Room was ultra clean. It is more spacious than most hotels in Kyoto. Amenities are provided and refilled daily. Eye masks, facial masks, and even a bottle of sake (for their famed sake bath) were replenished every single day. Pillow requests were also available. Though not near a train station, you can easily walk to the Gion area.

The nearest train station was quite a distance away however, the Hotel is walking distance from the main Gion shopping area. At this point, I am really just nit-picking - as we were driving in from Osaka, it was difficult to locate the Hotel at first - if you miss a turn, you may need to take a 5 mins detour as traffic along the main road is congested most of the time.

The hotel offers traditional Japanese hospitality in the heart of the city's cultural landscape. With a serene atmosphere and attentive staff, guests are ensured a memorable stay. The hotel's dedication to hospitality is evident in every interaction, providing insider tips and attending to special requests. Its exquisite cuisine, featuring meticulously prepared dishes, and prime location, offering easy access to Kyoto's iconic sights, further enhance the experience. Saka Hotel Kyoto is a haven where impeccable service, delicious food, and a central location combine for an unforgettable Kyoto experience. Will definitely come back for more.

Overall, the hotel was one of the best hotels I've ever been to. I've been traveling for 40 years, going to many high-end hotels, and Saka Hotel left me very satisfied. The Kaiseki dinner and breakfast were wonderful. The club room is full of snacks and drinks. The hotel was very clean and spacious, and everything was beautiful. The staff was so friendly. Additionally, the location was close to Ninenjaka and Sanenjaka.

The hotel room was very clean, but various bugs and snails got into the restroom and room because the onsen area was so hot and humid. Therefore, the winter season might be better to use the open-air onsen room. The onsen area was nice, but there was no view at all because there were no windows in the onsen area and room, although the ceiling was open in the onsen area.

1. Staff Staff members here are very courteous and friendly. They welcome you warmly and do not discriminate against foreigners. My partner and I left a pouch in the room and checked out. We called the next day and were keeping it for us! Pretty sure they could have mailed it to us for a fee, but we were in Osaka and decided to head back to collect. 2. Location Located just a few minutes walk away from Kiyomizu dera, Ninenzaka and Sannenzaka streets. This was a good pit spot to head to these popular locations early in the wee hours. As everyone knows, Kiyomizu dera gets really popular from 9am onwards, staying at this hotel allowed us to visit Kiyomizu really early in the morning to avoid the crowd and get the best photos. It is however pretty far from any subway stations, so be prepared to walk or take the buses to go anywhere. 3. Room + Facilities The room was amazing. It was huge and had a very homey-vibe. Bathtub + sake was amazing, and my partner really enjoyed soaking in it.

There were only 2 sets of coin Washer + Dryer Head down at weird hours to avoid waiting

great location near Gion and Kiyumizu dera and other main sights to see but on the quiet side of the district. Personalized service, I really like that they put a mat where they lay my bag on the floor, i feel my things respected too. Great breakfast, we tried both western and Japanese. Also enjoyed their free afternoon drinks and eats. Lovely spacious rooms and i love the sake bath

We’re just 30 mins late of checking out and they already charged us half of our room rate. No consideration. They posted a view of the pagoda but never seen it from the hotel. Not so nice view of the streets from our room

Impeccable service. When you check in, the staff have you sit in the lounge area, bring you tea, and conduct the rest of the check in there so you're not standing around at the counter. You get the sense that the staff take their jobs extremely seriously. Room: We had a twin room with a tatami area and wooden bath. We bathed every single night, it was so luxurious. They also provided a fresh set of face masks and 2 cleanser + essence + lotion samples every day, so make sure you use them! Loved the yukata and sleepwear - perfect place to conk out after a tiring day of sightseeing. I will say that the beds were on the hard side for me, but that's just standard for Japan. The balcony and sliding doors looked out onto a beautiful view. Location: absolutely cannot be beat, you're minutes away from Kiyomizu-dera and thus have a chance to see it bright and early in the morning before the swarms arrive. It's also an incredibly quiet neighborhood but just a 5 min walk away from major bus lines. Food; We also had the breakfast and ¥9,000 kaiseki dinner menu - both were incredibly good.

Literally nothing. everything was amazing

The aesthetic was great. They had a beautiful private onsen that we were able to book. The rooms were larger than expected and had a beautiful bath/shower. Comfortable beds! The seasonal variety in meals was great. We also had a private dinner which was really nice after a long day of walking.

The hotel was a bit off the beaten path so had to walk through more crowds or took longer to get to sites. I do wish there were options for meals. Variety was great but would have preferred to pick and choose. What I didn't eat, my husband ended up eating to not waste.

We felt really relaxed when we stepped into the hotel! For the first time, after changing three hotels on our trip, we got our temperature checked during check-in. Although COVID was pretty much over, we felt like that hotel legitimately wanted their staff and guests to feel and be safe. We also felt really special when they walked us to our room. We didn't book the private bath but the staff told us that the entire family can use the bath in one timeslot. We stuck with the bath in our room and I must say, I underestimated the size of an ofuro. We felt really relaxed after a good soak. Our room came with alot of amenities like local snacks and masks (skincare). All in all, everything was beautiful and spotless clean. The lounge area had lots of snacks and drinks free for taking whenever you want. There was even a massage chair there. We splurged and booked the room with the breakfast. No regret cause the breakfast was an experience and it was memorable. We had to choose a later timeslot for our breakfast as we checked in later at night. It was a four min walk from a bus stop and alot of tourist attractions were within walking distance.

Too far to walk to a subway station (more than 15 min).

It is a hotel that offers an authentic experience, with a very good location. It is a different concept through which you can experience local traditions. The services were above the level of hotel classification. We enjoyed the massage chair in the lounge area where we could serve tea, coffee, snacks, wine or champagne after 16:00.

If you are not used to local food and want a European breakfast, you should notify the hotel in advance and see if they have alternatives.

Nobody in my family speaks Japanese, but Mayumi and the rest of the staff bent over backwards to overcome the language barriers and ensure we had everything we needed. The Saka Hotel is wonderful and their staff and facilities are excellent! The food, both breakfast and dinners were as good or better than anything we ate during our 2 weeks in Japan.
