About the breakfast: Must get. This accommodation cooks very fresh and simple meals for breakfast that left us full every morning. It was usually with a salad, a little yogurt, their house-made bagels/pastries and a soup or light dish to start the day. They sell the same pastries during regular business hours and it's lovely to have fresh. About the room: clean, quaint and simple room. Theres a microwave in the hallway but we ended up never using it. The front reception closes at 8pm so late check-ins definitely need to message them ahead of time to coordinate. About the location: very close to Gion district and around the corner from Men-Ya Inoichi michelin bib ramen (two locations)

Pillows could have been better - I prefer the big fluffy / gel (western) type ones

Delicious breakfast: homemade bagels, home-cured bacon, vegetable soup, salads, yogurt and fruit, fruit juice, tea or coffee. Excellent start to the day. If you want to stay in an old part of the city, not in a faceless chain hotel, this is a great option. There is a convenience store and a supermarket a few minutes' walk from the inn. The bus stops are nearby and you're a few minutes from the Keihan train line too.

Nothing. There are stairs though, so if you have mobility issues you might want to request a lower floor. This was our second stay, and I would stay there the next time I visit, too.

This gorgeous property is family run and they take such good care of you. The breakfast was amazing for around $12 (they run a bakery from the kitchen downstairs) and the rooms feel in keeping with the area. Everything was spotlessly tidy. It’s about a 10 minute walk to the main shopping strip, river & stations. The metro stations are easy to navigate unlike Tokyo. Lots of places to eat locally and it’s fun checking out the tiny streets. There is a 7/11 and convenience store close by for milk, tea etc.

The whole place is rather small, and the bathrooms are teeny tiny, so if you are a person that needs extra space, this isn’t for you. We found it not a problem as we were out exploring during the day and home in the evening just to sleep.

The room was comfortable and helped us unwind after long days exploring Kyoto. It's not located super close to the subway, but it is within walking distance, and it's also close to some bus stops. It is fairly close to the Nishiki market area, which is cool to explore. Also like previous reviews, I love the aroma in the mornings - this is a hotel but also has a restaurant that bakes bread daily for purchase. And lastly, the staff is so nice! I wish I had gotten her name, but the woman who we primarily talked to at the front desk was so nice and helpful - such as accommodating a late check in and helping us ship our luggage to our next destination.

The bathroom was very tight and also required a step up from the room floor, which was a bit of a hazard. There aren't elevators here, which didn't bother us, but could be problematic for some.

This is really a gem right in the middle of Kyoto. The owner is absolutely lovely, super helpful and kind. You can reach the hotel easily from the main station by taxi (10 min) or even by foot (20 min) or by bus. The room we had was quite big for Japan standards, and very cosy. There is a kettle in the room, which is nice. The location is just perfect and it's worth staying here just for this. You can walk to Gion and Kiyomizu temple. There are buses to everywhere, super easy, and the station is close by. There are a lot of restaurants around as well, but most of them will be a few minutes walking away. Also, the owner runs her own bakery and I would definitely recommend trying her breads - the Melonpan & the wholegrain bagel were to die for!

There are a few flights of stairs to go to the rooms, so be prepared in case it's difficult for you. The bathroom in the room was very small, but not a big problem. There wasn't much space to put our clothes down.

I cannot praise this guest house enough, it has a European feel about it, there is no shoes off at the front door, no tatami mats, It is a family run guest house and you are made to feel welcome as soon as you walk through the door, we pre ordered our breakfast before we went to Japan expecting some cereals or toast just the basics but what we received was a five course meal starting with a bit of fruit then soup (which changed every day) with a roll which comes with a choice of fillings followed by your main breakfast, a tea or coffee and a small desert, it really set us up for a day of sight seeing, the rooms were spotless and well presented and my son and I cannot wait to go back to this guest house next year

this was a really cute bed and breakfast style inn located in a residential neighborhood. the first floor is a cafe/restaurant serving home cooked brunch meals and pastries to go (get the bagels!!!!!). staff were super kind and hospitable. the rooms were cozy and minimally furnished. stairs only, no elevator. bathroom is small but manageable. the location is around 20 min walking to attractions like gion or nishiki market. however there are definitely restaurants and convenience stores just a few blocks away, as well as public transit access. overall this is a great place to stay, especially for small groups (1-2) who prefer a quiet environment and don’t mind doing a bit of walking to get to places. it was very different from our stay in large hotels in other Japanese cities and felt a little more welcoming, like staying in someone’s home.

Gorgeous we absolutely loved it. The couple who run it are amazing. Beautiful kind people & they make a delicious breakfast. Our room was spacious & had everything we needed, plus plenty of fresh towels. The bathroom was small but functional. It’s within 15min walk to main shopping area but there are so many places to enjoy all along the walk there. We had three nights but wished we stayed longer, we loved Kyoto & so happy we chose this place for our stay. The host even carried my suitcase up the stairs on arrival & provided an early check in. And on departure she organised a taxi for us, walked us to the taxi & put my bag in the taxi! She goes above & beyond, so incredible.

Great location, 10 minutes from Kyoto station. Delicious breakfast. Welcoming staff, who speak English.

Four floors with no elevator so not suitable for anyone with mobility issues.

Where do I begin? This property is utterly charming. The owners are a family of true values. They are super friendly and make your stay so special. The food that we were served was the best that we have eaten in our 3 weeks of traveling in Japan. As well as being very tasty they were keen to help you understand what we were eating and traditions behind it. It is just opposite the ferry terminal. Once the tourists had left the island we could wander the streets in peace and quiet and see the shrine beautifully lit at night. We would highly recommend staying g the night here rather than a day trip from Hiroshima.
