Hosts: genuine, warm, considerate and organised! Butch and Sharyn care for their guests and this is one thing that sets them apart. They made sure we were comfortable, they've given us some ideas and recommendations of places to visit. The breakfast - both continental and cooked was top notch - quality and service. The couple welcomed my family as though we've been friends before. House: amazing location, quiet and accessible. No issues with parking. The rooms were spic n span. Everything had a place. Beds were made professionally and the sheets, linens, pillows, towels, looked and smelled clean and fresh!!! They even had biscuits, good brands of tea and coffee, books for the wee ones, bikes to borrow, hot tub and the fur friends Millie and Milo and Coby were very friendly and well- trained. Communication: clear, timely and polite. Cleanliness and the overall quality and customer service were excellent!

The Hosts, Sharyn and Butch are exceptional people, friendly, treating everyone with respect and sincerity. their willingness to share their knowledge of the community contributed greatly to our appreciation of Hokitika and surrounds. Rarely have we experienced such hosts in our travels over the years. Their breakfast is likewise generous, as well as being efficient for those keen to get an early start on their way. Same day personal laundry service, as well as use of outdoors drying area was an added benefit. Easy walking access to the center of town. Home and gardens were extremely well looked after. People with great Pride in what they do. Well organised! Nice sitting room upstairs.

Whew...what's not to like/love with this wonderful B & B? Probably the most nicest B & B that I have ever stayed at due to owners who are attuned to details about the cleanliness as well as assisting guests. Also fun to be greeted by their loving little dog every time I returned from an outing. Short 10 minute walk into town-serene and flat. Other guests were interesting to meet. I was in a room with a private bath which I prefer. I also stayed 1 night at their cottages next door which were equally as nice and quiet and had a washing machine in the unit. Very nice stroll to and on Hokitika beach and cute shops.

We so enjoyed our overnight stay at this very stylish and spotlessly clean B&B. We were made to feel right at home by hosts Butch and Sharyn who were very welcoming. Our en-suite room was spacious and tastefully decorated. The bed was super comfy with lovely soft pillows. Being on a quiet residential street, there was no outside noise. There are 4 rooms available upstairs, with a shared landing where there are sofas and a selection of teas, coffees, biscuits and milk for guests - a lovely touch. The breakfast was amazing - with hot options cooked to order by Butch, as well as cereals, toast, fruit, yoghurt, juice, tea & coffee. It really set us up for a day of walking! This is one of the best B&Bs we have ever experienced and we would not hesitate to book again if we return to the area. Thank you, Sharyn & Butch ☺️.

Nothing! Our only regret was that we couldn’t stay for longer!

Location was easy walking distance to the central city and had a great walk beside the river; our room was large along with a good sized ensuite. The upstairs lounge was great and contained a fridge that we could store our refrigerated goods and provided free fruit juice along with free coffee tea and biscuits. The bed was large and super comply and the included cooked English breakfast including the continental breakfast goodies was excellent. Sharon and Butch were the perfect hosts. Well done team and we will return.

I am tall and solid and our ensuite was big enough to accomodate a 1200 mm square shower rather than the 900mm installed which was still a very good size

The hosts are a very lovely couple who have been running this B&B for 24 years! Two of us stayed in a bedroom with a private en suite bathroom and everything was exceptionally clean. The bed was comfortable, the shower pressure was great, and there was an abundance of bath towels (such luxury). The highlight of our stay was chatting with the hosts while we enjoyed our delicious cooked breakfast (eggs, bacon, hash brown, tomatoes) (yogurt, cereal, toast, jam for days, fruit, tea/coffee/juice available too!). We only wish we had stayed longer than one night!

We had a perfect stay at Amberlea and would love to stay here again! It was our best stay during a 1 month trip in New Zealand. The room was nicely decorated and sparkling clean, the superb breakfast is a big plus and the garden is so beautiful! Sharyn and Butch are great hosts, with lots of experience and think about all the little details that make your stay memorable. They make you feel welcome and offer great recommendations for places to visit in this wonderful area.

Butch and Sharyn were so friendly and really made us feel welcome. The breakfasts were amazing and they went out of their way to make the time special and we saw how they waited up for other guests that were running late. Its home away from home

The only thing was we had a front room and there is an early morning train that passes by. Most mornings we were up before that so didn't really bother us, but may affect people who want a sleep in. My girls on the other side of the house never heard it.

There was nothing not to dislike the whole property has welcome everywhere you look just an amazing place to stay the hosts were there for us throughout our stay with helpful ideas for visits but in general they are fabulous people and are there for your every need

The hosts are incredibly nice and happy to suggest local sights to see and places to eat, if you ask. Breakfast was lovely and filling, cooked by Butch as I was eating - can't get fresher! The room was warm, cosy and had a view of the garden. There was an upstairs lounge (which I happened to never use) that looked really comfortable and home-y. The house is easy to find and if there's no parking on the property, there's tons of street parking.

Would have been nice to be able to get breakfast slightly later in the morning, in case one wants to sleep in.
