What I Liked: The view from the lobby was absolutely amazing! It really sets a great tone as soon as you walk in. The room was super comfy, with a vibe that felt like a throwback to the 90s, which added a nostalgic charm. Perfect if you're into a retro aesthetic!

If you're expecting a fabulous, modern hotel, this might not be for you. However, if you're into a nostalgic vibe, it could work. The onsen is really nice, especially the outdoor bath, but the hours are only at night, which can be a bit annoying since you can't clean yourself in the morning. This was mentioned ahead of time, so no surprise there.

April 2024

This is a Japanese style Inn (Ryokon) with tatamai flooring in the eating area which is low to the floor ( Japanese style). The two twin beds are also low to the floor again (Japanese style) with a wonderful Japanese blanket. The space was very large and easy to move around. The 150 Yen per person per day fee for the public bath was well worth it. It's very Asian in design a large soaking area ( maybe 12 feet by 25 feet ) of warm water with little stools to sit on to wash yourself after soaking. It also has an outdoor soaking area but I went in April and the nights were cool so I didn't use the outdoor area. I must mention that the public baths are gender specific and everyone baths in the nude. I went every night at about 8:30 pm and was the only bather. There is a stand-up shower also available. The other best part of this Ryokon is the price. we stayed 4 days in Kinugawa at only $56 per night for two adults. What a bargain in Japan!!!!! Prices may vary depending on the season you visit and during the week is better than the weekend as many japanese come for a weekend getaway. Bath hours are only from 4 pm to 9:45 pm in the evening. I would retiurn here again without a second thought.

We had a wonderful experience. Nothing could have been better. !!!!!!!

The hotel was in a convenient location, walking distance from the train station (about 12 minutes) and nearby restaurants and shops. (We arrived on a National Holiday so many places were closed). We stayed in a Japanese style room with a tatami floor and bedding. The room was clean and comfortable with a beautiful view of the valley. The bathroom in the room does not have a shower, only a toilet and sink. The hotel needs some maintenance in general but the guest areas are clean and there are plenty of interesting things in the lobby (musical instruments, toys and a play area for kids). The best part of the hotel is the onsen (public bath), which is open in the afternoon only, from 4-9pm. It is separated into two sides (one for men, one for women). The staff were very friendly, and when we checked out, there were no taxis available so the manager offered to drive us to our next destination free of charge.

It needs some maintenance and there is no restaurant on site

Beautiful, very traditional ryokan in stunning location. Wonderful, peaceful, very large bedroom with amazing views. Onsen fantastic. Staff at reception very kind, friendly and helpful. Sadly I only had a short time here due to my itinerary, but would have liked to stay longer. Lovely atmosphere here and the childrens play area and music areas, as well as the handmade crafts gift shop, are lovely features. I hope you enjoy the Scotland books and thank you very much again for a lovely stay

Only that I couldn't stay longer because I needed to get back to Tokyo! I loved it, it was perfect!

Beautiful views, warm welcome, comfortable futon, and overall nice japanese style room. I loved the yukata that we received, and I was extremely happy with the onsen. The lobby area is very nice, i appreciated that we could leave the luggage there. The area itself is also very enjoyable and walkable, and the accommodation is also close to the station.

A little bit of smell on the hallways, a little bit more cleaning needed in the bathroom, but nothing serious, just my very high expectations.

the town of kinugawa Onsen is beautiful though a little hard to get to obu-Nikko area. We ended up taking a taxi there and the ride only cost us 5000 yen which was worth it. Otherwise its a cute town but not the destination in of itself.

Building is definitely a littled dated. The rooms were large for the price and the bathing facilities were also wonderful. Not the newest/cleanest room in the world but the bedding was all clean. Some stains in other places.

the property was in a good area. it is next to the river and 7 min walk from the station. I also really liked the outdoor onsen

the property was good overall but it was a little run down but to be honest the whole area was run down so the hotel fits in. the pillow was a little stiff but was okay to sleep on. also the onsen only opens at 4pm which would be annoying if you wanted to wash in the morning. but overall my stay was good! if you get cold in the night they can give you a portable heater which I got! the staff were very nice!

I loved the front desk staffs, they were so nice and thoughtful, when I checked out, one of the male staffs gave me candies and snacks too! I also loved the traditional futon bedding, so comfortable and cute!

The bathroom that came with my room smelled, it stinks almost. I had to repress my nose and challenge myself each time I take a bathroom break…

Very convenient to local shops and food. Room was a good size for myself and 2 others to sleep in. There was plenty of bedding provided and it was very clean. The view from the balcony in the room and the view from the lobby is one of the best features of this location!

The owners are the kindest, most welcoming and caring people I have EVER met! ^_^ The hotel has a super location directly on the fall, the public bath is amazing and the owners are extremely caring and knowledgeable about the local sightseeing, traditions and crafts (there's an amazing stand of hamd-made jewels amd hairbands that is recommended over ANY other souvenir shop I've seen in Japan so far)
