The rooms are lovely, with a sleeping area and a sitting area. I also really liked the fact that there are air purifiers in each room. The private bath on the first floor is great, and the lounge area on the first floor is also very nice. The staff are helpful. Asakusa location makes it very easy to access shops and restaurants, but the area can be very crowded.

The bathroom is very small, and the sink is in the shower area. You have to turn the faucet from shower to sink mode, but you have to be very careful not to spray yourself with shower water when turning off the water to the sink.

Location in center of Asakusa with many bars and restaurants around, short walk to metro. Very friendly staff with surprisingly decent english (very rare in Japan in my experience). Small but comfortable room with four futons on the floor. Although this place has no dining option nor breakfast, there is large sitting area with tables where one may rest and learn provided origami or caligraphy - nice touch.

This is not a real Ryokan like we’ve seen in other places, but rather a boutique hotel with some classic features. Price was inadequate to value, but this is Tokyo. Also bath concept strange where one books 30 minutes time slot in advance.

It certainly was an authentic experience that can't compare with that of a bigger chain hotel. It is located right at one of the most popular tourist spots in Tokyo (Asakusa shrine). The bathroom is rather small but clean and has all of what's needed. Hot water filled up every day for tea in thermos bottle.

It may not fit the concept, but something like a bigger chair with backrest would be cool to relax during the day. Also, while the location can be seen as an upside, be prepared for masses of tourists at this spot especially in peak season (no worries: in the night it gets calm enough and is not loud).

The man that is at the front desk is extremely kind to foreign guests and communicates to the best of his ability in English. He even took a picture of me outside of the hotel in front of one of the towers that you can see from the street leading up to the hotel. I got the traditional room with the tatami mats and bed. I was surprised how comfortable it was. And the location is right next to Sensoji, so it was nice to be able to just walk right to it from the hotel.

There was nothing wrong with my stay. The only possible negative would be that the bath is not an Onsen, but that is clearly stated in the description. But you should also be aware to listen for the telephone if you have reserved a bath time because it is a little quiet and you could miss it. But even if you do miss it like I did, he will just schedule the time after it.

Location is fantastic, stone's throw from Senso-ji and Asakusa Station. The half-hour private bath is wonderful. Room very spacious for price with comfortable futons and traditional feel. Staff very knowledgeable about local sights and food, and very accommodating to foreigners and incredibly helpful. Excellent value for money.

Bathroom slightly cramped, views from room so/so. There is (as advertised) no breakfast or other food on site, which detracts a little from the ryokan experience, but there are many excellent and affordable restaurants nearby that the staff pointed out to us.

Our stay at Ryokan Kamogawa Asakusa was a genuine Japanese retreat. The traditional room exuded tranquillity, featuring a comfortable futon bed for a restful sleep. The front desk staff was incredibly friendly, going above and beyond to assist us throughout our stay. We particularly enjoyed the common area, offering free drinks and traditional Japanese games. Overall, the hotel provided an authentic and memorable experience, perfect for those seeking a taste of Japanese hospitality. Highly recommended.

the bathroom was on the smaller side, which proved a bit inconvenient

Very friendly staff, also english speaking. Accomodating to already leave luggage prior to the (strict) earliest check-in time and to register a private time slot for the onsen at the premises. The common room downstairs is nicely equiped with Japanese crafts to try out (caligraphy, origami), as well as free coffee and tea. The nice traditional Japanese rooms are exactly as expected.

Nothing really. If I had to mention something; there is no breakfast facility with the ryokan, as also mentioned, but this is not a concern, as the neighborhood is abundant with places to eat.

The Japanese style bath which we could reserve was great! Location is beautiful and the staff were very friendly. Was great to stay for the first time at a Ryokan! Futon was comfortable and room was lovely. Also great location for visiting Senso-ji after dark when it's considerably less crowded than it is during the day.

It's really minor, but the Ryokan is located in a very busy, central area of Tokyo which made travelling to and from the subway station with our luggage a hassle. The crowds might bother some people but I didn't mind. Overall our stay here was fantastic and I would recommend it.

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (5/5) Staying at Ryokan Kamogawa was an enchanting experience that seamlessly blended traditional charm with modern comforts. As a solo female traveler, I was initially concerned about safety, but the warm hospitality of the staff immediately put me at ease. The allure of a private bath was the initial draw, and it exceeded expectations. The post-bath ice pops were a delightful touch, providing a refreshing conclusion to a relaxing soak. The futon bed, a staple of Japanese tradition, offered a surprisingly comfortable night's rest. The ryokan's location in the heart of the Asakusa shopping area was a significant advantage. With its proximity to diverse dining options, including tantalizing ramen, soul-warming udon, and savory gyudon, the culinary adventure was as enticing as the cultural one. What truly sets Ryokan Kamogawa apart is its staff's exceptional hospitality. Their genuine warmth and eagerness to ensure a memorable stay left an indelible impression. I'm already planning a return visit for a more extended stay, a testament to the ryokan's allure and the magic it weaves for its guests.

Room & Bed: The room was more rustic than modern/stylish but charming. It was what we had expected of a traditional ryokan and we liked it, since there was everything available what we needed. The Tatami mat sleeping/living area was spacious and clean and we had enough space to store our luggage of two standard sized suitcases. The futons were comfy enough to sleep well during our stay. Bathroom(s): The bathroom in our room was split in a toilet and a second room with washbasin/shower combo. Both rooms were very narrow. For us it was ok, since we are both small in height and size but for bigger people it might be an issue. Tall people (1,80m+, I guess) most likely bump their knees against the toilet door during their business. Bigger people could have issues to move around in the bathroom area. However, there is a private bath you can reserve for 30 min and which we can highly recommend, even in summer (reserve well in advance). There is plenty of space to wash yourself and shower and afterwards you can soak and relax in the bathtub. You get a bit of an onsen feeling. We loved the private bath! Location The Ryokan was located near Asakusa Station (~ 5min by foot), very central in Asakusa near Kaminarimon gate. Although it was located in a relatively quiet side street you can still hear noises from the more busy streets at night (possibly it was supply traffic for the nearby stores around Nakamise-dori) . However, if you like staying very central near a tourist hot spot and directly in the bustling area around Kaminarimon, we can highly recommend this Ryokan. It was top-notch for our last days in Japan since we wanted to shop and there are a lot of shops and restaurants nearby. Host / Staff We met several staff during our stay and everyone was very friendly and helpful and all spoke good English.

Nothing the hotel can do anything about, but be aware that there are noises from the streets at night, since the Ryokan is located very central near Nakamise-dori and other streets with plenty of shops and restaurants. So if you're a bad sleeper this might not be your best choice.
