This is one of the best hotels that we've ever been to. The hotel staff was super friendly to us and other guests, the location is amazing (exactly in the old town next to cozy restaurants and the promenade), the room was spacious and stylish, the breakfast was excellent, and the pool and the bar at the rooftop were also really pleasant. I only have nice things to say about the Barcelo hotel! Tip: If you're looking for a quick yet inexpensive way to get from the airport to the hotel, consider a shuttle bus that's right next to the exit from the airport. As of Oct 2023, it's just 5 euro per person (or 8 euro for a return trip), and it'll take you to a bus stop (number 6) that's really close to the Barcelo hotel. Note that they only accept cash in the bus.

Apparently it’s only been open since February so we’re we’re delighted to find it such an amazing hotel fright in the middle of the city. Great facilities and pool on the roof.

Our room was above a night club that had a licence to open 10pm until 4am! Yes really. Fri night was annoying but Saturday night I phoned reception at 1/4 to 3am and was offered another room for the rest of the night. Not something the hotel can change as it’s an old license but not fun to sleep above. Staff were quick to respond to my ph call and very apologetic as they are aware of the problem.

Very clean, nice staff, good breakfast, comfy beds, beautiful interior decor, right in the centre of the old town where there is so much more going on than in the other nearby areas. Would recommend, we stayed on the top floor at the back corner. It was noted as the quietest section of the hotel. Gym was also small but good, adequate for most workouts.

Could improve on a few more vegan options for breakfast.

This is the best hotel for the price in the whole Madeira. Best location you can find if you want some action and to reach everything easily in Funchal. I can say that we liked this hotel even more than the most expensive Savoy's in Funchal and Calheta. Less people, better food.

Please, do the rule that you can not put towels on the pool bed for the whole day... Some people just leave it for the whole day and it is impossible to find a pool bed to lay down.

Beautiful hotel with rooftop pool and nice interiors. Very kind and helpful staff.

You need to understand that this hotel is in city center close to rushy streets. If you keep your window open during night, then you can expect and rushy street noises at sooner morning hours - we had room on first floor on side toward street with local snack bar... There is no campus or hotel exterior areas. Parking is also not close to hotel. In best case you can park on seafront road - i.e. 100-150m far from hotel by walking.

Modern hotel in the heart of Funchal , walking distance to the main centre of old town, harbour and gardens , in particular to our rum festival Great view from roof top bar of the harbour and Funchal hills and centre- even though the pool was on a small side . We did not mind … Very helpful staff at reception Excellent choices of breakfast and omelette station with a friendly chef The bed was the most comfortable one I have stayed in a hotel too

We managed fine , our room was near the restaurants end , but if you are a light sleeper-Can be very noisy as it is in the centre of Funchal when bed room windows open, and even when windows closed -with bars and restaurants closing time and opening time , Bins being emptying ….

The skybar and pool on the roof are FAB! So relaxing to come back and enjoy the cold water with a view over the city and of course a glass of wine. The beds are huge and comfortable. Staff are polite, breakfast has everything you need and all the food is super fresh.

One day we had to move from the roof since there was an unannounced party. Even the bar closed for guests. This was a bit rude, especially regarding the price you pay for a night. And they do not have parking. If you do rent a car (advise to do so for discovering the island), you can park your car in Almirante Reis Car Park for 15 EUR a day, it's a 5 minute walk from the hotel.

The central location of the hotel was excellent, only a few minutes from bars, restaurants, shops and transport links. The room was clean, comfortable and modern and the maid service was regular. The breakfast was varied and very nice. The pool area and bar had exceptional views and there were no issues with reserving sunbeds.

We had a couple of issues with noise, on the night we arrived there was a rooftop party with extremely loud music which made it difficult to sleep after a day of travelling, however this was over by 11pm. The second was on our last night where we had an early flight the next morning, as this was weekend a late night bar had opened on the side street which is directly below some of the rooms. We were leaving the hotel at 3.30 for an early flight and the bar was still open and very busy! Although amazing, probably needed those extra touches for a 5 start hotel, for example the pool bar only had 1 staff member during the day so it would often take a long time to get served and they didn't have time to clear/ collect empty glasses.

Everything was absolutely perfect. People were really helpful. Location in the center of the Funchal, close to the port and the old town. Delicious breakfast, with a huge variety of products, fresh fruits, good coffee and some local dishes like bola do caco, bolo de mel, pastel de nata,too :) Moreover, there is really good restaurant for dinner in the hotel. Great roof-terrace with outstanding view and small swimming pool. Everything to help you relax during your stay on Madeira in one place :) I would definitely recommend it to everybody who wants to visit Madeira. Love it!!! ❤️ 12/10!!

The only small disadvantage is lack of parking, but you can find some place to park your car in streets in the neighborhood or in one of 24h parkings in the city. Nevertheless, it is worth staying there!

Location was perfect, I felt it was center of nightlife in Funchal. Every evening we heard nice calm music either from piano or some other artist playing outside. It was romantic and relaxing. We rented a car and the car park was very close to the hotel which was very conveniente. Parking was 15 euro for whole night. I can recommend Samart ForTwo Cabrio, managed to get us everywhere in Madeira. Staff at the hotel was amazing and very helpful. Breakfast was delicious and everything was available up until last minute of the breakfast. The air conditioning was very good but could be a little quieter On the roof was nice looking area with pool. Probably one of the best roof pools in Funchal. We haven't seen better during our stay at Madeira. It's not the cheepest, but definitly worth every penny

Basically cannot find any real disadvantages
