubby and our sheets had dry blood looking stains on them - droplets. The hair dryer is terrible so bring your own. And a kettle or a free bottle of water would have been a nice addition. Also, the room became unbearably hot. We turned the ‘air conditioning’ on but it just blew warm air. So we slept with the windows open all night, which was fine until 7am when locals left for work.

Fantastic hotel that exceeded our expectations in every respect. It is a set in a quiet leafy neighbourhood just a few minutes walk from the Circus Maxiumus so in easy reach of all the major sightseeing locations. The hotel has been tastefully created from three substantial villas; our room was well equipped with excellent air conditioning and lovely view across the courtyard. Staff were very friendly and efficient with nothing too much trouble. The breakfast (included in our rate) was varied and we had an excellent evening meal in the restaurant too. There is secure on-site parking at a very reasonable rate for a city centre. If we travel to Rome again, this will be top of our list.

The location was great. We also enjoyed the breakfast, the customer service and the beautiful hotel grounds. The breakfast in particular was fabulous and we enjoyed waking up for it each day.

Our TV did not work, which was odd for a hotel that otherwise seems very stately. The beds were also extremely hard, to the point it was very hard to get a good night’s rest. If you require soft bedding, this might not be a good pick. The shower was also quite dated. The hot shower lasted just 5 minutes or so, and the buttons on the sides did not work. For us, we were mostly in the city, so it wasn’t a huge issue. But for those who want to spend a lot of “down time” in the hotel room, it might not be as great.

This hotel was honestly 20/10! My room was so spacious and so aesthetically pleasing! I couldn't believe it was a standard double room, it looked like a suite and I felt like a queen in it. And not just the room, the whole place was so beautiful! The staff were so nice and friendly and made me feel incredibly welcomed. They cleaned the room and the bathroom, changed the sheets and replaced the used towels with clean ones every single day. They also served breakfast at the restaurant downstairs every morning and you could either have it in the garden outside, or in the beautiful glass gazebo. It was a buffet-style breakfast and there were so many delicious options! They had different types of pies, sponge cakes, croissants, fruit salads, yogurts, boiled eggs, cheese, bacon... and of course coffee, cappuccino, hot chocolate, etc. The location was also great, 10 mins away from Circo Massimo and close to the Colliseum, too. The city center is a half-hour walk away which I found great because it's close enough so you don't need to use any public transport to get there but at the same time the hotel is in a very beautiful and quiet area, away from the super busy centre. Overall, I enjoyed my stay so much and I recommend this stunning hotel 100%!

The best thing about this hotel is the location (15 minutes by foot to the Colosseum), the atmosphere of the outside areas (pretty Christmas lights), and the helpfulness of the reception staff (helped us book restaurant tables), as well as the ability to park your car and charge your electric vehicle, if reserved beforehand, even though that service is paid. The included breakfast is decent, and the restaurant is available for dinner as well, if you reserve it.

The bathroom window did not close all the way, which made the bathroom temperature pretty cold during our December stay. The shower also did not get much warmer than lukewarm. We mentioned this to the staff, and were told it was going to be fixed, but we did not see it happen during our time here. Perhaps for the next guests. The room was smaller in real life than it appeared on the pictures, but that seems to be the norm for most hotels.

Location was really good and central. Fantastic hotel, lovely big room with super king bed. Breakfast typical but did lack variety especially as we stayed one week. Staff are really good, very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. My only comment is 1. Only one plug in the bedroom, so struggled to charge both phones etc, easily solved with a couple of USB plugs added. Also, big one fir me no tea/ coffee making facilities in your room, so you have to buy from hotel and tea ( yes my passion) was 6 euros, so over a week it mounts up. Ate at hotel once in the evening, good food but service a little slow, but didn't mind. Overall this is a fab hotel, and we wouldn't hesitate to recommend or stay again. Thanks totally the staff.

No tea/coffee facilities in room Only one plug to charge in room Breakfast could be a little more varied on different days

Breakfast was varied and plentiful, well prepared and the indoor or outdoor seating areas were excellent. The room was clean and spacious with high ceilings and shutters. I loved the tall net curtains and the aircon worked well. The location was as expected. Lovely and peaceful but just over the hill from all the attractions and city. A comfortable stroll away from good restaurants too.

I find it hard to pick any faults with this hotel. My partner is vegan and they did have oat /soya milk but little else. There were, however, some items she could eat in the buffet style breakfast. Some hotels we have stayed at make a special effort to help, by bringing in a few vegan items and basics like soya spread for her bread etc.

November 2023

Breakfast offerings were extravagantly satisfying, and the room itself, especially the marble bathroom, wonderfully luxurious. The location, too, in a quite area on the crest of the Aventine, was serene and provided ready access, via a cobbled pathway, to the tholos of Hercules the Victor and Temple of Portunus at the bottom of the hill--and the Bocca della Verità. From the romantic Parco Savello, a short stroll from the hotel, there is a beautiful view over the chaotic city toward St. Peter's Basilica.

Given the sumptuous breakfast and marbled rooms, the firm bed and even firmer pillows were inexplicably covered (presumably for sanitary reasons) with a protective rubber slip. Mercifully, more pillows were provided and the rubber cover readily removed.
