Truly a 5-star experience with a beautiful facility and friendly staff. My husband and I stayed here for 1 night and it was the most romantic night on our 2 week honeymoon trip. The room was immaculate with a phenomenal view of the private garden. Breakfast was a traditional Japanese breakfast thoughtfully served. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city or chaotic vacation schedules.

It was a bit pricey and there was no onsen or spa services available. This was also not located near many restaurants that were open late, so be sure to plan out your meals.

The staff was exceptionally nice. The room very comfortable with a view over the beautiful Japanese garden. It has a private bathroom and the room is very well equipped. The Japanese breakfast and dinner were both lovely and it was very interesting to try the different traditional foods. If you are not a big fan of fish eggs or sea urchin, please tell them that you would like to skip the first course. The restaurant is facing the garden and it is a treat eating here. Some ryokans can be quite cold in the winter. This was not the case here - we visited in January and it was comfortable and warm.

Staff were extremely helpful and friendly, despite the language barrier. They always tried their best to make every aspect of our stay as pleasant as possible. The Luxury Spa Suite was amazing! Very spacious and the huge onsen was out of this world. We were traveling as a party of six and we got to dine in different private dining rooms in the property and each of them face a large and beautiful garden. The food served at breakfast and dinner was also superbly crafted and provided an amazing culinary experience for my family and I. I would HIGHLY recommend this Ryokan for anyone visiting Kyoto.

The location is a little detached from the main attractions in Kyoto, apart from Nanzen-ji and Heian-jingu that are close by. We traveled to the city by taxi most times but there is an underground train station nearby (5 mins walk).

It's a high-end place but it was worth every penny. Everything about it was beautiful and uplifting. The breakfast was absolutely incredible. We felt cared for at all stages. All the staff took pride in the place and in making out stay comfortable and memorable. It was a delight to come home to the room at the end of a busy day sightseeing and I slept really well.

Nothing! We didn't want to leave.

Our rooms were overlooking the beautiful and tranquil gardens. The whole property exuded serenity and luxury. The staff were absolutely superb. We were able to enjoy our room with the wide range of beverages. The dinner was absolutely delectable. Even my teenage kids tasted everything. Not only were the dishes well presented, the food was heavenly. It was also a very short pleasant walk to nearby temples.

I wished I could have stayed longer and booked the spa suite.

Picturesque from the first day we arrived, with snow falling in the courtyard garden outside our room. Traditional style quarters brought to the modern day with newly renovated bathroom and facilities made for a very comfortable stay. Memorable dining experience at the ryokan for breakfast and dinner in front of the traditional garden. Really enjoyed walking around the neighbourhood as well. Exceptional service even by Japanese standards.

Slightly out of the way of the metro and public transportation to the central shopping and food areas. Lack of food around the area.

The Ryokan is located at walking distance from the city center. It is a boutique hotel where customers are valued and taken care of. The staff can speak English well and is responsive to any demand. it feels you are in the countryside in the middle of Kyoto… a rare gem !

Very difficult (and expensive) to book a taxi during the busy season. The property should strike a deal with a local taxi company as a service to clients.

Wow, what unbelievable stay we just had at this beautiful place, I would highly recommend anyone wanting to zen out for a wee while which i must say was needed after a few busy days in Gion this is the perfect place for that.

Nothing, I thought we me be a little out of the way but the Taxi into Gion was 10 minutes and only about $10 USD.

Undeniably the best location in Kyoto, which is one of the most serene and beautiful places in the world. Simply put, this is literally one of the most beautiful places you can stay on the planet. The staff is absolutely lovely, and a special thank you to Okita-san, who kindly helped me book reservations at nearby restaurants.

I wish I never had to leave.

A quiet luxury in Kyoto. Gorgeous rooms and even more beautiful garden. Recommend the lunch so you can enjoy the garden views. Highly recommend. The location is different and would recommend mapping out your Kyoto activities accordingly. We split our Kyoto stay between here and Gion so it was perfect.
