The design of the room is excellent. The room is big. Bed is comfortable. There is safety deposit box in the room. Location is ok (very close to yasaka and kiyomizu dera), but I warn you there aren't a lot of restaurants around (there are many more in downtown). No metro around, but there are a lot of great bus lines.

The room was cold. You do get an air-condition with heat function, but the problem is showers and bathrooms are hard to warm. We were there at the end of November and it was freezing at times. That is probably the biggest complaint. The location was very good, near all historic tourist attractions, but I still think downtown closer to river is better. In that case you ate 15 min walking distance to where you are, but a lot more affordable restaurants. Also room was cleaned only once during our stay, and we had to vacate the room form 10am.to 5pm because of it. But all things considered very nice accommodation. Would definitely recommend.

Truly one of the best hotels in all of Kyoto. I have been visiting Kyoto for over 5 years now and without a doubt this is the best hotel I have ever stayed in. The location is perfect for anyone visiting Kyoto for the first time as it is located to some of the best spots including Yasaka Shrine, Hanamikojidori and Kiyomizu-dera. The staff were incredible and accommodating at all times and the rooms themselves are huge by standards in Japan with comfy beds and a large tatami area. I cannot recommend this hotel enough!

Stayed for one night in a standard twin room - which had small seating area with TV screen, and a separate tatami seating area with coffee table. Everything was clean, comfortable, modern with traditional touch decor, and spacious! (not always common for Japanese hotels). There are 24/7 supermarket and Combini just 5 min walk from the hotel, and several izakaya also equally close-by - so really, nothing was missing. Location is ideal if you want to stay around in the popular "East" side of Kyoto, but without the hoard of tourists at your doorstep.

Not a complaint - but the nearest subway station is about 10 min by foot so you might want to keep your suitcase elsewhere for going around.

Located in a quiet area, a short walk to most of the attractions in Gion. Bus stop located around the corner on the main street for faster travel around Kyoto. Two minute walk to grocery store and convenience stores. Staff spoke very good English, and were super helpful/friendly. Room was clean and spacious, and had a pleasant atmosphere. Loved the feel of a traditional ryokan mixed with the comfort of a modern hotel.

Located a little out of the way from Kyoto Station.

location was great, front desk staff went out of their way to help us, made bed up without feathers for me, bathroom layout had toilet/bidet behind door and shower/bath behind door so easy to share bathroom, washing machines available, room size was one of largest we have had in Japan

looked like an ant or roach bait was in corner of room, huge power line pole outside window, need many hooks to hang things.. could use hooks by door for coats, hooks in bathroom for towels or clothes

We stayed in the standard twin room on the top floor, the room was clean, and the mountain view was incredible. The room and the bathroom were very spacious. The room isn't cleaned daily (it can be cleaned for a fee), but the hotel provides all the amenities you might need at the reception, including fresh towels, toothbrushes and so on. We stayed for a week, so the room was cleaned free of charge once for our stay, so if you stay longer, they still clean the room after a specific time. What makes the hotel is its staff, they are the nicest people I've ever met working at a hotel reception! The location of the hotel is excellent too. It's situated next to the most beautiful shrines in Kyoto, which we walked past every day to get to downtown Kyoto, so this was a real treat!

I see other reviewers' points about the lack of space for clothes. There is no wardrobe, but they have a space to hang a few things up, which is enough. But if someone comes with many clothes, they might struggle for space and where to put it. Also, it's a bit of a walk to downtown Kyoto, but it's a very beautiful walk through old Kyoto.

Great place all around with excellent value. Excellent location in the Gion area of Kyoto, so you can walk to most places as well as the waterfront. Everything was very clean and the room was beautiful. Laundry room available on site was a bonus.

Not a negative, but if you're expecting a traditional Ryokan homestay, this is not the place. Rinn Gion is part of a chain, so you can definitely tell its a hotel converted to a more traditional feel.

The location is superb--within walking distance of several temples or other top tourist destinations in Kyoto. You can walk to the liveliest part of Kyoto within 10-15 minutes but where the hotel is located is nice and quiet. There is also a grocery store and convenience stores right nearby for anything that was needed during our stay. The staff was very friendly and helpful and the room was spacious, clean and comfortable. I would definitely stay here again the next time we make it to Kyoto.

Place was comfortable and clean. Overall ambience was pleasant. Staff were efficient and responsive. Facilities in the room were well maintained, room was well-appointed. We were 4 in the room and it was large enough to fit us all with our huge luggages.

Room lacked ample waste basket. For the price we paid, it would have been proper to provide and restock the bottles of water daily. The large beds only had 1 pillow each. For such a hotel, I expected then to provide at least 2 each.

Great location surrounded by amenities, restaurants and cafes. The hotel has friendly and helpful staff that were happy to help us get booking for local restaurants, taxis, whatever we needed. The Yasaka site has beautiful rooms that blend modern comforts with traditional style, it was very cool! Good communal facilities on one floor such as laundry with detergent available, toaster oven. They have lots of available free benefits like an amazon fire stick for your room, a library of books and manga to borrow, all the toiletries, toothbrush, razor, etc.etc.

No food options on site, including breakfast, though there is so much in the area it didn't particularly matter.
