I enjoyed my stay at Mustard Hotel. The style and atmosphere of the place was great. The staff were very helpful. The small cafe, bar and deck were very pleasant. It is a five minute walk to Shimokitizawa following the path of the railway line which has now been run underground. The hotel wasn't more than a few minutes walk to the new shopping area, restaurants and Tsutaya Books. The Troubled Peach, Mother and Heaven's Above are all nearby. A big arigatou gozaimasu to the guy running the cafe who found my dropped passport. Subarashi deshta. Shimokitazawa is getting trendier everyday but still keeps its originality. I think it was better twenty years ago but I would. It is a great place if you haven't been before. Be a polite visitor.
Shimokitazawa station is further away and it is slightly uphill to the hotel. A point to remember if you are dragging bags. The nearest railway station on the Odakyu Line is actually Higashi Kitazawa which is two minutes walk from the hotel if you ignore Google Maps and use your intelligence instead.

So quiet in a little residential neighborhood. Coffee shop downstairs is insanely good and open at 7am, a Lawsons and a Family Mart are close by in walking distance if you're in need. There are tons of incredible places to eat in this area and in walking distance to many, many more. The hotel is situated between 2 train stops that can take you to Shinjuku or Shibuya station in 10 minutes or less where you can pretty much get anywhere from. If you are big on walking there are many pedestrian/bicycle only paths and small side streets to get to parks in the area or surrounding neighborhoods. Check in was easy and wasn't invasive or complicated. There is a water bottle filling station, a microwave and washing machine in the common area of each floor. The room was essentially a bed and a desk with a closet area as was to be expected, but not cramped. Bathroom was clean and the water pressure and temp were great. It was perfect, peaceful and quiet place after a long day exploring Tokyo. The hotel held my bags after check out while I spent my last day walking around before heading to the airport. It was about a $50 USD cab ride to and from the hotel to Haneda Airport. The hotel was clean and quiet, incredible location and helpful staff. Highly, highly recommend.
I wish I could've stayed longer!

The hotel left an excellent impression! Its location is a true gem: a quiet, cozy street in the heart of a trendy hipster district with plenty of atmospheric spots nearby. The building's architecture is stylish and modern, and the interior is thoughtfully designed, creating a sense of comfort and elegance. A special mention goes to the staff: incredibly friendly and attentive, always ready to assist with any request. Another highlight was the on-site coffee shop. They serve high-quality coffee made from premium beans, and guests enjoy a nice discount. An ideal choice for those who appreciate comfort, style, and attention to detail!

We LOVED the location because it was in the coolest area with a very short walk to many restaurants suiting many different tastes and pockets. Its location was also quiet and a hub for hotel guests and locals to share a coffee on the terrace or a drink in the bar. We had a huge room with a balcony. It was so comfy too. Sure it’s showing a bit of wear and tear (comments from other reviewers) but if, like us, you enjoy laid back cool vibes (even in your 60’s) and great food plus the station is so close to go and enjoy the rest of Tokyo at your leisure, this is the place for you!

I’m thrilled to have chosen this hotel as my first stop on my Japan trip! It left me with a fantastic impression of the country. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, and their English proficiency made my stay even smoother. The room was clean and cozy, providing a perfect retreat after a day of exploring. I particularly appreciated their assistance with luggage delivery and calling my next hotel to confirm my reservation, especially since I don’t speak Japanese. Shimo-kitazawa is a delightful area—spotlessly clean and with a relaxed vibe. Staying here instead of the busier Shinjuku or Shibuya truly enhanced my experience. If you’re planning a trip to Japan, do yourself a favor and book this hotel. You won’t regret it!

Mustard Hotel Shimokitazawa is a trendy, minimalistic-styled hotel that takes inspiration from traveller hostels. Great location, walking distance to Shimokitazawa shopping and restaurants, but set a bit off the main drag to take advantage of the peace and quiet of the newer developments that appear to have been constructed above the underground train line. Our room was quiet and surprisingly spacious (compared to other accommodation in and around Tokyo) with a generous shower space. Bed was comfy and staff were very friendly and helpful. Loved having the record player in our room to listen to some music at the end of the day. Higashi-Kitazawa station and Shimo-kitazawa station were both very close, so it was very easy to see other parts of Tokyo using the trains.

Location was awesome, down a pedestrian walkway and in a relaxed arty neighbourhood. The hotel had a clean, modern aesthetic, sidewalk cafe and laundry facilities, and short walk to train stations and food options. All staff spoke English which was helpful. Also recommend visiting the little local onsen a short walk from the hotel for an experience.
I feel a little more effort could have been made to create another 'hang out' area on 2F, near the laundry machines..a few more vending machines with snacks and places to sit while waiting for your washing. The rooms are small, so its nice to have somewhere other than than the foyer for a break from your travelling companion, if only for an hour or so! Other hotels had travel books, a travel message noticeboard, and tables for eating snacks or takeout food. There was a microwave and one vending machine but little else in an empty space.

Very nicely designed lobby with cafe and bar. The hotel is located in a lovely neighborhood with many restaurants, bars and vintage shops around. Also really liked the options to rent vinyls for the room.
Guests put dirty towels in front of their rooms if they want them exchanged. Would be better to offer bags where they could be placed to have a cleaner corridor in the mornings. On the lower floor, the rooms seem a bit like in a sous-terrain as the windows are just at the top.

The staff were friendly and extremely helpful when I needed recommendations for food around the neighborhood or help with the luggage delivery. The hotel's location is absolutely perfect, in a lively neighborhood that is less busy than the more famous Tokyo neighborhood, but still had a lot to offer and easy access to central locations. The hotel itself is on a very quiet pedestrian street, not in the middle of all the hustle and bustle near the station, but not too far from the station either. A perfect spot. The breakfast bagel and coffee were superb. I also enjoyed the room which was just the right size for a solo traveller, and the shower was good too.

The location is great, very close to 3 train stations! The younger part of our group loved all of the thrift stores in Shimokitazawa. The lobby of the hotel has a cool vibe and we enjoyed the cafe very much. The real star of our stay was the awesome staff. They were so kind and accommodating! They helped us with umbrellas, borrowing a wheelchair, getting medicine that we accidentally left in our room after checking out, arranging transport and more!! Plus loved the PJs!
Rooms are tight if you have larger luggage but I think that it is pretty normal in Tokyo. We would have loved some shelves and a luggage rack.
