Ryokan's we were lead to believe are all about the service. They store your shoes for you, provide tea on arrival, and are incredibly courteous throughout the whole process. The room was nice and larger than other ones we had, and it was beautiful throughout the whole ryokan. The location -- right next to Gion, is superb.

It's a little bit less traditional (normal beds, not floor beds). The "service" aspect, for the price, felt underwhelming -- a couple times they weren't present and had to leave shoes in awkward places or wait while they fetched our shoes. The place closes at midnight/12AM -- so if you want to stay out late you're a bit limited. It was hard to communicate pre-booking about whether dinner was included (extra fee), but was told it was unavailable after some time. Similar, we asked if they could arrange a Maiko (something they adverise), but got told after a couple weeks that it wasn't possible.

The vibes of the hotel is unimaginable, the experience of authentic Japanese architect and style was worth it. not to mention the room came with Japanese style breakfast. we have informed the hotel before hand that we need Muslim friendly option and they have delivered to our expectation. The location is perfect, walking distance to major attraction and there is nearby metro station. Room size is good.

Traditional dinner was amazing experience. Breakfast as well. Everyone was so gracious and thoughtful. Truly appreciated the thoughtful details. Really enjoyed the onsen (hot bath). Even had a private onsen in our room for my family members who were not comfortable with the japanese traditional style.

Nothing - they even had umbrellas to loan us for the rain and items we may have forgotten. So thoughtful.

From welcome to departure this Ryokan was all we wanted, hoped for and looked for. I enjoyed the public onsen twice, on my own! And the staff located one of travel documents we had left under a pile of brochures in the room. We'd have been in difficulty without it. The location is brilliant too, just a couple of minutes to charming streets. Loved it

Authentic traditional old style feeling throughout the accommodation. Very friendly staff.

For the price the experience was a little..bland? Also short notice about a temporary closing of the ryokan what resulted in having to check out at 10am with no possibility of leaving the luggage somewhere. Also I’ve read a sign that the ryokans can’t call taxis for guests, what i don’t understand.

The room was spacious, and having a private bath in the room is an upgrade to my previous ryokan experiences. Although it’s on a very busy street, it was very quiet. The ofuro was lovely. The meal plan (dinner and breakfast) offered delicious traditional meals. And the staff was absolutely wonderful.

This ryokan has perfect location in Kyoto, it is in the middle of Gion, provides very close access to many temples and tourist attractions, easy access to busses and subway. Experience is genuine Japanese - rooms with futons, yakutas, Japanese dinner served in your room, even the breakfast and the breakfast room has been very traditional.

There was nothing we did not like

The comfort of futon, the smell of tatami, the seating area to enjoy the tea.

The futon was kept too fast, when we returned from breakfast. My spouse mentioned he actually wanted to continue to sleep on the futon till check out:)

The serenity

We paid a fair amount extra to enjoy the Kaiseki in our room. The food was good, and beautifully presented, but sadly we felt a bit rushed. Both between courses and at the end. There was no waiting for all 3 of us to finish what was on our plates before the next course was brought through and plates cleared. We felt we needed to gulp down the last of the sake so that what was still in the container wouldn’t be taken away.

Very traditional Ryokan, felt we had a very authentic experience. Slept on futon. The onsen was lovely and they had nice products that you could use in the shower. The breakfast was very good. Staff were very helpful. Excellent location in relation to the various sights in Gion.
