The hostel was really close to everything, specially to the old Kyoto. The zone was peacefull and it has a lot of stores for late snacks or similar. The metro was also really close by. About the facilities it was nice to sleep on a futon and be in a traditional tatami room. Of course, the price was really good and my opinion you´re geeting what you´re paying. For me It was a nice experience but I would not repeat the hotel if I come back to Kyoto.
I notice that the room needed some deep cleaning (roftop and upper part of the walls) but for me it was not a big deal. It was lacking some fresh air at some moment (we open our door to fix it). The main area (where the recepcionist would be, because there isn´t one) had many items that needed to be removed from there to avoid generatin this "lack of order". You can heard the other guest (is an old house!) but we had luck and everyone respected the silent hours ;)

It was a beautiful traditional Japanese home, such a great experience especially if it’s your first time visiting Japan/Kyoto.
The walls are pretty thin so you can hear the people in the other rooms but honestly for the price and the experience of staying in a 100 year old Japanese home, it really didn’t bother us at all. Also, everyone was very respectful and stayed relatively quiet as per signs to respect within the hostel.

Gorgeous traditional house in a great location in Kyoto. There was self-check in but staff were helpful with any issues I had. Shower and toilets were really clean, with clothes washing facilities.
Just a note for individuals with mobility issues- the stairs are very steep and are difficult to bring luggage up and down. Not necessarily something the owners can do about as the house is authentic and original but just bear this in mind before booking.

I was worried about noise from other guests based on previous reviews, but everything was fine and it was quiet. This is accommodation in the original Japanese style, which we liked very much. The accommodation is within walking distance of the historic center. This is contactless accommodation, the accommodation operator was online at any time. The shower and toilet are on the lower floor, where you have to go down steep and creaky stairs.

It was great seeing an authentic machiya from the inside rather than from the street. It was even better to stay in one for two weeks. The guest house was beautiful and really took me back in time. It looked full of history - Kyoto of old. I loved the black wood and the concrete floor in the reception and kitchen area, the steep stairs, the tatami, and the creaking floorboards. So much better than a hotel. Shower was clean and hot. The guest house is in a perfect location in a very traditional, quiet, local shopping arcade. The subway station is pretty much next door and it is convenient for many bus routes. It is also walking distance to Gion, Nishiki Market, Heian Shrine, Chion-in and Yasaka Shrine, Nanzen-ji, Kawaramachi, etc. I walked to Kinkaku-ji from the guest house :-) There are also many lovely cafes and restaurants within a two-minute walk.
All good.

The guesthouse was 3 minutes away from Higasiyama metro station and Gion temple was also at walkable distance. It's pretty convinient and located in an old block. The atmosphere of the house was nice and could really enjoy the japanese Kotatsu in public area.
The toilet was outside of the main building. It's frustrating to use when the weather was too cold.

excellent location…. lots of restaurants and subway stations nearby, and walkable to many tourist sites…
stairs to upper rooms are steep, but there are not many to climb. if you’ve got bulky bags, it will not be fun. also, all bathroom facilities are on the lower floor…

Amazing location and beautiful space. Absolutely great value for money, it's definitely not luxury, but for the price it's incredible. I'd definitely stay there again!

Excellent location, great price. The dorm room has only two beds. Everything is clean. The old style of the house is very cosy and attractive. The host let me check a few hours earlier than the stated time.

The room and location were exceptional.
My only complaint was that there was literally no staff ever present during our three-day stay. We checked ourselves in by finding a key in a box outside. It was fine but could be a problem if you needed anything.
