We had reservations at a smaller hotel, which I was very central and charming, but quite old, and was suffering from broken water pipes. We moved to Palacio Maya after the first night on the basis of recommendations from friends. We were given a spacious junior suite with balconies off both the living and bedroom. The pool and grounds were cinematic . Breakfast was tasty and ample.

The location took some "getting used to." Our previous hotel had had better access to the center, and Palacio Maya is several blocks from any coffee houses, restaurants or shops. But we quickly recalibrated our expectations and were eventually grateful for the extra exercise.

Great room, bathroom, space. Couch, AC, your own coffee machine, mini fridge, everything.

A bit far to walk to the centre. Also the staff is not there for 'tourists'. If you want to know for example how to join a free walking tour or go to Uxmal, they sadly don't know. But if you need room cleaning or something, they can fix it instantly. Just no knowledge about what's outside the hotel.

The main thing for us (50+ couple) is that the room is a decent size (enough to have 2 cases open on the floor) nicely decorated, clean, and that we feel safe and comfortable. All boxes ticked. Room was great. We used the pool. Staff friendly and helpful. Wifi and aircon great. We booked a room with a balcony but were put in a room with no balcony. The staff thought they were doing us a favour as the room with the balcony had a smaller bed. We didn't mind this and asked for the balcony room and they moved us. The hotel is a 15 minute walk from the main central plaza (Plaza Grande).

We didn't like the random change in costs for ordering room service. We ordered 2 club sandwiches and chips/fries one night and the cost of the fries almost doubled when we ordered on the second night. Check the price before ordering.

Basically we liked everything about this hotel. The hotel is super clean and very well maintained, both in the common areas and in the rooms. The garden and pool are super nice and relaxing. The room had a great area and was always meticulously clean (the cleaning service even made cute sculptures with the bath towels!). The bed was very comfortable (just a little too high for what we are used to). The wifi is excellent. The location is perfect, quiet and easily walkable to the centre. For those who rent or have a car, the hotel offers free parking for guests.

The pool area is super nice and naturally there is a bar next to it, however there was never anyone to serve you a snack or a drink. Several times my husband had to go into the hotel to call someone. One day the pool was full of guests, everyone wanted to drink/eat something but there was anyone... I really think it's a shame to have a pool full of guests and never have anyone available for the bar service next to it :|

Modern, clean, spacious room and bathroom. Fridge. Pretty garden with peacocks. Hammocks and loungers by the pool (although we didn’t use them). Room cleaned promptly with amusing touches left by the maid (eg towels turned into animal shapes). It’s quite a long walk to centre but that’s ok, but a good half hour walk from either bus station though. Plenty of coffee shops locally for breakfast and a very reasonably priced laundry nearby for a one-day service. Hotel is on a busy road but it’s quiet inside.

Reception staff didn’t seem friendly, unlike other places we’ve stayed in Merida and didn’t really even acknowledge us until we checked out. We had a double room but only one chair on the balcony, only one glass, and on one day only one bottle of water. There’s a coffee maker but no coffee provided.

The property was super clean and the staff very warm and friendly. There was a relatively big, beautiful and cozy garden area, and we spent some time at the pool as well. We really enjoyed our stay here.

You must walk a little bit in order to reach the more lively central restaurant area but then again it means the property was in a more calm area and we could not hear any music in the night time (which we preferred). We walked to the property from the central area later in the evening after dinner and it was not a long walk. Also, the balcony we had in our standard room was quite small and there was no space for two people but would consider this as a minor issue since our stay otherwise was wonderful.

The location was just off the tree-lines street of Paseo Montejo, walking distance to many restaurants and shops. Out room was quite large and very clean and had really comfortable beds. It was facing the west so we were treated to a stunning sunset every night. The garden was beautiful and clean, with hammocks and little tables and chairs scattered among the trees.

The only thing I can think of is that I couldn’t find any pool towels by the pool.

- The location was quite close to city centre - The nearby area was quite - Free parking available - There were 2 comfortable beds in the room, which was also quite spacious - The garden area was great, with a nice pool, several trees including a mango one, flowers, 2 peacocks, and a nice sitting area with benches and swings

- The door leading to the balcony was a bit harder to close, someone might leave it open by mistake - Sometimes it did take about 1 minute for the shower hot water to be available, but this was not really an issue as the weather outside was hot so a cold shower was really usefull

hot water was hit and miss. It would be nice if they offered an alla carte menu for breakfast instead of just the buffet. Balcony was very tiny with one chair right next to the neighbors balcony so pretty useless

The beds are very comfortable! Two great A/C units. The location is close to everything yet just a short safe walk away from the busy areas so it was nice and quiet. The peacocks, hammocks and grounds were spectacular! The staff was very friendly and accommodating. Our limited Spanish was no problem at all. The parking was spacious and secure. The two balconies looking towards the center of town overlooking their beautiful gardens were amazing! This is our 4th time to Merida and this was our favorite hotel by far.

A really minnor issue was that we got the 2 room suite with a kitchenette and dinning room table with chairs, but there was no microwave, plates or silverware. But the restaurant borrowed us plates and silverware so that was cool. Pro tip: Next time we will buy throw away plates and silverware and make our vacation even better not having to do dishes.
