If you want a perfect experience in Madeira, the Saccharum hotel is by far the best choice you can make. Located approximately 35 km from Funchal, in Calheta, it offers an amazing view of the Atlantic Ocean and services worthy of its 5 stars. The room is very large, modern, with an enormous and very comfortable bed, and the balcony offers a superb view of the ocean. The entire hotel staff was very nice and professional. We appreciated the fact that our room was arranged twice every day, our towels were changed, and Lucy, the person who took care of our room, left us a small sweet gift on the bed every night. The breakfast is worthy of a 5-star hotel, extremely varied and with very good quality products. If we return to Madeira, Saccharum will definitely be our first choice! I warmly recommend this hotel!

Location, spa, pools and sun decks are all great. Rooms are cleaned not once but twice: morning and evening. Special thanks to the staff at reception who were incredibly nice and helped me arrange a transfer to Funchal on the day of the Flower Parade which I would have missed otherwise.

I didn't appreciate that the hotel's Fly bar that offers the best views on the ocean and the marina was booked for private events during both weekends that I was staying at Saccharum. Also, I wish the staff at the buffet restaurant were more attentive and friendly

beautiful hotel with a lot of luxury touches. particularly enjoyed coming back to our room each night to find the bed had been turned down and little ‘home made’ sweet treats placed on the pillows

Only faults I could find is that the car parking is €8/9 a night, but if you park outside on the road (sometimes being able to park even closer to the door than you can get in the car park) it’s free - didn’t make much sense to me! Also you really do need a car to stay here because it’s a distance from most things and there isn’t really any other worthwhile places to eat in walking distance, the majority of top rated restaurants are in Funchal which is a 30min drive away.

Can’t rate this hotel highly enough. From the greeting at reception from the wonderful friendly staff, to the room upgrade, the design and high standards of the whole hotel. Stunning infinity pool, simply amazing breakfast with the most choice and highest quality I’ve seen. Beds large and comfortable , large shower, turn down service, the view !! Ocean front room , I never wanted to leave !!

Location is okay if you’re staying around the hotel otherwise it’s pretty remote so you need a car

A perfect place to unwind. The service is optimum except the Fly lounge rooftop bar (see comment in the "Disn't like section). Mutlple swimming pools, bars and restaurants. The Premium service is a must and well worth the money: access to private sundeck, unlimited access to the spa, 10% discount on spa treatments, private lounge access with a la carte breakfast, in-room treats from bottle of wine, canapes, fruits platter, there's always something different every day, turn-down service, everything outlined in the Premium package is accurate and some more. I've read here some bad comments regarding the Alambique restraurant, let me contradict: the service is optimal, the food is tasty and well presented (the monkfish dish is a must try). The Trapiche bar/restaurant also offers great food for lunch after the morning at the swimming pool or the sundeck. Great spa service and facilities with everything you need with professional personal.

Here are a couple of constructive criticisms: 1. Please, do not put red wine in the fridge. Most red wine are to be consumed at room temperature. 2. The cocktails selections in the Fly lounge bar is disappointing. I don't understand why it's not possible to get a standard vodka or gin martini cocktail when the espresso martini is on the menu. And the service there is a let down: forget it to get someone to come take your order when sitting outside. 3. Please put some baskets around the pool and sundeck where to leave the used towels.

Great Hotel close to little beaches. Rich breakfast buffet and very comfortable room with balcony. There are different facilities that you can book in addition (SPA, Squash, Dinner) and some free facilities just a gaming room with table tennis, games, pool & table football. There is also a beautiful infinity pool on the top floor and several bars/restaurants. The hotel is very well located in the south and within 10 mins you reach a supermarket, padel courts, whale watch agency & pharmacy. The staff was always very kind and helpful.

They only thing we can say here is that the cleanness (especially the floor) was not great, but otherwise the room was always very well made. People booking this hotel also need to be aware that it is really a big hotel with plenty of rooms (242), something that you especially notice at the breakfast buffet. But otherwise it spreads quite well across the hotel.

We will be returning to this resort.

I wish the resort would had used a waterproof wristbands instead of the traditional card. That would be a game changer for this already perfect spot.

You need to pay extra money for the sun beds that is next to the infinity pool, and everything was like help yourself

Location is ideal if you are looking for isolate and quieter place to relax. Fewer food choices with only 5-6 food choices / restaurants around the area, but perfect if you are wanting a very quiet place to relax.
