Amazing location, incredibly close to Kiyomizu-dera, if staying here it's worthwhile to get up extra early to walk there. You can absolutely walk from pontocho alley and gion back. One of the best walkable locations to stay. If you are crazy enough, like us, you can totally walk to nishiki Market.

Room was a little bit cold and a little bit cramped for 3 people, if you come with any more than a 1 or 2 luggage a group, you won't have much space at all. Not exactly an issue, just something to note if you plan to stay in here.

The owner is incredibly welcoming and friendly, highly appreciate his calm and interesting character, always open for a talk/discussion. It was my first experience to sleep on a tradition futon and I liked it. Bear in mind that it's not the softest matress but that's what makes it more healthy for the back. The house is located not too far from the city center, attractions/palaces can easily be accessed by nearby bus stations. Shared bathrooms were always clean. The area is super calm, no noise from outside. I could wash my laundry for only 100 yen

If you have heavy luggage, keep in mind that there is no elevator. Walls can be kinda thin, however, I have experienced no major disturbance from neighbors.

Really nice living area downstairs with a kitchen + free tea and coffee, and we had a cute, traditional style room with futons. The owners were great, there was no language barrier and they were funny so enjoying a coffee in the living area while having a chat was fun :) Also it's in a part of Kyoto that allowed accessing the city to be easy.

The only downside was the rather thin walls and loud neighbours in the room next to us, but thin walls come with the traditional aesthetic and there's nothing the owners would be able to do about slightly noisy guests.

Great place to stay in Kyoto. Tohper was super helpful and flexible. We couldn't arrive in time for check in and he waited for us very late. We also had an issue with the AC which he fixed instantly. Very considerate. We also enjoyed having access to the kitchen and living room which was helpful for a couple of breakfasts and dinners when we didn't always want to eat out with the kids. loved the relaxed and friendly atmosphere

The man who runs the place is friendly and welcoming, location is decently close to some great tourist spots like 清水寺 and 八坂神社. Some buses run quite close as well making transport easy. Rooms are good for the price too.

Never had a problem with the place, check in times being later than what I'm used to made scheduling a little bit harder though.

+ friendly and always helpful staff +fully equiped kitchen + climatization in the room +recieved bigger room than we should get! :-)))))

-The locker in our room door, not very clever lock the door inside without the key because you can leave your keys in the room and lock them.

I like nearly everything had no real complaints at all. The staff was awesome, the main area was nice and comfortable. The room was awesome. It was nearly ideal for anything I can think of.

The only thing I wasn't too keen on was the really bad cushioning between the futon and the floor

quintessential hostel experience - a dirt cheap private room for my friends and I to crash in in gion. Staff were friendly and we had several amusing conversations.

N/A, for what it was, it was all we needed.
