Amazing place, locations, rooms , staff and service was outstanding. Food in restaurant was also superb, my compliments to all the Sepilok Team for making my short stay a truly wonderful experience. The place is in the rainforest, so do expect insects and wildlife around, this should not be suprising, its a amazing place to get away from the city life. Thank you to everyone at the Sepilok Nature Lodge again, hope to see you all again soon :)

Loved it all

The rooms were clean and comfortable. The location is good and the grounds are nice.

I did not like that they insisted we have to have two rooms. We are a family with two small children and they insisted we could not all fit in one room. Because of limited options in the area, we booked two rooms as they insisted but upon arrival the rooms and bed accommodations were clearly large enough for us all to comfortably be in one room. I understand person limits for adults but for a family, I feel like this should be at our discretion.

Clean room with good bathroom fixtures, lush setting with all kinds of trees and shrubbery. You can even see orangutans at the top of the trees on the hotel property! Location is walking distance to the Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Center, and not far from the Rainforest Discovery Center.

It is the jungle, so you might see ants near the bathroom sink area, but no big deal. We used a bit of insect spray and it worked well. Not a problem, and expected as we are surrounded by nature with gorgeous trees everywhere. Restaurant food is okay, though a bit pricey, maybe because there are limited restaurants nearby.

The lodges were really spacious, comfortable and clean. They were well sealed and I didn’t have any insects etc in the lodge. There was even a bath! The staff organised a couple of trips to help make the most of my (just under) 48h there. I enjoyed the night walk starting at the rainforest discovery centre and would highly recommend the boat trip on the Kanibatangan river - loads of wildlife to be seen! The Sun Bear and Orang Utan conservation centre are just 5 minutes walk away.

There is WiFi in the public areas only. The food was fine but not amazing. However it is easiest to eat there as there aren’t really any nearby alternatives for an evening meal

November 2024

The property is within 5 minutes walk of the sun bear and orangutan sanctuaries and within 30 minutes walk of the rain forest discovery centre. The grounds are beautifully natural and it is quite clearly a large/medium size establishment but when we were there in mid November ( admittedly low season) only 4-5 of the individual “chalets” were actually occupied. We ate one evening meal ( beef rendang) and one breakfast there ( omelette and local fruit plus coffee) and the quality of the food was pretty good especially the rendang and prices were around £6 for the evening meal and £5 for breakfast with the Tiger beer ( small can ) around £3.

Shower a little temperamental and you have to push a button and wait 5-10 minutes for water to heat up but when it does it doesn’t last long. There is a swimming pool planned but not sure when this will be ready Nice to sit in bar/terrace area and look out over lake This is a brilliant place if you want to base yourself near the two rehab centres for the bears and orangutans as allows you to just walk down the road and we went to both the afternoon and morning sessions at the orangutan centre Not so great if you want to see Sandakan as it’s a fairly decent taxi ride from here back into town

- Room was absolutely beautiful! Can’t remember seeing many / any photos of the inside when booking so was pleasantly surprised - Food at the restaurant delicious, couldn’t get enough of the breakfast rotis - 5 minute walk to the orangutan and sun bear centers which was ideal, the close proximity meant we were lucky enough to catch 4 sightings of orangutans on the property during our 3 night stay, including one mother and child on one of the walkways! Honestly an incredible experience and so much cooler seeing them from the comfort of a hammock than standing with the crowds at the orangutan center at feeding time All in all a perfect three days to round of our honeymoon in Borneo

Incredible location bordering orangutan sanctuary meant we saw an orangutan in a tree within 2 minutes of checking in and another roaming the hotel grounds the next morning. Good balance of feeling within the jungle whilst some creature comforts. Restaurant offers both good value and tasty food - we went room only and spent about £100 total on 2 x breakfast, 1 x lunch, 2 x dinners and drinks (including a few beers). Fridge and AC in room both v welcome! Hammock a nice touch. Beautiful grounds though be aware works are underway to build a pool - though didn’t disturb our stay.

Just need to be prepared for the natural consequences of being in the jungle - lots of insects, including cockroaches in the room, probably unavoidable. Hot water in the shower not the most reliable.

Lodge in georgeous surroundings on a long pond or oxbow, situated in (primary) forest. The rooms are high quality, and quite luxurious. Consist of large individual chalets which are totally private. Well equipped aircon, hot water, bath tub facing the pond The restaurant has a deck and tables and also a seating area. (There is also a large upstair lounge which didn't seem to be in use). Food was good, though a little hit and miss. Some choices were delicious for our tastes while others were not. Mostly the more local choices are best. Alot of wildlife in the grounds of the hotel which is adjacent to and part of the rainforest. We saw a couple of orang, plus lizards, multiple birds just on the walk to breakfast!! It's also just a 5 min walk to the Orang and Sun Bear sanctuaries. Bfast quality is good Prices are a little high but reflect the luxury of the resort. Quite reasonable for a 3-4st hotel. Food is good value - 3meals incl 2 alcohol drinks at dinner cost total of $74 Service quite ok, not too slow. They are in process of expanding adding smaller hotel-style rooms and a pool. Didn't disturb our stay.

No help w bags long walk path during check in - would be appreciated.

The absolutely beautiful, clean and comfortable chalets, the tranquil natural setting with wild birds and other animals to watch, the fig trees growing around the wooden walkways, the food, the ideal proximity to the Orangutan and Sunbear rehabilitation centres!

The portions in the restaurant could have been bigger, we repeatedly had to order multiple dishes to feel full despite not being large/ eating normally. However, quality was delicious! The confusion with the name, given the proximity of Nature Lodge Sepilok, led to us being dropped off at the wrong Lodge and having to walk. Just stick to the name with Resort. :)

We had a wonderful stay for 2 nights. The staff were very friendly and helpful, assisting us with booking trips for fireflies and a nighttime walk at the Rainforest Discovery Centre at great rates. The rooms were spacious, well-maintained, and featured a lovely tub to soak in. The location is perfect, just a 3-minute walk to the orangutan and sun bear sanctuaries, making it convenient to return for the 3pm orangutan feeding, after the morning one. Surrounded by nature, we were lucky to spot some orangutans while walking around the resort & a hornbill.

While the dinner was good, breakfast was disappointing. It was quite expensive for what it was and did not meet the same standard. The biggest downside was the construction of the new pool, which will be ongoing until June 2025 and starts from 8 am to 4 pm. This really took the edge off a great stay. Otherwise, it would have been a near 10/10 stay for us.
