This is a beautiful older basic style of traditional Japanese B&B . Family run business and very hospitable mother and son who run the inn. If you are looking for 5 star modern then this is not you , but if you want traditional charm and a more authentic Japanese experience then this you ! It’s very well priced as well . Has an onsite Onsen and breakfast is mainly Japanese style so very healthy. Furthermore My daughter got influenza A they helped us get her to the local Dr, get medication, brought her fresh fruit and hydration drinks , gave us masks , they just go above and beyond. Thank you for your kindness.

Very good service of Bamboo Hill Sasaoka hotel. I catched the last bus to reach Nozawa Onsen at 10:30pm on Dec 22,2023. It was heavy snowing and lost my way when i get off the bus. Fortunately, i am so lucky that a New Zealand guy helped me to find Bamboo Hill hotel. When i reached Bamboo Hill hotel, the son of the owner helped me to carry the luggage to the 1st floor. He spent 45 mins and helped me to check the train and bus schedule to snow monkey park and temple during breakfast. Good and relax to have onsen after snowboarding at night in hotel. It is worth to stay in Bamboo Hill Sasaoka next time.

Breakfast each day was amazing - Japanese style which varied every morning. Fuelled us well for the snow day ahead. The family who runs the property lives on site and is super helpful, including running down to town to help purchase discounted lift passes (bring cash for this). Properly was clean overall.

Shower / bathing times at the properly is only available between 4-9pm. Having arrived at 10pm the first night, we were left to find the nearest public onsen to bathe at (there’s one 100m away). A late check in meant that we were just left our room key at the front counter.

The cleanliness and efficiency of the rooms and staff. The little extras like spare toothbrushes and toothpaste. The amazing breakfasts every morning were excellent for a days start to skiing. The location easy walk to slopes and town. The Japanese tradition and culture is respected and preserved. Can’t wait till I return😀

The cute building, service, location, staff, breakfasts, kitchen facilities available to visitors, and cleanliness.

The property was so close to the slopes and the apres ski. The owners were super friendly and either spoke English or were proficient with google translate. They helped us get discount ski passes, book taxis and there were different treats for our kids at breakfast every day, we honestly felt looked after like family.

The communal bathroom areas were a little cold but the rooms were very warm. The Onsen was nice but there were no other showers.

The stay was wonderful with a very well thought out design that allowed my family to come and go in a relaxing environment, but also offered some nice amenities for when we just wanted to relax. The warming fireplace in the lobby was a gret touch, and the staff were very helpful when needed.

I liked the simplicity of the breakfast, with a very good main morning meal and additional breads and drinks, but I think a slightly more buffet style would have been a better option.

Perfect location half way between main gondola and the village - couple of hundred metres from each. traditional ryokan - shared toilets on bedroom floor, onsen downstairs (only open in evenings). Breakfast was fantastic - mostly japanese in style, and different every day. Staff dont speak english but were absolutely lovely, very helpful and accommodating. Buy your lift passes (cash only) through them - cheaper. They will also give you vouchers for ski gear hire, the spa centre and private onsen centre around town. Helpful with restaurant bookings. Gave us a lift to the bus station on our last day. Good drying room with external entrance for all the ski gear. A simple ryokan, family run, but my favourite place we have stayed in Japan. My boys, pre-teens, declared it their favorite too.

Nothing. Loved it.

Our host was super friendly, and very accommodating, she bent over backwards to make our stay memorable. The breakfasts were amazing - lots of food, very interesting and varied. Our host cooked us a different Japanese style breakfast each day and it was lovely. Our host was provided us with vouchers for discounts on the mountain and to access the Asagama - no - yo onsen. The onsen at Bamboo-Hill was lovely, and very therapeutic after a long day skiing. Body wash, shampoo and conditioner were provided plus shower caps, hair brushes and razors. Towels were also provided for the onsen. Our host kindly kept beer glasses in the fridge for us for our apre-ski refreshments and gave us Japanese snacks and treats to go with out drinks. There is a vending machine onsite. The accommodation was easy to find and was super clean and tidy. Host provided slippers for indoor wear. There is a drying room for skis and clothing.

One of our beds was a bit uncomfortable, which we only discovered on our last day, being due to a bed-leg having fallen off. (We would have raised this with our host, but we missed her on the day that we checked out), and once we set the leg back into position that fixed the bed comfort. It was not a big deal at all.

If you coming with a car, this is a good spot for you! Big parking lot right below the property which is convenient ! Breakfast was simple and good. They have a TV set up showing all the stats about the mountain which is extremely helpful. Discounted tickets are available, but you must book it a day in advance ! The location was about a 5-7 minutes walk up to the main Nagasaka Gondola! Decent sized Dry room and an area to wax your own equipment if need be. PS: one night i was walking home and it was snowing alot ! I was worried that my car would be covered in snow the next morning ....When i opened the window to look at the car in the morning, the owner was already removing the snow off my car without me even asking him !!

The highlights for me are the owner (she is very friendly, hospitable and helpful) and the property’s onsen (wonderful after skiing). It is a comfortable and inviting place and I always enjoyed the Western / Japanese breakfast which changed everyday.

I was happy using the shared bathroom facilities but recognise that some will not. The room was warm but the heater a little noisy though it didn’t stop me sleeping well.
