Very beautiful hostel concept with nice furniture and architectural intentions. it was in a cute neighborhood and good location! the cafe was also very nice.
I didn’t know or realize there was no actual window that can open properly until I arrived in the room. Additionally, there was a small incident where a man staying at the hostel opened the women’s bathroom door to complain about the noise. Women’s spaces have to be more protected and we should feel safe. We were not fully dressed when he opened the door.

I had an exceptional stay at Niniroom. I stayed in a private room. The hotel is very well maintained and it's every clean. It's just a little bit away from the main attractions, but still walking distance from them, which I loved because it meant not to be sucked in the craziness of Kyoto's over-tourism. The cafe is cozy and perfect for work, they also have a dedicated co-working area in the back. The staff speaks perfect English, it's very helpful and made my stay fantastic.
It's a pity that they don't offer a discount for the hotel's guest. I would have had breakfast (and perhaps even lunch) there everyday if they did.

We travel for long periods of time, so this review is based on our two-week stay at this hostel and might consider aspects that would be less relevant if you are staying just a couple of days. As for the room, it varies since each is different. Ours was small with almost no window, but it was well-furnished, creating a cozy atmosphere. We managed to store our empty backpacks underneath the bed, which freed up space. The room also had a desk and a chair, perfect for virtual meetings. The shared bathrooms were clean, well-maintained, and thoughtfully equipped. Additionally, there was a laundry and dryer on each floor, which was very convenient for a longer stay. The café area is open 24 hours, so even after it closes for the day, you can still use the space to work, chat, or have something to eat, which was a nice bonus. There are plenty of convenience stores and supermarkets around, perfect for an easy meal 'at home.' The shared kitchen is small, so it’s best for quick, simple meals, and there are shared fridges on all floors. While the café is great for working, it can get noisy during the day since it’s open to the public, which adds to the lively atmosphere. Plus, you can always take a break and grab a meal. The neighborhood is quiet yet lively, with plenty of temples, restaurants, and a train station nearby, making it easy to get anywhere. It was always nice to walk back home after a busy day, as the area has a welcoming and peaceful vibe. The walk along the nearby river, leading to some of the most popular tourist spots, was especially pleasant.
A few things we didn’t particularly love, though they didn’t affect our overall stay which was great. If you're on floor 2 (or floor 3, if you consider the ground floor as floor 1), the bathrooms are female-only, meaning guys need to walk down a floor for the mixed-gender bathroom. The shoe policy could be a bit more practical: you're asked to wear hostel-provided slide sandals in the room areas, but you end up walking through areas where you’ve already worn your shoes, especially on the stairs (when changing shoes or heading to the mixed-gender bathroom). This makes the system feel a bit ineffective. The kitchen is quite small—about 1x2 meters. It’s fine for quick cooking, but when someone takes up space for an extended period, it can make things difficult for others.

Super friendly staff. Great location, structure was clean and cozy. Comfortable and well served common area, available breakfast and lunch. They have bicycle for rent too.
It could be better organized the toilette system on the floors: on the 3rd it's only for women but the second it's mixed. So sometimes on the second floor the toilets are all occupied also by girls but i can't go on the 3rd floor toilet🤔 I think it makes more sense to have one for girls and another for men at this point.

Such a beautiful hostel! I was amazed by the beautiful facilities and the warm welcome from the staff. Everyone is very nice, helpful and easy to talk to. In the morning there is a very tasty breakfast with fluffy bread until 10:00, I can only recommend it. The rooms are very nicely furnished, I felt very comfortable in my shared room and met nice other backpackers. You can work wonderfully in the common room downstairs, which is also a cafe during the day, perfect for a workation. There is also very good coffee and good drinks here. You can rent bikes very cheaply to cycle around Kyoto, there are free umbrellas and also the possibility to wash and dry laundry. I was very happy with my stay there and was reluctant to leave. Overall, highly recommended, especially for couples or people who travel as a couple or have to do some work at the same time.

Great staff, very clean and a good atmosphere to relax. A little far from hubs like Gion and the Shijo area but there's a train about a 8min walk away that can get you there quickly. Usually in the mornings I would walk along the Kamogawa river to the busier areas and take the train back in the evening when it was dark and my legs were tired. Beds were very comfortable and the curtain provided great privacy.
The staff kept the dorm room door open for a few hours when cleaning during the day, so be careful to lock away valuables. A locker is provided.

If you are planning to visit the East side of Kyoto such as Kiyomizu-dera, Gion, Hieizan, Philosopher's Path, Imperial Garden, Kibune or Potonco Alley, this place is the best place to stay as it is a walking distance from Keihan Line which is connected to all of these places. The dorm's capsule is comfortable to stay in.
No escalators and my room is at 2F. Me and some other guest had to carry our heavy luggage to that floor by stairs. No individual fans in each capsule slot. Only one aircond in the room.

This hostel in Kyoto offers a comfortable and clean space for your stay. The bathrooms and shower areas are very well-maintained, and the fully equipped kitchen facilities are impressive and convenient. The 24-hour coffee lounge is not only beautifully designed but also has a great atmosphere, perfect for relaxing or socializing. Its location is ideal, with easy walking access to several enchanting attractions such as Heian Shrine, the Philosopher’s Path, and Shimogamo Shrine. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Kyoto!

Can’t say enough good things about this place tbh. Great location, walking distance to a lot of attractions and the subway. Comfortable rooms with good size beds, space to store your things under the bed, and lockers for your valuables. Bathrooms are super clean and the showers are very nice. The downstairs area is open 24/7 to work, hangout or have dinner which is really nice to not have a “curfew” for public areas. I very much enjoyed this hostel and would absolutely stay again

The staff were really friendly and helpful. The room was exactly as per the photos posted. The hostel was very clean and amenities like common mini fridges, washer, dryer, hair dryer, rental towels etc were readily available at the common areas of the level i stayed at. Shower facilities were very clean and water pressure was amazing. The hostel itself also has a cafe at the 1st storey and i was able to purchase some cookies and financiers for snacks. Within 5-8min walking distance to Lawson and 7-11 as well as Jingu-marumatachi station.
This may not be the hostel's fault but the sound and heat insulation of the building is not quite adequate. Any random loud or high pitched sound is easily transmissible between rooms. The rooms get extremely cold at night in November and you can feel the temperature of the building dipping with the external temperature. But that being said, the blankets provided were incredibly good at keeping me warm so kudos to the hostel for that. It's further away from central Kyoto so be prepared to take an approx 30min bus ride from Kyoto Station. At night, the road facing the Kyoto Uni hospital is very dark and quiet (almost no one and no cars) and although it is Japan, it can still feel slightly creepy walking back to the hostel alone at night as a solo female traveller.
