Very friendly stuff, excellent location. Nice bar with beer and sake. If you want you can have a breakfast. It's a great experience to live in a such authentic place. It's like Ninja Palace. English speaking stuff could assist me in multiple questions, starting from finding the best onsen in town and ending with calling my embassy. Locations is just amazing, right in a middle of station and sightseeing points. Lobby is absolutely magnificent, just bring your snacks and drinks and chill like an emperor. 15 min by feet from the Guest House there is cool Onsen

Staying in dormitory is quiet uncomfortable, no place to put your belongings, need to respect other guest privacy. Coming back late and waking up early is hard, because you need to be super quiet. However I was seeking for such kind of experience. Great tool to reset from daily European routine

This is a basic backpacker hostel with a lot of charm. My room in the female tatami mat 4 bed dorm was a futon with a curtain, and a nightlight. It worked well for me - it's what I'm used to. The staff were delightful, offering a small cafe downstairs (so I got my morning caffeine!). Showers were basic, but did the job. I loved that it was an old wooden Kyoto house, re-purposed. The location was good - within walking distance of the Kamo river, Gion, Kiyomizudera & the eastern hills. Easy to get buses anywhere in Kyoto, and the Keihan line station 2 minutes walk away (Nara line) is convenient for day trips to Nara and Uji. Backpacks can be left at reception on the leaving day - I picked mine up at 5pm.

All good, for the price

It was such a beautiful guest house - traditional Japanese style & just a gorgeous homey feel. I loved the cafe downstairs both in the day and the evening, had a very nice vibe about it - also both the best coffee and coffee I’ve had in Japan! It was in a great location - I walked everywhere or there was a train station just 350m down the road which made everything so easily accessible. And every single staff member was so lovely and so helpful. I just loved it! I will 100% stay here again when I come back to Kyoto one day.

Nothing - I loved my stay here!

It was so cosy from the moment we looked inside, and we were warmly greeted upon entering. Their toast and coffee in the morning was the perfect meal to start the day, and they even made us breakfast before they opened because we had to leave by 9am! the atmosphere of the place felt so homely 😊 will definitely be back!

showers were a little bit small, but nothing terrible. they were actually conveniently set out, just the area to wash in was a little small. The beds are just mats on the floor, so rather than this being a dislike, it's more a warning to guests who don't want to sleep on the floor. The walls are thin, so sometimes you'll hear people snoring from other rooms.

I absolutely loved everything about my stay at Gojo Guest House. The architecture was stunning, it felt like I was in the historical period of Japan. The female dorm had tatami & were separated with a curtain, but provided enough privacy as a fellow introvert. The bathrooms were shared but were well kept & I appreciated the retro bathhouse vibes it had. Last but not least, the Kamo river is practically next to the Guest house so I was blessed on my walks to & from each day.

That I didn't stay longer!

I loved this place. The authentic japanese style and the friendly staff make this guest house absolutely the perfect and peaceful place in which stay during visiting Kyoto. Super equipped and clean. The house has a washing machine, a shared kithen and a beatiful shared space. Shared bedrooms have japanese style beds, which are very comfortable. I liked that each guest has his/her own private space even though the room is shared with other people. The location allows to reach most of the attractions by bus or on foot very easily, indeed I was not able to walk for long distance so I find this place super strategic.

Absolutely nothing.

The room is cozy and the bed is comfortable to have a good night sleep. The location is 10 min walking distance from Kiyomizu-dera, and located in a rather quiet area. It's not too close to the most crowded area in Kyoto (Shijo), so you can enjoy some peaceful time here. The most important thing is that this is a great place to meet new friends. Everyone stays in the public area from time to time, and just chatted. I even schedule a half-day trip with a person I met here.

If you are a person who likes to shop in Shijo, and want to be as close to the shopping center at night, then perhaps it's not the right location for you. To me, the showering place is a bit small, so I went to public sento everyday (The showering space is adequate, I partly went to sento for experiencing the culture).

The best place to stay In Kyoto! i felt like home in this Guesthouse. All the Staff are really kind and friendly and the custumers services is the best so far. Big plus for the cafe where they serve you a nice breakfast, Cafe, sandwhiches, curry also yuzu and plum wine. the cafe start at 9 am until 9pm . the common area is really cozy, one of the best because you can meet nice people pretty easily. and it s a good thing when you travelling for a long time. it s also pretty near just by walk to the famous temple Kiyomizu Dera and Gion area.

Not your usual guesthouse as this place has a traditional Japanese feel to it - I slept on a futon and tatami on the floor, and the door are the traditional sliding ones. My space was sizeable enough for my luggages and I. The toilets were big enough and clean. The lounge chilling area was big and you can definitely find your spot. Place was near train station , and key attractions are not far.

Might be a problem for some - the toilets and showers are all at level one while sleeping areas are at level two. No lift so must carry your luggage sup a stairs.

First and foremost, the staff is very friendly, lovely and COOL. They really make this place what it is. The cafe/bar provides a genuine feel and really ups the experience. Having locals visit it regularly makes it so much different than other guest houses. The building itself is old and gives out this Kyoto-vibe that I was really looking for. Location is great for all the eastern parts of Kyoto, including Fushimi Inari Taisha and Kiyomizu-dera.

Now I don't think these things are cons, but rather features of the place. The building is old so noise insulation is very bad, there is small draft, there is noise coming from the street and the look is a bit rugged. But of you want the feeling of an old japanese-style guest house, this is what you get! Only thing that I would change is the futons; they are thin! You can feel the floor under you and that is something you don't want as a tired traveler trying to catch some rest. Nevertheless, I slept my nights really well.
