We enjoyed our stay albeit one night. The staff were excellent.

We understood that the breakfast was a Continental but were a little disappointed that if you wanted an additional cup of coffee or another piece of toast etc. you would have to pay extra for any additional items. We have travelled extensively throughout the world and can say that we have never had to pay extra for such additional items when having a breakfast described as ‘Continental’. Having said this it is only a minor criticism.

The service at Rutland Arms Inn is exceptional. Every member of staff we encountered during our stay were warm and welcoming. The love and care taken into restoring and updating the Rutland to still reflect its heritage is evident in every detail. The room we stayed in was lovely and spacious, we found the photos actually made the rooms look smaller than they really are. The surrounding areas are beautiful too.

Location was fantastic, good secure parking, very comfortable room. The evening meal we had was very good and the bar staff we friendly and helpful. Spa bath was a great unexpected bonus, as was the late checkout on our last day (but you have to ask for it).

Breakfast wasn't worth the effort, no chance to pick and choose as it was ordered from a very narrow list of options and came in the quantities they gave us- too much for me and not enough for my partner. The toast was cold. TV in the room was small and the remotes had nearly flat batteries.

I liked the dinner I had in the Restuarant and both my breakfasts where exultant, I ordered slightly form the menue but the staff met all my requirements without a problem. I can always tell if the kitchen is on task by my poached eggs, they were absolutely perfect both breakfasts I had.

the car parks need lines painted so we can park straight and leave space or other guests. once one car is out of line it reflects down the line

The room was amazing with the design of the rooms relating to time period of the Rutland Arms. Had plenty of room to walk around and the bed was very comfortable. The room was warm and at a good temperature. We ate in the restaurant for dinner, and it was great food. We had continental breakfast included which was so yummy and plenty that breakfast kept us going just about all day. Secure place to park your vehicle overnight too.

This is a lovely old Inn with an open fire in the bar/restaurant area. The staff were very accommodating. The room we were shown was large and beautifully decorated but the water radiator had sprung a small leak which we were not particularly concerned about as we simply turned it off as the room was warm in any event. But the owner insisted on changing our rooms and the room we were moved to was just as lovely. The meal was very good and the breakfast excellent particularly the kebble bread - yum. So close to everything. Definitely recommend this Inn.

There is nothing I did not like about this place.

Huge room, beautifully furnished, very clean. Excellent location, near river, shops and cafes. Friendly and helpful staff. Great having bar and restaurant downstairs. Guest lounge, sunny and warm, comfortably furnished.

No elevator to accommodation floor which was up three flights of stairs. Noise from bar and restaurant downstairs.

The atmosphere was lovely. We enjoyed the charm of the place. The lounge upstairs was really useful and nice to use. Parking was great. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The location was fantastic. It was great to have the restaurant downstairs.

The ants in our bedroom (no.4) - there were a lot of them. My cauliflower small plate at dinner could have been nicer - it had some powdered seasoning on it that over powered it and the cauliflower could have been roasted better.

Staff were very friendly and the free car parking was great. The food in the restaurant was good and the bar area was busy all day (weekend). Looks like the rooms have been renovated fairly recently, and were very clean and comfortable. We had a good view out over the street below and Durie Hill in the distance. Plenty of light, sky tv, hot shower and a comfortable bed. The continental breakfast was ample and served downstairs in the bar/restaurant area. Location is excellent, right in the heart of Whanganui, just off Victoria Street and close to the galleries, shops and cafes.

Not a complaint aimed at the hotel, but just a bit of advice regarding noise... We chose a busy weekend in Whanganui when there were a number of events happening in the area. There was a late night event on a few blocks away and the music, drums and fireworks were very loud and went on until the early hours. The following morning we were woken up early by loud banging as cordons were being set up on the road for another event. Not the hotel's fault at all, but perhaps check what's on in the area and if you are a light sleeper stay somewhere further out from the centre. The inside of the hotel itself was very quiet at night.

Loved the “old world feeling” of this totally renovated hotel, still keeping the ambience of an old historic building. Free car parking. The house keeper was delightful helping with luggage to our room. Bar and dining room downstairs fantastic, food great, dinner gave us the best waitress of our holiday, breakfast amazing, Love to come back!

Only one small thing, - no lift - but it is an historic building. Steep stairs at back of hotel, but staff will help if you ask.
