The hotel was built ends of the 70s and still has the style of those times, which is no bad at all. We had the topfloor twin room with a (not to deep) balcony and had an amazing view over the whitesanded Shirahama Beach, which is the main attraction of the hotel. The hotel also has an onsen with views over the beach too. We did not use it tho. We also had dinner at the hotel as it's mostly the only option to eat, as there is not much else around the place. But the dinner was really great: I had a Sashimi/Tendon set and my partner had a delicious steak set. Also there is a shuttle service to and from the Shimoda train station.

The hotel is on the older side but with lots of charm, like with any other ryokan hotels.

Good/secluded location. Beautiful views. All rooms have a beach view. Quite and peaceful. The ocean sounds from you balcony is soothing. Cheap accommodation for the location.

There was the occasional smelly hallway. I also wish they would do a little pest control. There was the frequent spiders, big spider webs, and the occasional wasp/wasp nest.

Great location literally right by the beach and really nice looking out to the sea. Was very average weather the first two days so made it nice having a view. Handy having the shuttle into town a couple of times in the morning, but bear in mind it’s not super regular. Overall, it’s a little bit tired but the location, room size and beach makes up for it.

The food at the restaurants is pretty over priced for what you get compared to other places, I’d recommend trying other food places in Shirahama. As mentioned above, the property is a little dated but still a great place to stay!

Room and location were all very good. Having a private beach is a big plus.

Going down to the beach with small kids was little though, they can improve the way and ladders little bit more. Also, we asked for microwave oven to warm up our food but hotel reception said they did not have any. It would be good if they can place a microwave for general hotel guests usage.

Friendly staff, very good location. Property is old, but it didn’t bother us cause we were already expecting it after reading reviews. Our room was very clean, beautiful ocean view.

Onsen has a nice view, but only one hot bath. No sauna, no cold bath, you have to bring amenities (shower cap, hair brush) from your own room. We didn’t book our stay with meals included, but decided to have dinner at the Hotel restaurant, which turned out to be quite expensive in the context.

I loved that it was a beachfront property, and that all of the rooms(It seems so) had an ocean view. We could sleep and wake up to the sound of the waves, and we could smell the ocean. It was a wonderful feeling! It was nice to take a walk by the beach, or soak your feet in the clear water (Just be careful as the beach is rocky).The Japanese part of the breakfast buffet was also delicious!

The hotel needs some updating- especially the bathroom. A lot of the metal parts in the bathroom like the vents, drains, and the exhaust fan cover in the bath tub area were rusty and looks dirty. The whole room is old and looks clean, but carpets were dusty and made us sneeze a lot.

The service was excellent. I got there early Saturday morning to enjoy the beach. I asked if I could have breakfast because I arrived around 0720. They assisted me in getting breakfast at 0900 because I didn't schedule breakfast on Saturday morning. The room was great. I enjoyed the whole weekend.

as the other reviews have said, once you adjust your expectations to the fact that it's not a brand new hotel, you realize that it's a perfectly wonderful stay. The rooms are spacious, clean and have everything you could need. I do wish that their free shuttle ran more often (or on demand) so one could explore Shimoda well.

Nothing to do with the hotel but I left my cosmetics purse at public hot spring bath and returned in 5 minutes but it's gone. Could not find anywhere including lost and found.

The ocean views from the room were breathtaking. Very convenient location, just a 15 minute bus ride to town, or a 10 minute walk to Lawson or 7-11.

The bathroom is a little outdated. Clean but outdated.
