Hotel Heian No Mori

The Japanese room. Nice sitting area. Close to public transportation and philosophers path

Bathroom and shower pretty small although adequate. No coffee in room or available after breakfast Not all staff speak english- however they were ALL very helpful and made the stay more authentic.

Very clean and not too small rooms. Sento was nice too.

Reception staff was not friendly in English but ok in Japanese.

The location is wonderful and the hotel has a nice traditional ambiance. Many temples and shrines are nearby. It is also near to Kyoto University. The hotel staff are friendly and courteous. The rooms are clean and have the necessary amenities.

There were two big issues I faced during my stay in the hotel; otherwise, it could have been a great stay. 1. The Wi-Fi was terribly slow in the room, while it was perfect in the lobby. I guess there are not sufficient routers/Wi-Fi extenders all across the hotel. IMO, this issue could be easily fixed. 2. My room was on the 7th floor, facing the main road. The soundproofing of the windows was non-existent. It was nearly as noisy as the nearby road. This is a real deal breaker.

The room was big.

Bad smell. Dusty and moldy ventilation. Old carpets and linen. I have asked the staff to clean the bathroom ventilation shaft and it was done immediately. But regardless of the responsiveness, I wouldn't stay here again because of the bad air.

The room was clean, large and comfortable.

The area is 'deadsville' - no bars, shops or bustle

Hotel actually is in an easy to access location, within walking distance of Nanzenji Temple

Hotel itself like lobby and reception seemed clean, but there was something off about the room. Bathroom seemed clean. But the room had a odd smell to it, as if it had never been ventilated. There is no temperature control. Luckily I stayed in Autumn so it was warm inside, but it must get really hot in summer. There is definetely an issue with the ventilation, I started getting a cough. Okay, but definetely dont stay if you have asthma, or might be sensitive to dust. They need to clean their rooms properly. Reception staff could have been a bit more polite.
