The location is very near the temple , can have a amazing morning and night walk around. Breakfast is extraordinarily good . Staffs are very helpful and polite The overall vibes is quite different from others 5-star hotel . Full of historic atmosphere every corners in this hotel

Wonderful location tucked away off the main streets. Super quiet in the hotel but bustling outside. Staff were lovely & the hotel felt very secure. Room was much larger than the norm for Japan (and in general).

If you are planning to visit the Kiyomizu-dera, this is one of the closest hotel from the temple. It takes literally about 5 mins walk up the hill to the temple, you cannot ask for anything more. If you ever been to this temple, it is a magnificent place to visit, but it is also very very crowded(all-year round). During the day, you would be stuck in traffic, just to get close to this area. If you ever stay here, tell your taxi driver to let you off by the main road before entering the loop, because the road is a 1-way loop, with the truck loads of tourists every hour of the day, it takes like 30+ mins just to go around the loop, and the hotel is located at the end of the loop. Wait, but there's more, this hotel is all about making sure the guests are well taken care of. From the room to the service, it is all about the little details, it is just excellent all around.

Beautiful hotel, real sense of luxury and attention to detail from the staff who were helpful at every interaction. The concierge was very helpful and arranged dinner reservations for us. The rooms are large and comfortable. The location is perfect for exploring. The guest lounge offers free drinks and small snacks and was a nice benefit.

The service charge for the rooftop bar was expensive (10% plus 1100YEN per person on top of the bill). Particular painful if in a group. On our first night, we ordered a £50 bottle of wine and the service charge made our bill £90. We didn't go back to the rooftop again because of this. I would still return to this hotel, because everything else was fantastic.

Staff were excellent accommodating and extremely polite respectful and accommodated to all our needs(e.g I needed laundry done same day and missed the cut off time and the staff kindly arranged this to be done). The property and room is excellent, very clean and pleasant. The room had enough sockets, the lighting was good, the bathroom had lovely hot water with good pressure. It’s very modern with nearby temples and amenities outside the doorstep.

Guest have to pay a cover charge to use the rooftop bar, breakfast, and normal bar. This is above what your order. I would have liked it to be deducted for guest if they have a minimum spend. E.g if u spend 10,000yen then the cover charge should be deducted or waived.

Everything of this hotel was good - location, service, food quality, ambience and tasteful design, thoughtful manager and staff….etc. It is one of the best hotels which I have stayed in last so many years. And for the price, though not cheap, but overall experience was better than some hotels which charge higher rate such as Park Hyatt or Four seasons. The manager, Tsukasa San was very thoughtful and helpful in making arrangements for me. And one must visit the roof top bar if weather permits as it is really a cool bar with good selection of whiskey and view of the pagoda. And the manager, koyano san, was funny and thoughtful as well. Service of this hotel is top class, very well trained and managed.

The hotel is situated very close to Kiyomizu-dera and it is very convenient to go there early in the morning. The interior of the hotel is beautifully decorated. Staff is very friendly and helpful. There is a private lounge for snacks and drinks till 10 pm. Definitely a choice to stay in Kyoto.

The traffic jam and the crowd of people around the hotel, especially in the hot season around cherry blossom. Be careful when you need to take a taxi there (with heavy luggage). Otherwise avoid the busy time.

I liked everything about the hotel: the location, the service, the food. I especially liked the lounge. The rooms are comfortable and very clean. The staff is friendly and professional. Breakfast is tasty and made of fresh ingredients. I really appreciated the fact that they made special arrangements for a little surprise for my husband's anniversary. You really feel welcomed and taken care of. It is amazing how, coming from a really busy street you find yourself in an oasis of peace.

Location; character and personality of the property; amazing staff with the exception of some young new waiters in breakfast. They couldn’t speak or understand English properly & also lack of international culture understanding so at times difficult to request simple things like type of eggs (sunny side up etc).

Young new waiters in training need a bit more guidance and closer attention to detail. Benoit was also a disappointment for dinner as the lighting was too bright and ruined the ambience. Rooftop bar - lack of dress code for walk in guests downgrades the feel and elegance if of the place
