Exceptionally friendly staff, the onsen was great and it was tattoo friendly, room was exactly like the picture and was spacious + there was a massage chair. A quick walk to convenience stores and food spots. Additionally I got a 60-minute massage from there (I was so tired and sore from traveling) and the masseuse fixed up my shoulders and aching back.

I didn't get to experience the food in the restaurant as 5pm was too late to get food. I got in at around 3pm, and after I settled in I was too late to eat. Luckily there was food to get nearby. A couple of the settings in the massage chair didn't work. For the price ($181) I thought I had paid enough to have the personal onsen on my balcony, but that's my mistake for not checking clearly.

We stayed in the traditional Japanese room and enjoyed our stay. The room was large and featured two futons on the ground. The room had two outdoor areas, as well as a dining table and sitting table. There was a refrigerator and a hot water maker with tea cups and beverage cups provided. The room rate also covers use to the public hotel bath area which has two rooms divided by gender and features showers and a bathing area. Also covered is a full service breakfast and dinner each day. The staff was absolutely amazing and friendly. They also provide a ride to the train station around checkout time for those that need it. Other services included use to a private bath, spa services, and massages. Dinner time was 6 pm or 6:30 pm and breakfast was 8 am or 8:30 am. We would highly recommend Tsuganoki for a few days!

Very limited English speaking was available, especially at night when trying to book a massage time. Also had to walk 15 minutes to the location with tons of luggage on our arrival and would have appreciated an offer for a ride. Checkout was at 10 am, which can be difficult with a full service breakfast at 8:30 am. The private bath time was limited to a short 45 minutes despite having to pay 2200 Yen. I also paid 6000 Yen for a massage which was fairly robotic and cut a few minutes short.

A nice hotel located close to Nikko. The staff was extremely kind and polite. The room was very spacious and the futons were comfortable. We didn't try the restaurant, but the smell coming from the kitchen was amazing. The hotel has both public and private onsens. We opted for the private onsen and it was a fantastic experience. The private onsen is located on a terrace with a beautiful view of the mountains. On the last day, the hotel shuttle dropped us at the train station just in time for our next trip.

The hotel facade and some parts of the bedrooms need a lot of work. Our room's balcony was quite neglected. The town used to be a popular tourist resort, but it seems to have been forgotten at some point. I think the owners are trying to renovate the hotel, but it's still a work in progress. It is a pity because the hotel concept is quite good!

Arriving at the Hotel I was met by a receptionist who brought me into the lobby and introduced me to the desk staff . They in turn booked me in and showed me the facilities and told me all I needed to know about the hotel. I was then taken up to my room by a staff member who showed me around the room/apartment. Arriving for dinner I was shown to my table and was told about the menu and how to cook portions of my dinner . This was repeated at breakfast . The experience of staying in a traditional Japanese Hotel was amazing and this was due to the professional standard of the staff who were so friendly and welcoming . Special thanks to my dining room lady . From the moment I walked in till I walked out I felt I was given 100% customer care . Thank you for a very pleasant stay . Brendan Clarke

The staff were so nice. The room is clean. They provide skincare for women and not just hair dryer but also flat iron and curling iron. The onzen was clean. It separates men and women.

They do not have their own breakfast. You need to book breakfast in advance and walk to near hotel to have a breakfast. The onzen seems to open for other people not just hotel’s guests.

The distance is a bit far from the train station, walkable distance however

Incredible and spacious rooms and an onsen. Went here on our trip to Nikko. Located in Kinugawa onsen, It is one hour away from tobu nikko station. Service is incredible. It is highly recommended to book lunch and dinner during booking because they do not allow it during check-in. They even have private onsen.

The room was lovely. Traditional Japanese aesthetic. The location by the river made it a lovely place to walk from.

Didn’t get to try the food. I wish we could have been accommodated since it was several hours before dinner when we asked. Had to have buffet in Sunshine which was ok.

Staff were extremely friendly and the room was huge. Complimentary shuttle to train station. Private onsen option was available.

Lobby area appeared to have heavy water damage on ceiling, lots of black patches on roof, maybe black mould.
