The hosts are incredibly friendly, and it was a great experience staying in a traditional Japanese home! There is free tea, snacks, and breakfast, and the hosts are very knowledgeable in the area and will offer tips & advice for your travels! The place is very clean and the ambiance is really nice. Although the location is a bit away from the 'downtown' area, it's still located right beside one of the most famous shrines in Kyoto and is easy to reach by bus. They also have excellent quality kimonos for rent if you want to take pictures with the traditional architecture.

The only thing is that you have to share the common rooms with other guests, which might be a little awkward since you might have to wait to use the showers etc, but it was overall fine when we stayed!

There is so much to like about this traditional ryokan, from its small size (only 3 tatami mat rooms) and super quiet location to all the little extras provided by the owners. Book as early as possible if you want a chance to stay here as it is very deservedly popular. I was welcomed by the owner (who doesn’t live onsite) who provided matcha tea and biscuits - my own little tea ceremony - after showing me my room and the communal amenities (two WC, separate bath and shower, kitchenette with microwave and hot plate, stocked fridge, lounge area - with TV if you must). She not only explained about the house and the area - complete with a custom map of the immediate area showing things like (best ramen restaurant, reasonably priced Japanese restaurant, onsen) - she also took me on a short guided tour through the area including to the nearby Kitano Tenmangu Shrine. I confess I promptly forgot the shortcuts she showed me (it was dark, alright). DO go to the local onsen that she recommends - one of the nicest public bathhouses I visited in Japan - she has provided convenient baskets with toiletries and towels by the couch in the living area so just pick one up and go. I didn’t order the breakfast option but there are plenty of snacks and yoghurt available for guest consumption which was an unexpected but welcome bonus. You’ll be given your own set of keys - just remember that the front door SLIDES open and don’t be like me thinking that I’ve locked myself out. If you have a hankering to try on a kimono, then this is available for 4000¥ - the owner used to be a kimono dresser so I can guarantee that you will look better than the other tourists walking around. I wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again, preferably for a week next time - it was a perfect break between two hectic tours.

Nothing. It was perfect for me. There aren’t really any places close by to have breakfast but there are free snacks (milk bread, yoghurt, yakult, tea, coffee, juice) available 24 hours/day which is enough to keep you going until you find somewhere.

Beautiful location and homestead in kyoto. The beds are some of the most comfortable I've had in a long time! This is 'far' from the main touristic area, so expect to taxi, walk, or take buses a lot. However, the reward is the neighbourhood is beautiful, near incredible shrines, and very quiet. We only found out the last day that they indeed had bikes for rental! They don't have many, but if you can get your hands on them, you should! Kyoto is a great city to bike.

If on the ground floor/garden room: the room tends to get accidentally opened a lot of you don't lock it, and the lock is a bit hard to manoever sometimes. Expect accidental opening of your room while in it, unless you lock diligently

I stayed at this accommodation for three nights. From the first day I arrived, the host was incredibly hospitable. On top of that, the host took great care of my luggage, even cleaning and checking the suitcase and its wheels for me. This thoughtful gesture impressed me deeply. Despite me being a foreigner, the host made an effort to provide recommendations and take care of my needs. They suggested various tourist spots and even offered to drive me to some of them. I am so grateful for their kindness that I find it hard to put into words. If you are looking for a wonderful place to stay in Kyoto, I highly recommend this accommodation.

I traveled with my wife and 7 year-old son. As soon as we arrived, we intermediately felt at home. The host are a lovely couple, very friendly and considerate; the type of people you don't believe exist anymore. Willing to help all the time, they took us by car to a nearby supermarket the first night after a late arrival. There are 3 rooms, shared bathroom, two restrooms, small kitchen and laundry, as well as a common are downstairs where you are welcome to eat. We stayed at the Sakura room upstairs, the futon beds are super comfortable, nice AC and window facing the beautiful small garden. The atmosphere of the inn is wonderful, the other guests staying were also very friendly and we shared breakfast enjoying the bread/sweets, tea, soup and yogurt that are included for free. Overall it was an excellent experience. This is not a super fancy hotel, but instead a small traditional ryokan style-house convenient and quiet. Absolutely recommended!

We stayed totally in 4 places during our trip to Japan, and this place made our trip immemorial. The house is a traditional ryokan located in the historical place. The owner’s family are extremely nice, knowledgeable and friendly people. First of all, I’d like to thank them for being very kind to us. The owner is a true master of kimono, who offered to rent a kimono, and it’s absolutely must have because you won’t get such experience anywhere else. Also they always proactively told and even showed which cultural places and restaurants are best to visit. Thank you ❤️

The couple who runs it, was so helpful and nice. The communication was really good with the help of a translator app. She answered incredibly quick to questions. Sorry again that we bothered you that much with different stuff, we really appreciated your help. The garden room was really nice but you have to know that these old traditional japanese houses are very clairaudient, so expect to bring ear plugs. There were a washing machine and a dryer which was perfect. We had an amazing electric foot massage machine in the room, which was perfect. Everything was clean and tidy and you can feel the effort, which they put in. We also could use a bike, which was a nice plus. Also there were tea and different snacks for free, which was really nice. Thank you for everything!

The mattress on the futon felt a little worn out in the middle, which made the surface too hard.

We enjoyed staying at the HANA Nishijin Guesthouse, a 100 year house in a quiet neighborhood in Kyoto. Our room had access to a garden, which was a peaceful place to relax after a long day of touring Kyoto. I also enjoyed the foot massager in the sunroom. The traditional Japanese beds were incredibly comfortable. We were in Japan for 1 week and I had my best night sleep here! The breakfast is basic, but enough to get you started. The hosts are incredibly nice and welcoming. We got a small tour of the area when they walked us to a local restaurant, where we had amazing ramen. The bathroom is shared, but this was never an issue. The place is very well organized to ensure we all had privacy and space. This isn't close to the city train line, but there are bus stops conveniently located, 3-5 minutes away from the guesthouse walking.

The house was nice. Traditional. Room was clean. Washing machine and dryer are always a plus. Complementary breakfast and snack. Owners are very helpful. Dropped us and few others to the Golden Pavillion. He showed us all the food places on the way to the temple. We were thinking to rent a bike but it was raining and the owner was very helpful in trying to find us bike rental place. We got to meet other guests and chatted with them in the living room. Located at Nishijin. Very close to Kitano Tenmangu Temple and Kamishichiken. Close to Golden Temple and a station for Randen line to Arashiyama. In a quieter area compared to Gion, which was good. Child friendly. The owner provided a little kid chair and toy knowing we have a little kid. That was very sweet of them. Thank you.

Nothing really. We knew it was far from main area and opt for the location for a change.
