Location is not bad since it's not far from the bus and train station and there are stores and restaurants nearby. My favourite part was the outdoor onsen which I really loved.

Its a quiet village, the landscape reminded me of Ghibli pictures. The room was great along with the view. There is a wonderful restaurant nearby called Ikari, they have vegetarian options which is great.

It might be hard if you dont speak japanese but other than it was great.

A wonderful glimpse back to the past heyday of booming onsen resorts, but in a far less apocalyptic town than Kinugawa just down the road/river. Hotel is definitely showing its age, but is run by a lovely lady and the japanese style room was huge and has everything you need for a comfy stay. I highly recommend doing the hike directly behind the hotel up and down the hill, as it can turn into a great loop walk around and through the village if you take the river down to the dam crossing.

The set menu breakfast was delicious and great value, but as non-Japanese the dinner while elaborate was at least half mystery to us, and they were unable to cater to dietary needs - you can get far more and great dinner at the local resultant Ikari 2 min walk away, including many vegetarian options

Beautiful traditional Japanese hotel. We had a Japanese room with tatami mats, Japanese style seats and futon beds. Luckily the futons were doubled so more comfortable that typical! There is a communal onsen segregated by gender and traditional Japanese meals are served breakfast and dinner. You MUST PREBOOK your meals when you book your room at the hotel. Otherwise there are 2 really good restaurants in the village but I don't think they do breakfast. The nearby convenience store also has good food options. The restaurant and lobby area are more modern that the rooms. Despite being called Sakahijiri Nikko the hotel is not in Nikko. It is located in a small village up in the hills. The staff are all lovely although only a few speak English.

We didn't realise how far away Nikko was. There are only a few trains a day and one was fully booked which meant we arrived several hours later than we had planned. The meals were interesting, delicious and there was plenty of food but unfortunately some of the staff don't speak English so we had no idea what we were eating. We only received a menu on the first night (we used Google translate to read it) but on our next 2 nights we had no idea what we were eating. Incredibly the only item of food that was identified each time it was served was the bowl of rice. I'm guessing it was the only English words they knew. Not really an issue and you certainly won't starve - unless you don't preorder your meals - but I would have loved an explanation of what we were eating.

The size and functionality of the bedroom: all appliances work perfectly and it was a huge room, specially for a solo traveler. It has got all the basic amenities, AC, extraction fan in the room, dehumidifier and even a massage chair. The onsen is quite nice, mainly the outside one (though it is colder-which I preferred) The staff is super friendly. For both the restaurant and the reception I was nicely welcomed and explained everything to the best of our communication capabilities. I was even offered to borrow an umbrella without even asking. The meals are an experience. Keep an open mind and try your best to imagine how to eat the hot pot like it's meant to - I might've butchered that one a little 😓. Flavour wise it was great and so much food! It has a good size car park (at least for autumn), and free. I imagine it being difficult to get here without a car, so that was a plus.

Like other comments. It is true the floors squeak a fair bit. In my room it was the shower/sink area that made the loudest noise. It didn't bother me, as I was staying alone; however, I can imagine the people In the room under hearing it all. And, yes the room has a bit of a smell. This was easily overcome with the extractor fan (at mid speed) or the window open. The means, although I liked them, are on the higher side of pricing. So, if you want alternatives be well prepared or go to the restaurant down the road (5minutes walk). It has got also big servings and nice ramen.

We chosen the place because we wanted a place that is quiet, relaxing and away from commercial tourists location. The place is perfect. We arrived at the property by a single train ride Riverty Aizu from Tobu line Asakusa station and get off at Kawaji Yumoto station. We are thankful to the property management team who have provided all the train ride information and assistance. We also traveled to Nikko town by train. We ordered meals options, both breakfast and dinner are awesome, we finished everything.

It is an old building, there are some refurbished/upgraded works done to the common area such as lounge, check in counter, walkway and restaurant. It would definitely be good to have refurbishment/upgrading work to the guest room.

Beautiful property set in a gorgeous location, the staff were kind and very helpful. We checked in in the evening and the young woman who checked us in spoke excellent English. The room was spacious and warm, the beds very comfortable. The onsen was wonderful and I was allowed to bath with my tattoos, I just had to wait till the evening as to not offend older guests, that suited me fine. I also had an early bath in the morning which was fantastic. The ramen restaurant down the road was great and Nikko is always a great place to visit, beautiful in autumn. I highly recommend staying at this beautiful ryokan.

I liked everything about the property.

Excellent facility, very comfortable room, beautiful gardens, nice touches every direction we turned. Very nice washing and soaking facilities, and very nice staff, in particular the receptionist/hostess, Mae. The room had a private bathroom with all necessities provided. It also had a wonderful sitting area with a view of the street and surrounding mountains.

I found the futon to be adequately comfortable. However, my wife found to be too thin, and she ended up taking the spare futon from the closet and doubling up. Also, we when we booked through Booking.com we did not specify that we wanted meals included, so we did not have access to what appeared to be an excellent restaurant which provided breakfast and dinner and was always packed by other guests. It took a while for that to sink in and we ended up finding a nice restaurant several blocks away which provided excellent dinners. However, finding breakfast was a challenge. If you book be sure to specify that you want meals included.

The staff were very kind and welcoming to me and my friend. Although we speak a little bit Japanese, they could also speak English very well. I was worried to be a burden with my Tattoos and did not want to bother the staff, but they also were very accepting. I went to the hot spring late in the evening and early morning to not bother anybody and it was great. The Hotel itself might be the most beautiful one in the area, I think. It is a small town but easily reached by train and bus, with a small supermarket close by. We also went to the Restaurant "Ikari" which was great! My experience here was very nice, I can only reccommend. Hope to be back here soon.
