A short taxi ride from the JR train station. A short walk to Nara deer park. Very nicely designed interior. The room was spacious. The minibar was included in the room rate and replenished every day. Tea snack was provided every day, as expected in good ryokans although it calls itself a hotel. The small towel came in a nice Japanese cloth bag each day which we could bring home as souvenirs. They have a very lovely rooftop garden which was beautifully lit at night. I have stayed at many ryokans in Japan and this ranks among the best in terms of service, from the reception to the restaurant staff. The food was comparable to the higher end ryokans with a choice of 3 different hotpots for our second night's dinner. They served several dishes unique to Nara, which I was seeing for the first time despite my having been to Japan multiple times. They also had a violinist to entertain diners, going around each of our private rooms. They even brought us Nara deer soft toys to pose for a joint photograph during dinner to commemorate our stay. All in all, a great stay that exceeded our expectations.
They provided workman-like pants-trousers attire in the room, but they did not have yukatas in the room and we had to request for them the first two days. However, by the third day, they had delivered them to our room during room cleaning. There were two bathing rooms but only one had towels provided.

Everything was outstanding. The reception staff, is extremely curteous and highly professional. We were given a very good map to help us navigate around Nara's temple. The room was exquisite, the futons very comfortable. The bathroom offered so many amenities and beauty products! We also loved the traditional outfit available during our stay. The traditional breakfast was delicious and allowed us to discover dishes we would never have otherwise. The onsen was perfect after a long day walking around town. I'm dreaming of coming back again!
I honestly can't think of anything wrong regarding this gem! May be one thing: offer bigger bathtubs in the rooms that have the option.

A very comfortable tatami-mat room with a deep full soak tub. The location in regards to Nara Park was fantastic and I had a wonderful view of Tōdai-ji in the mornings. Things were very quiet, the staff went above and beyond to make sure my stay was everything it could be including walking me through all the amenities they had to offer. They also provided local area maps with all the main attractions and let me know how best to navigate what I wanted to do which helped quite a bit with planning how I spent my time.
I just wish I could have stayed longer, there is so much to do in this location.

Property was located near Nara Park. Property offered free tour guide which we asked to book day of arrival instead of at checkout. Terrific service. Guide lead us thru Nara for approx 3 hrs. Dinner and breakfast were delicious and served in dining room. The pretty bag and bath towel gifts were a nice touch.
It was a bit odd that we had booked the annex which was more traditional section and were only provided PJs while the newer section had yukatas. However, we were still able to rent nice pretty yukata for very reasonable amount.

Everything was just perfect when we stayed here! When we arrived at the hotel, we were offered hot towels and lemon and honey tea. A worker took our luggage and brought it to our room. Our room was super spacious and comfortable, and there was even free beer and water in the fridge. The small outdoor bathtub was perfect and easy to use. The upstairs Onsen was small, but we were the only ones there, so it wasn't a problem for us. The kaiseki dinner and breakfast were perfectly made and delicious. It was fun to taste so many different dishes and flavors that we otherwise wouldn't have tasted. The whole experience of staying here was just perfect and definitely a highlight of our entire Japan trip. We would definitely stay here again and recommend this place to everyone who wants to experience a real ryokan experience
Nothing, everything was perfect.

Staff were so friendly and kind. We loved it here.
My only real complaint is that the food is average. We stayed at a lot of similar stays during our 3 weeks in Japan--a bunch of them offered the same types of meals. Unfortunately, the food here was probably our least favorite during our time in Japan. However, they brought in a violin player who was taking song requests while we ate, which was AWESOME! So overall, the dinner experience was still very special and we still loved our time here in Nara.

The traditional room was amazing and very spacious, with very clean facilities and a small balcony for a relaxing bath outside. The onsen upstairs was very clean and very inviting with exceptional facilities. The staff were amongst the most friedly people we met on our travels around Japan providing us with a guide on popular routes to explore around Nara and offering additional services such as taking a photo of us and a free gift bag. The traditional breakfast was incredible, providing us with a very memorable experience.

The location close to park and todaji temple, the staff greeted us before we even got to the door, greeted with a welcome drink and all bags taken to room. Then staff took us to our room and gave us an explanation on everything, very kind and attention to detail.
Kaiseki wasn’t to our tastes but still nice, also the onsen opening times were very restrictive especially in the morning with an early check out time at 10am… leaves you very little time to enjoy the facilities Wakasa has to offer.

A beautiful, traditionally designed hotel. Our room was absolutely beautiful. The floor was made of tatami mats and we were given futons to sleep on. We had a delicious Japanese style breakfast, although you could opt for a western breakfast if you’d prefer. We also had a multi-course dinner. It was expensive, but completely worth it for the experience. The hotel was easy walking distance to shops and restaurants, as well as the deer park. It had a rooftop terrace which was lovely and public baths you could use. The staff were wonderful. Would highly recommend this hotel.

The annex is a part of the New Wakasa Hotel. All of it is so beautifully done. We stayed in a traditional Japanese style room with an attached onsen. It was perfect. The staff was incredibly helpful, nice and polite. They walked us to our room and explained all the amenities. We had a traditional Japanese dinner and breakfast included and the staff was so kind to explain every food to us. The staff were the stars of the show!
