This elegant little hotel is in the very central but quiet neighborhood of Aventino Hill. Sandwiched between the Tiber and the Circus Maximus, it is a perfect antidote to the crazy and crowded historical city center. You can walk to all the major sites easily as well as take advantage of Aventino sights like the Malta keyhole and the glorious Parco della Arancia with sweeping views of Rome. The rooms, gardens and communal spaces are very elegant and the perfect coffee or cocktail bar is right in the lobby. Breakfast was very good and starts early, at 7. They have sat least one sister hotel on the Hill as well, with a very good restaurant . We had a super early flight out at the front desk was very kind and arranged a car. I would definitely stay here again and again.

The service was amazing each of the staff was extremely accommodating. Riccardo was very knowledgeable about the history of Roma and went over and beyond to ensure or vacation was better than planned.

I hate to say anything bad. Please forgive me for saying the bed was extremely hard which made it extremely uncomfortable. This was also an issue for other travelers in our party. A new type of mattress should be considered.

San Anselmo is a wonderful small hotel set in its own orange gardens at the top of the Aventine hill. It is a peaceful retreat away from the noise of the city but only a short walk to the main ancient ruins, the Tiber and some of Rome's principal piazzas. The park-like Aventine has its own unique attractions, as well as number of restaurants and shops. within easy walking distance. Public transport is also accessible nearby. My room was huge and beautifully appointed with a terrace surrounded by orange trees. Among the hotel's public spaces, many of which open out into the gardens, are an elegant sunny breakfast room where a lavish breakfast is served, a number of small bar areas and a wonderful wood-paneled library. The garden itself contains clusters of benches, tables and chairs. Everything seems beautifully designed to make guests feel welcome, comfortable and exceptionally well attended to. But this atmosphere is also in large part due to the wonderful staff who were always gracious, informative, and ready to help with anything.

Such a lovely location in a quiet, mainly residential area. Breakfast was very good . Staff were very helpful. Dinner at their nearby hotel was lovely in a beautiful setting.

I think European beds are a fair bit firmer than what we're used to!

Poor breakfast. It didn’t bother us much and we were ready to skip it sometimes but for those who expect nice 4* hotel breakfast it might be disappointing

The location is close to the Circo Massimo and the Colosseum, as well as a quiet neighborhood. Another fun fact is that it is located right next to the door where you can look through the famous keyhole to get a view of the Vatican. It also is close to a beautiful park with a full view of Rome from above. The location was a great way to start discovering Rome. I booked the place not having a high expectation apart from the convenient location. Still, not only was the location a perfect fit for touring Rome the hotel itself was very beautiful. Each room is decorated uniquely. We stayed in the 'written room' and had poetry written on the walls. The bathroom was spacious and well decorated, and the room was spacious with big windows for good lighting. I never write a review, but this was an exceptional experience I thought I would leave a recommendation!

We loved out beautifully decorated Standard Double room with a spacious bathroom. We had a nice view of an orange tree out of our window. The service was excellent throughout. The continental breakfast was nice, with some gluten-free options. The bar area of the hotel is very cosy in the evening or during the day. The location was handy for the sightseeing: a 25-minute walk to the Colosseum, and a 10-minute walk to the stop of the Hop-on Hop-off tourist buses. The hotel is quite close to a couple of streets full of restaurants (a 10-15 minute walk). Look out also for a curious (and free!) attraction just around the corner from the hotel - the Aventine Keyhole, where you can take a photo after a bit of queuing.

We struggled to adjust the thermostat in the room, which was set to a very warm +23C. The plumbing next door had noisy pipes - they were very loud whenever someone used the shower in another room, but it is an old building!

Breakfast was fantastic: many food items to choose from and everything was freshly served daily/delicious food! The staff was always very attentive and friendly. We had breakfast in the beautifully appointed garden area/which included orange trees, loaded with orange fruit. The front desk staff greeted us cheerfully every day and helped us with questions we had about touring Rome. They responded promptly to our requests for taxi service. We will not hesitate to stay at this beautiful hotel on our next trip to Rome. We liked the location/ very quiet residential area.

We stayed in the hotel for a week. Our visit started with a complimentary room upgrade, it was amazing! The room was clean, big and very warm. The personal of the hotel are very friendly and always ready to help with every question that you have. The breakfast is pretty good, and the meal is tasty. The location is very silent, without many tourists around. Highly recommend this hotel! We will stay here again for sure in the future.

It was the best room we've ever stayed in. What a great set up with the bedroom, the bath tub, shower, two sinks and even a bidet. It was the set up we would dream about for our own house. We loved the view from the massive bathroom and from the bedroom, we liked to stay in that part of Rome because it has a completely different and yet absolutely charming vibe. Breakfast was lovely too, nothing too fancy but just right. We were never hungry anyway after our late dinners out.

We would like some more natural juices for breakfast and maybe topped up water bottles (or a jug with water) and teas in the room.
