This is a very traditional Japanese Ryokan. If you're looking for an authentic experience, this is it. Very comfortable, futons are on the floor so please do not expect a bed. However, clean, comfortable and lovely food. There is a single sex hot bath and shower area which is incredibly convenient and lovely addition to the hotel.

No criticism, all great.

Breakfast was excellent - traditional Japanese and delicious, and lots of different dishes. The Onsen was wonderfully relaxing; and the pool was a good size - 25 metres - good for lengths. The staff were very helpful; and the place was very clean and comfortable. Rooms are large and spacious for a family of 3. All set in beautiful surroundings. The accommodation was convenient for Kinkaku-Ji - with the hotel providing a shuttle bus to it. Good public transport links to the rest of Kyoto - first by bus, and then by subway/train (Kyoto is quite spread out and its amazing sights are all over the city). There are a few beautiful temples close by too.

If you did not want to have the Kaiseki Japanese dinner in the evening (which takes about 2 hours to eat), there did not appear to any restaurants close by. So some nights, we walked to the 7 Eleven for food and ate in our room. The swimming pool was only open between 10am and 5pm - it would have been nice to do some lengths in the pool after a long day's sightseeing.

great ryokan! a little far from the subway, but there is a bus stop nearby, and the hotel also provides a shuttle service to Kinkakuji and the nearest subway station in the morning at 9 and 10 am. We stayed in a Japanese style room and it was an unforgettable experience! The rooms are clean and spacious. As a compliment from the hotel there is tea and a small selection of traditional Kyoto sweets. The hotel also has public baths, which can be used free of charge by every hotel visitor. The rooms also provide traditional yukatas, which you can wear to walk around the hotel. We booked a room with breakfast - and I highly recommend this, since this ryokan serves a traditional Japanese breakfast, consisting of many dishes. Great choice for this price!

LOVED this ryokan, it was a great place to recharge during our trip to Japan. The hospitality was incredible, the room was lovely and simple and the duvets were so comfortable we wanted to find out how to buy them and take them home. Amenities were great, and we enjoyed the onsen with a gorgeous view of the forest. The meals were great, but just so much food we felt bad we couldn't come close to finishing it. Close to the city so it was easy to get to, but far enough away that it felt tranquil and calm. The gardens were beautiful and the staff were very helpful and accomodating.

Only small complaint was that our private bath on our terrace was tiny, much smaller than in the photos, and could barely fit one person let alone a couple of us. I had booked a room with a private bath so we could enjoy hanging out together without going down to the public onsen all the time, and we couldn't really enjoy that feature as much as I wanted. On the plus side, the onsen was tattoo friendly which we were surprised by so we did get to use it. I wouldn't have paid so much for a private bath if I knew it was so small.

We have had great experience with Japanese style room, very tasty food, ambience and private baths. Ryokan has really special atmosphere. Celebration of meals (breakfasts and dinners) was very special. Super friendly staff. Both public baths (small and big) were very nice. Swimming pool - nice and very much needed in August. Size of the room - very comfortable.

I underestimated the location from the perspective of public transport, getting to different points of interest, esp. during weekends/public holidays. Laundry option would be great (also given it's quite some distance to public laundry)

Everything was perfect! The staff is absolutely adorable and so so nice! The rooms were very spacious, very clean and so pretty. It was an amazing experience to stay at this Ryokan. The location, albeit not the easiest accessible, is gorgeous. The lobby was gorgeous, with a view on a splendid garden. The overall atmosphere of this Ryokan is what you expect: poetic and heart warming. We also tried their Kaiseki dinner which was a wonderful, albeit intersting, experience! The traditionnal breakfast on the morning was also very enjoyable. After dinner, we went to the public bath to relax before the night. It was, as always, a wonderful experience that we would recommend to anyone! This accomodation definitely exceeded our expectations. The staff helped us when we had an issue with our taxi on our leaving day and we couldn't be more thankfull! They were always there for us and made us feel welcomed right away. Thank you again for caring about us so much.

We enjoyed our stay in Ryokan since it was our first time experience. Room was spacious, cute outfits and relaxing atmosphere. It was further away from the city but we managed to reach it with a local bus.

We felt disappointed since only one onsen was open as we planned to have some time in an inside pool as well. Outside pool was closed and thats ok. Dinner took 2 hours so it would be nice to have it delivered to a room since sitting with other people is not that enjoyable and takes away the ryokan experience in the room.

For its price, Nenrinbo is affordable and delivers on a traditional experience. The location is a bit out of the way but it's also what you'd expect and probably should look for for Ryokans to begin with; with this in consideration, the hotel does offer shuttle service in the morning. The kaiseki dinner and breakfast were both hearty and delicious.

The room AC was locked to the hotel staff, and unfortunately the set temperature was a bit too warm, so our group sweated a bit even in our provided yukata during night.

Overall, it was a lovely.experience. The rooms are spacious, clean, well-furnished and well organised. Dinner was a lovely experience as well, albeit on the expensive side. Beautiful ambience and quiet and peaceful for a restful stay.

Access to the gardens is limited - this could have been made known explicitly at booking. Also, the location is a bit far from the city-centre and only served by one public bus route, though this is negated by the shuttle bus service.

The staff was exceptional. They were attentive, kind, and helpful. We walked down the road (15-20 min.) to the nearest convenience store and got to enjoy the quaint neighborhood and were greeted by students as they walked home after school. It was an uphill walk on the way back, which is very doable; however we chose to get a taxi back up. The onsen was spacious, clean, and highly enjoyable. We chose to have the kaiseki dinner in our room and it was superb! Quality meal with Japanese foods we were familiar with and some that we weren’t which made our dinner that more unique. The Japanese breakfast was over the top! Ryokan Nenrinbo was an affordable, quality choice to experience what makes Japanese culture so special. Arigato gozaimasu!

Nothing to dislike. All information prior to booking was transparent and accurate.
