It had such a calm feel to it. We arrived to Kyoto early afternoon and explored close to the hotel. From the moment you entered you felt the stress of the streets fall away. We arrived by train and the process to check in at their check in office was completely problem free. The rooms are small but that is to be expected and note the expectation is that you will be quiet and considerate to other guests. To the staff member that mentioned the temple opened early that was so helpful, thank you. We woke up and wandered the tourist areas at 6:30am and had an amazing time before the crowds.

Nothing negative at all.

The room was a little bit small. But this is Japan where most hotel rooms are tiny, so it was ok with me. A great experience staying in a machiya converted into a guesthouse. Would recommend this to anyone who doesn't mind the 25-minute walk from Kyoto Station. Quiet and clean neighbourhood. I had an upstairs room. To sleep looking at the beautiful rafters was a new experience.

I still prefer printed manuals and instructions to online pdf ones. The TV also only had Japanese programmes without the option for subtitles. So, we didn't watch TV at all during our stay. The plus point to that was that we really explored the neighbourhood. What I really liked were the yukata that were provided for guests. Really nice local touch!

The location - We stayed for 4 nights in a Western room at this lovely traditional ryoken in a quiet street within walking distance to some main temples and attractions. Bus route was also close by to get back to the station. The beds were very comfortable and the bathroom was a reasonable size for Japan. Loved that our luggage was taken to our room for free, after checking in close to the Kyoto train station. Directions to find the checkin point and the Ryoken itself were very clear. A short taxi ride is required and they give you a map to give to the taxi driver.

I would recommend a larger room within the property as we stayed in a small twin room on the second floor and the stairs were very steep. Even so, the location was fantastic and it felt like we experienced a traditional Kyoto neighbourhood.

The room had a nice look, reminiscient of traditional japanese houses. The house itself is a traditional machiya (wooden townhouse) which was tastefully renovated. The bathroom with a tub was very clean and had a good size. The room has a window (with bugscreen) to a little garden. The room was clean and the bed big enough. Luggage delivery from the reception at Kyoto Station to the house was free for one piece per person. The location is in a very quiet neighbourhood, a bus stop is in 5, a subway station in 10 minutes walking distance. A great breakfast shop is right around the corner (look for the red vespa!)

Staff, though very friendly, did not speak english all too well. Since the reception is not at the same location as the rooms, requests had to be handled by phone which was quite difficult. Luggage transport back to the reception on checkout day costs 800¥ per piece (and requires leaving your luggage in an unlocked room).

Lovely machiya in the heart of Kyoto. Accomodation similar to ryokans we stayed at in the countryside, but with more modern facilities similar to what you might expect form any business hotel in Japan. Located in a very quiet and peaceful neighbourhood, we were able to have the windows open at night for the breeze and still slept well as it was super quiet. Check in desk located near Kyoto station, if you arrive before 3pm, they can take your luggage and deliver to your room, which was a lifesaver and saved us lugging 2 suitcases around the city. Convenient location to explore eastern part of the city and also walking distance to Kamo river and Gion district. Staying here, you really get to experience authentic Kyoto.

Didn't realised that the rooms are not serviced unless you're staying 4 nights or more. Also didn't realise you need to contact hotel staff to organise garbage pick up/disposal, so our bins got very full after 3 nights stay.

This property was half like a hotel half like air bnb. It was really clean, (no one cleans your room during the stay), we were provided with a lot of amenities, drip coffee was also available. Location was great, we walked to a lot of attractions. Bed (although on the floor) was super comfortable and AC was powerful, which was needed as it was super hot in Kyoto!

It was a little confusing to sort out getting our keys. So, the check in desk is not on-site but rather next to Kyoto Station, so when you arrive before 7pm, you will need to go there. But we were arriving after 7pm so I had to email them and pay the tax in advance to obtain a password to get access to the key. Luckily they do send you emails and messages with all this information so I did sort it out before arriving in Kyoto but we did meet guests who didn't know what was happening. Also since its not a actual hotel they don't clean your room and restock the water.

Absolutely lovely hotel, and a great introduction to Kyoto. Walkable distance to some great spots, such as the Kyoto National Museum and the Kiyomizu-dera temple. The staff were very friendly and the room was small but comfy and exactly what we expected. Facilities were wonderful too. We just wish we had spent more than two nights here!

Only qualm is the walking distance between the check-in reception and the hotel itself. It's about a 15-20 minute walk. Make sure to book a Taxi in the case you have large bags!

Beautiful traditional ryokan with modern facilities. Check in is a 10 min walk from station then you make your way to accomodation. The staff member who was at the Ryokan on our arrival was lovely and helped us with washing machine and offered us some local advice for cafe etc. She also helped organise our baggage delivery to Hiroshima. The location is not in the hub but was nice to come back after a full day of sightseeing to a quiet area. The bus service is excellent and 4 minute walk to closest stop. Beds were comfy and the room was very cosy.

The location is convenient, only few minutes by feet from the train station. The personal was very nice and helpful, they even support in restaurant reservation. The room was clean, spacious and the bed were very comfortable. There is an Onsen directly in the hotel that can be booked twice a day and privatize so we enjoyed it a lot. On top there is some bento breakfast box each day available which is a nice attention. We had an amazing time and would highly recommend ! It was our best hotel in our whole two weeks in Japan !

We had such a lovely stay here and would definitely come back again! Walkable distance from some of the main attractions in Kyoto and the main shopping areas, with public transport super accessible too. The place was very clean and tidy and had all the amenities we needed. The staff at check-in were also very kind and accommodating, and also quick to respond to messages. Could not fault our stay!

There wasn't anything we didn't like about our stay, really enjoyed staying here!
