What a great hotel. I booked extra days it was so good. The staff are exceptionally helpful but not intrusive. The whole hotel is clean and tidy. Great swimming pool that has its hours restricted to stop noise at antisocial hours. Lovely breakfast selection again with great staffing. Parking available in a covered garage at a small (8 euro) cost, well worth it in this city location. The town is great filled with history and archaeology sites. The reception staff give great advise on where to eat and visit, even giving a free map of the town. I will be going back next year to further explore the area. It is not far from Pisa and Florence. A great base in Tuscany and so many great places to eat in town.

Nothing could be better.

Despite us being late arrival (late ferry), the lady on reception was so friendly and helpful. The room was delightful, large, with a small balcony overlooking the hills and the swimming pool. We really enjoyed the location, being near to the old town. We had reserved a parking space which was easy to find and covered, safe. The room had everything needed, the bed comfortable. The breakfast was included and was good. The place was made by the friendliness and helpfulness of the receptionist.

Lisa and Jenny were super friendly and helpful, rest of the staff was also very nice and professional - we felt very welcomed. They also prepared for us a breakfast bag as we were checking out very early in the morning. Entire hotel has a lovely Italian character. Great location, quiet area, few minutes walk to Piazza dei Priori. The room was tidy and big enough, a bit dark though as it was facing the corner of the backyard, so we had to put the light on during the day. Beds were comfortable, however the mattresses were squeky. Breakfast was fantastic with great selection of cakes, local specialities , jams and good cappucino. We enjoyed sunbathing and swimming in the pool. The area was clean and well maintained. Must try in Volterra: tagliolini nero with prawns at Alla Vecchia Maniera (restaurant recommended by Lisa) and phenomenal ice cream at L'isola del Gusto Gelateria.

Because of the old character of the building soundproofing isn't the best. We could very clearly hear toilet flushing in another room or people talking/rolling suitcases in the hallway, especially early in the morning,. It woke us up quite few times.

Prior to arrival communication with the hotel was excellent. This included them sending full details for access to the car park as the hotel is located within the Volterra ZTL. The car park is adjacent to the hotel. A friendly welcome on arrival. We were expected and as all paperwork was available so we were in our room within a short period of time. As the hotel was a Convent the rooms have been built within the original nuns cells, with each having the name of a nun on the wall next to the door. A nice touch. We were upgraded to a lovely room overlooking the swimming pool and the Tuscan hills. The room was clean and well equipped, including a safe, a kettle with tea (no coffee?) and a comfy bed. The bathroom was bright and clean and the excellent shower had good pressure and almost instant hot water. Breakfast could not have been better with a wide range of plentiful delights available, including fresh coffee made to order. So much better than from a machine. Location is perfect with the hotel being located on one of the ancient streets into the city. The main square, with its wonderful architecture, is a 10min stroll. All of the hotel staff, without exception, were friendly and helpful. It will definitely be our place of choice to stay when we next visit Volterra.

We cannot think of anything negative about our recent stay.

The hotel offered more than we expected for the price. The room was very clean, the pool deck and common areas were very pleasant and offered rest from travel. The breakfast was delicious with a wide variety of options including many local. The parking was close and convenient. Location was a quick walk to center of town but away from noise/crowds. Rooms were basic but supplied all your needs including a refrigerator.

Nothing.

This was a former convent and it was lovely to see the history of the building hadn't been erased. Rooms were simply furnished, clean and comfortable, we had a little outside area which was wonderful. The pool and terrace were beautiful, there was plenty of seating areas and some fabulous views. The location was perfect and the staff were very welcoming and helpful. I'd return in a flash.

To me, the hotel was perfect.

Very friendly staff. Large comfortable bedroom with an excellent shower and a small terrace overlooking an attractive swimming pool area. Good location, just inside the city walls and a little more than 5 minutes walk to the main Piazza.

Although we had two wardrobes, one was filled with excess bedclothes and there were no drawers in which to store underwear and casual clothes. Car parking was a bit expensive at 15 Euros per day.

A charming hotel in a beautiful historic town. The pool is a great addition in the heat of summer. Breakfast was fine in a lovely courtyard. Staff were very friendly and the off street parking a bonus. Volterra has numerous lovely cafes and restaurants with historic churches and museums. Well worth a visit.

Occasionally during our three day stay there was a bad smell from the sewers. This didn’t last long and would not put us off returning.

- very nice location in short walking distance to Piazza dei Priori (inside the city wall, but easy to access by car) - most rooms are to the back and thus very quite (even though traffic on the street is not heavy anyway) - convenient parking for a good price; one should keep in mind that it takes some time to get out of the city center (from the hotel parking) due to many one-way streets - very friendly and informed staff (also with upfront information on how to access parking + hotel), excellent restaurant recommendations - room size was good, equipment (air condition, kettle) working very well, "real" shower facility (not in a bathtub) - good breakfast options (warm food, bread is toasted on demand, sweet stuff), opportunity to take seats inside or in the patio (good distancing options) - excellent price for location and value => would definitely choose this hotel again for a stay in Volterra

- no fly screens at the windows - space in bathroom is a bit limited (among others by a bidet - would be much better without this), but was still okay for us

The Staff This was our first stay as part of a wider trip in Tuscany. The staff could not have been more helpful. The communication before the stay was great (e.g. booking space in the garage). The Room While smallish was very nice with a small terrace overlooking the countryside and the pool area. The Location This really is the best part of Hotel San Lino. It's within the city walls which means carrying luggage to the hotel is much simpler. Also there is a beautiful church next door to it.

The bathroom was slightly small and the breakfast just ok. It had everything you could need but nothing extra, I think breakfast was included in the cost but I definitely wouldn't pay extra for it.
