LOVED this place, one of my favorite places I stayed in a month long trip to Japan! The room was fantastic, and even had a lovely view of a little rooftop garden right outside my window. The location was fantastic, with everything you could need nearby, including late night food options. Lots of really authentic family owned businesses in the neighborhood, and a great combination of old/historical spots with quick access by bus or train to more modern spots like the Skytree. Really great for anyone who loves Showa era retro vibes- make sure to check out Silk Road coffee and Kissaten Cisz for great old school authentic coffee and small bites. The bed was SO comfortable, probably the best bed I've ever had in Japan. It was huge, with comfortable pillows and a soft mattress. The room was small but perfect for one person, maybe 2 with limited luggage. Beautiful views out of 2 large windows made the room feel more spacious. Spotlessly clean, great A/C and heat control, and really kind staff. I didn't use the public baths but they looked great and the shared bathrooms were very clean. Nice little kitchenette area with free coffee, tea, hot water, and snacks in the lobby. Absolutely no complaints!

An old style ryokan (80 years old, in the family for four generations) located in a quieter part of Tokyo, well within walking distance of a subway station. The place may not be as luxurious as ryokans in prime locations, but the staff makes up for that tremendously with excellent hospitality.

The location was in an interesting lively part of Tokyo. Easy access to the excellent public transport system. Walking distance to Ueno Park. The hotel is really old style ryokan. My old body would have liked a little thicker futon. The bath facility made up for that. Huge soaking tub! Rooms were cleaned new towel every day!

I don't like glaring over head light. Lamps are a rare convenience in down price accommodations. I forgot to bring my headlamp. Highly recommend to bring one. The concierge suggested a place to buy one and I found one there.

Extremely hospitable staff with fantastic attention to housekeeping. The rooms are cozy and enough for your bags to open fully and stack multiple pieces too. There are also multiple bathrooms across floors which helps if the one in your room is engaged. While we didn't use it, I think they also have a shared bathroom with a shower for rooms that don't have bathrooms. And everything is extremely clean! They also have a cute little lounge with probably the best hot cocoa and snacks I have had in a long while. They were extremely kind and helpful from the moment we stepped in. They don't allow outside slippers inside the room which I think is a great tradition to stick to. They are a short walk away from Sensoji and the vibes are a 10/10.

The bathroom in our room was extremely compact.

I had an absolutely wonderful stay at Sakura Ryokan during my visit to Tokyo ! The traditional tatami room was both charming and immaculately clean, offering a perfect blend of comfort and authentic Japanese culture. The ryokan’s location was nestled in a peaceful area, yet conveniently close to key transportation hubs, making it incredibly easy to reach all of Tokyo’s major attractions. Whether it was exploring the historic Asakusa district, the bustling streets of Shinjuku, or the serene Meiji Shrine, everything was just a short ride away. Overall, my experience exceeded all expectations, and I would highly recommend Sakura Ryokan to anyone seeking an unforgettable and authentic stay in Tokyo. I can't wait to return!

It was very nicely located, at 7 minutes from a train station. It has some western style rooms and Japanese style rooms so we can enjoy and try the different styles. It does have a lot of facilities such as private and public bath, laundry machine, a « lounge » for common use with water and food. The staff is really nice and friendly.

The « Ryokan » style room I had was unfortunately dirty, the wall and the sliding doors had obvious dirt on it. I believe it to be hard to clean but even then, it was a bit disappointing. Also, the room isn’t soundproof at all as I could hear the neighbours laughing and even talking, which woke me up.

It's about 5 minutes from the nearest metro station, there are a couple around. Convenient location for exploring Asakusa, everything was within walking distance, also some restaurants around. Quiet area. Loved the bath, even though some people clearly didn't understand how to use the sign vacant- occupied. The ryokan has a small common area with water snacks and a microwave if you want to heat up something. Family Mart and another take away place are right around the corner. Room is not big, but since I traveled alone it was not a problem. Not sure how it works for two people though.

A lovely selection of tea, coffee and snacks available in a common lounge to help you relax after a long journey Excellent common bath with a hot soaking bath. You just need to wait your turn to use it. Beds quite comfortable & blanket very thick. Even in winter we didn't need to turn on the room heating.

There is a separate women's bathroom but it's not as nice as the common bath because it doesn't have a preheated bath like the other bathroom, and it's downstairs and quite cold. The heater was a thoughtful touch though and it's otherwise a good option if the other bathroom is in use.

There is no breakfast provided but small eating places and konbini are in abundance so it is fairly easy to find breakfast. there is a great social room where you can get coffee, tea, biscuits, chocoloate milk, and other snacks freely and you can warm your food from the konbini using the microwave There is also a great bath / onsen for private use and you can leave you luggage upon checkout until 6pm for free at the counter

There are no points worth mentioning that I did not like

I really enjoyed my stay! It was my first time in Japan, and I stayed solo in one of the elegantly designed Japanese-style rooms with its unique atmosphere. The futon was supremely comfortable for me! The place was also very homely, even in the common areas. On top of that, there were complimentary snacks available all day. Also, they let me leave my (considerable) luggage, and, although they didn’t give me an early check-in, when I arrived a open hours early the room happened to be already ready, and they were happy to give it to me. The price was extremely affordable, but it didn’t feel like a budget experience! The place was extremely clean, everything worked fine and was well-maintained, the common areas were simple but homely.. The location was also very convenient for sightseeing in the eastern and central parts of the Tokyo area. The area was a nice urban residential neighborhood (not high-rise), and it seemed no worry to walk back late (though I may not be the most perceptive for such things!). A wonderful stay; I’d definitely come back again.

I can’t think of anything I didn’t like! The only caveat is that the bathtub in the private bathrooms are very small (if you’re used to the US). I had to adjust and get used to it. But you could also check out the other shower options they have to see if they suit you better. Overall, I enjoyed it and would stay there again a second time!
