We love the room with the private stone garden and view of the exterior garden. The room was beautiful. Great way to experience staying in a Ryokan. The breakfast was also a fantastic way to experience Japanese culture. We asked for no pork and no alcohol meal and they easily accomodate that. There was also Yukata and slippers that we could use and walk around the premises. The bathroom even had facial products for men as well as women. Apart from the hairdryer, there was also an electric hairbrush. It is also closed to Philosopher's Path and you can walk along it that leads to Gingkakuji Temple.
The only negative thing was the location. There is no subway but only buses. So you can't travel on the bus with big suitcases.

The room with the garden view was absolutely amazing. The bathroom felt luxurious and the rooftop bath that you could book as extra was well worth the small additional fee. This was a perfect place to rest after running around in Tokyo for a week.
I both liked and didn't like the location since, yes it was perfect for a restful stay, but I also wanted to sightsee Kyoto and for those locations that I wanted to see it was difficult to navigate from the ryokan without a taxi. (Then again I think Kyoto in general is kinda hard to navigate without a taxi.)

We loved our stay! The room was so nice with tatami flooring and traditional aesthetics. The bathroom was great too! The location was as expected - quieter and away from the central bits of Kyoto, but there are various things to do nearby the hotel, and it was easy to get to with bus. The housekeeping team were very friendly! The male staff member on site who helped us with check-in and check-out was super polite and helpful! Him and the other male staff member also helped us send our luggage to the next city we’re staying in 😊
Their restaurant wasn’t open on Wednesday, so we couldn’t book breakfast for that morning. We weren’t aware of this when we made the booking, but luckily we stayed for 2 nights, so we booked breakfast for Thursday morning instead! The private onsen was a really lovey experience too, but I didn’t realize you had to pay a small fee for this. Regardless, we loved our stay here!

Calm area. Comfortable beds. Close to grocery store. Close to museums. Pictures on Booking do not do the hotel justice. Note: we booked with breakfast but they could not facilitate gluten free options, something we got told once arriving. We did not get our money back and the chef could not provide us with any breakfast so if you have gluten intolerance book without breakfast and make your own. This is the main drawback with the hotel, but if this is not an issue for you then the hotel is terrific.
They do not have bicycles to lend, you have to rent downtown. This is something you'd like to do since cycling in Kyoto is really handy.

We had a lovely stay at Kande. Check in was easy. Costs were explained prior to booking (e.g. to use the onsen) and were consistent when. We got there. The room was comfortable and the sleeping accomodations about what we expected. The garden was beautiful. We had breakfast one morning and it was DELICIOUS/a great experience. The ryokan was convenient to a couple of bus lines so we got around easily.
My husband is a coffee drinker and so would walk down the street for coffee in the morning. Our room was bright in the mornings, which was pretty but meant our kiddo woke up early.

The room was larger than a lot of rooms in other hotels in Japan. Everything was perfectly clean and well maintained. The room was comfortable with good AC and lighting. The bathroom was excellent, clean and the toilet was especially nice. The room and bathroom are also very well stocked and refreshed every day if you use the sign requesting the room be made up each day. The staff were polite and professional, with the female receptionist speaking perfectly fluent English. The hot tub was worth the extra cost for one night, and the garden is pretty. The location is excellent being in a quiet area of Kyoto, with two bus stops nearby, so you usually have multiple routes you can take to get to places. It's also near the Philosopher's Path which was handy. The free coffee provided each day was also excellent.
The pillow was too soft, so your head sinks right through it. Also the outdoor area of the hot tubs have some cobwebs above it that should be cleaned up.

It's extremely beautiful, and as Japanese as it gets (in my Western eyes). I could stay in the room all day and stare at the little features around and the amazing garden of the property. We also tried a Japanese breakfast, and it was great.
When we arrived, it was pouring rain, and as we entered the room, there was a leak from the ceiling. I expect that the room is checked before the check-in and the leak was something impossible to miss. We were given another room and told that we could stay in it for the rest of our stay, but next morning on quite a short notice we were told that we need to move to our original room as they fixed the leak.

Our stay at KANADE was amazing! The hotel is located near less visited shrines and the Philosopher’s trail, the area was less busy and quiet, but easy to access by bus. The room was big and had a great view to their of their garden. The hotel offers all the amenities you need for a comfortable stay. The traditional breakfast was the highlight of our stay, the food was delicious!
The only thing that the hotel needs to work on is adding some sort of soundproof to their rooms, you could hear anything that happens in their hallway. Also it didn’t help that there was a family staying near our room whose baby didn’t stop crying for a while. Of course, this is not the hotel’s fault, but we hear the crying loud and clear. This issue won’t deter us to stay at the hotel again, we will definitely come back.

Away from the tourists attractions and nice neighborhood. But the place has stores nearby and walking distance to the convenient busses and historic places. The hot bath under the night sky was soo nice. (1000Y extra to reserve for one hour.) The dinner was nice and we enjoyed the five course Kaiden cooking.
In a sense, the facility was a little modern and not the typical Ryokan as I expected. I.e. you could walk into the ryokan with your shoes on. But having 80% of the guests being international tourists, it is expected. Still a very wonderful place to stay!!

I enjoyed the amenities and cleanliness of the rooms. The owner was wonderful and flexible with our situation. Beautiful ryokan with a very lovely garden. Great housekeeping.
A bit limited in services provided to guests based on the price. Breakfast should be included at least in the price rather than having to pay the day prior to eating. The futons were difficult to get used to and a bit uncomfortable but that will depend on your preferences. Not good if you have back or neck problems.
