Built decades ago, this house is a literally antique with lovely wooden and bamboo decorations, and the modern bathroom makes our stay really comfortable. Staying here is one of the best ways to pretend to be a local Japanese. Also it is near to the Funaoka Onsen, another good way to live a real Japanese lifestyle. The owner did her best to help us with everything we need. The fig bread is real bonus!
The location is a little bit far away from the sightseeing center Gion. Yet the public bus can take you wherever you want to go. It's more appropriate for people who want to dive into the daily life of Kyoto, or whose priority is around the north side of the city just like us.

This is THE place to stay when visiting Kyoto. It felt like our home and Yuko (the host) went beyond our expectations to make our trip memorable with advice, travel suggestions and even brought my kids birthday gifts! If you want to experience living in a historical Japanese home, you will not be disappointed. Everything was organised to make your stay perfect. A lot of value for money. Do not miss out on visiting the local neighbourhood-Onsen.
A bit of a busride to get there, but for the quiet and feel of a Japanese neighbourhood it was absolutely worth it.

We’re a family of 3 and our stay at Yumeji was fantastic. We loved the more traditional style lodging and atmosphere. Ken is a wonderful host - he met us to show us around the place and deliver the bread for morning. He went above and beyond to make our stay memorable. There is a dryer which I didn’t see in the listing, so that was a nice surprise. My husband was concerned about how he would sleep because he has some issues with his back but we all slept better than expected (most of our vacations are spent camping so this was far more comfortable.) There are no trains nearby so we took the bus to and from which was perfect for us because the buses are frequent, clean, and inexpensive. Walking to Kinkaku-Ji was quick and easy. If we make it back to Kyoto we will absolutely stay here again.

This is a spacious and well maintained traditional Japanese house that has everything you may need (kettle, microwave, heater/air condition, toiletries, slippers, massage device, laundry machine, extra baskets to take antyhing you need to the local onsen etc.). The owner was super sweet and helpful and gave us plenty of suggestion what to do for fun activities, food, etc. Everything has been super organised and very thoughfully designed. You get to sleep on a tatami floor and experience the vibe of a more traditional area. We love it and we wished we stayed longer (as we have been wanting to book this property for some time, but unfortunately when we got to book it it was available for only one of the nights we were in Kyoto).
Everything was excellent!

A wonderfully cosy, little, century-old house with original wood joinery and lighting. The kontatsu and kerosene heaters made it especially comfortable in the cold weather. The owners came across as very warm, welcoming and genuine people and the bread they provided from their Cafe/Bakery business was some of the best I've ever had.
The house isn't very well-insulated and can get very cold very quickly in the winter, but this is a non-issue given the comfy kontatsu and indoor heaters that work especially well in the confined, small spaces of the house.

Beautifully preserved vintage house, very engaged host. Really enjoyed the recommended noodles (and Rennosukes ramen place nearby). The advice about Funuoka onsen was a great one, and the host even provides an onsen visitation kit with the apartment. Bread was yummy, especially liked the walnut bread
For getting to east and south Tokyo, location is not perfect - but also the area was really nice and calm which was great.

We were greeted by a very nice young lady who gave us a tour and explained what everything was. She was very polite and helpful. The house was clean and quiet, it was the traditional feel we were looking for. It wasn’t far from bus stops and it was a simple walk to get to Kinkaku-ji.
If you are looking for something with quick access to all the major sites of the city this may not be the greatest place unless you are scheduling taxis to get there or are able to rent bikes, both were reasonably available.

YUMEJI is a well-preserved Japanese vintage house. The architecture is quaint. The street is tranquil. There are a lot of traditional Japanese houses around this area. The environment is full of a unique sense of elegant ancient simplicity. A charming place! Ken the owner of YUMEJI and the girl who is the owner of Cafe Frosch, they are very kind people. They gave us a big help for confirming a taxi when we left. Ken invited us to visit his workshop and show us some of his collection which is very attractive. Also, Ken is a good backer and makes very nice bread.
It will be more convenient if the kitchen facility could be improved.

Gorgeous old house that's very well preserved and full of artistic details, like decorations with kimono fabric produced in the area. It's very vintage, so treat this house gently, like it was your grandmother. The neighborhood is very quiet and residential and safe and non-touristy despite being very close to Kitano, Hirano, and Kinkakuji. The host is extremely nice and because I can speak Japanese, he spent like 20 minutes showing off every detail of the house and telling me about its history (it's over 100 years old!). He even sent us some recommendations for local vintage stores I might like because I told him I like kimono and vintage Japanese art. He is very happy to see foreigners appreciating old Japanese culture and eager to share about it. Despite the house being vintage, it's retrofit with a modern bathroom and one of the nicest showers I've found in these old homes. The bedding and towels were also very thoughtful and comfortable. If you want a very authentic stay that feels like a step back in time, this is absolutely the place to pick. Bless this host for preserving this history and making it possible for people to experience it.
Do not stay here if you have children, full stop. This house is a historical artifact and is very delicate and should be handled with care. Your brat will break something within an hour, regardless of how well behaved you think they are. If you're not willing to treat the house carefully and be patient with its age, don't risk destroying a piece of history and stay elsewhere.

Lovely traditional home, well taken care by the owner who personally checked us in and was very flexible with check in time. The complimentary japanese 🍙 breakfast at Cafe Frosch was such a delight and the autumn leaves tree right outside was simply breathtaking. Host have a few bicycles which guests can use (provided we have insurance coverage to cover third party risk). Host also recommended a few food joints and we really enjoyed the lunch set at 笑和 WARAWA 075-463-0855 https://maps.app.goo.gl/39AvbmFSnQeAQoBq9?g_st=ic and also the jamon pizza + salad at Ichigoichie +81 75-461-0080 https://maps.app.goo.gl/kukWK3aaKFyhCE7G6 (Both joints is just a short walk away from Yumeji)
Everything was great ^^
