This hotel is wonderful. It was the second time I stayed in this hotel and it was as amazing as I remembered it. The rooftop pool is wonderful. Staff are very attentive. Most of them remembered our breakfast and drinks choices. The lighting system in the room was a bit complicated and we had we technical issues but each time we had a problem staff reacted super quickly.

Everything was so modern and clean and all the staff were incredibly friendly. The rooftop bar/pool area was amazing and it was in SUCH a good location. As a solo traveller, I felt very safe in this hotel and well looked after. Absolutely loved staying here and would recommend it to anyone.

There were no sockets near the bed which was annoying but I made do. Slightly pricey but for the location and facilities, it's worth the money

- Excellent location, very clean & things were in good condition. -The rooftop is really great - a lovely space to be in, comfy cushions on the sunbeds. - Liked that the bar here served food til 10pm, as we checked in very late on first night. - Service was so nice all the time - friendly, professional & timely. - Really good idea to have water fountain, for still and sparkling, on every floor so you can refill your own bottle. - Liked that it was free to use the steam room & jacuzzi pool in the spa area. - Really appreciated that we got a free upgrade. - While we were there, a new 'robot' waiter arrived, for helping to clear tables, & it was fun for staff & guests to figure out how it worked!

- Didn't like being charged €5 room service, to deliver a bucket of ice & 2 champagne glasses to our room. - Didn't like that the water glasses in our room were not changed every day, if there was some water left in them. - Didn't like that the refillable bottle for water was previously used (i.e. it was unsealed when we first used it) Who knows if a previous guest was drinking from the bottle or not! - Didn't like that you had to go to reception every time to get a pool, spa or gym towel, & that you had to go back there to change it! You should be able to do this in those areas, once you have your towel token. No towel, no token is perfectly fine, but not having to return to reception every time.

The vine was a lovely stay for a week!! We booked in advance on Booking.com and so got for a reasonable price. Location, staff and facilities were all amazing. They couldn’t have done enough for us. We were told on arrival that unfortunately the top pool wasn’t working so we would need to go to another hotel to use the pool facilities, at first I was really dissapointed however the hotel upgraded us to a junior suite to compensate, and ran taxis for free to and from the vine to the neighbouring hotel and the hotel with the pool was amazing and just as good if not better than the vines so we had no issue with doing this on sunny days. Honestly would stay again, has a great city vibe and lovely lovely staff that go above and beyond. It was the first holiday I have been on in years that was smooth and comfortable from start to finish. No complaints!

We love this hotel. The staff were absolutely amazing so helpful, friendly and extremely professional. We love the pool area. The bar staff are fun and friendly and the added bonus of the heated swimming pool gets our thumbs up!👍 The views from the pool area were amazing, looking out over the city. This was our first stay at the vine and we will most definitely be returning in the future. The bedrooms were decorated perfectly, and the large beds were super comfy. In our opinion. The balconies would benefit from a small table and chairs, so we could have enjoyed looking out onto the city from our room.  The restaurant and staff were superb, and we thoroughly enjoyed the fabulous wide range of food on offer at breakfast with the added bonus of Bella, the robot clearing away the dishes! 😂 Thank you to everyone at the vine for a wonderful holiday and an amazing stay. We will see you all in the near future.

We liked everything about the hotel, and if we were to give one comment it would be to add a small table and chairs to the balcony to enjoy sitting out looking over the city with a cuppa on a morning before breakfast.

The location of this hotel, right in the centre of Funchal above a shopping centre, is superb for eating out, history, shopping, park, etc. It is no surprise that the hotel has won prestigious design awards - it takes a little while to get used to the lighting but it is a lovely experience. The rooftop infinity pool and jacuzzi with bar area overlooking the town is great. Staff are excellent and very professional (also loved the robot waiter!). The breakfast buffet was among the best I have experienced in 50 years of extensive travel. The Vine may be a bit pricey but it is well worth the treat.

we were in the superior suite and it was clean, good size (had table chairs area) and very modern with a fabulous bath!! fabulous location being really close to the harbour and restaurants etc Rooftop pool bar area was great and had beautiful views! All staff were very friendly Breakfast was the best!!

for the money (expensive superior suite) it would have been nice to have a bigger balcony as there was enough room to stand outside but not to have a chair and sit it would be nice as ‘none coffee’ drinkers to have tea facilities instead (I’m sure if we had asked they would have done it to be fair)

The location was perfect. Right in old town and walking distance to the harbor. Parking was easy as they have a lot beneath the hotel. Very modern and clean. The pool was great and the view of the city from the pool was perfect.

The staff were a little strange. With few exceptions they were a little cold and largely seemed uninterested in your presence. Like I said, strange. The other odd thing was that the hotel is on top of a mall, so you had to enter the mall to get to the elevators up to your room. It wasn't a problem, but it was unexpected.

super location, within walking distance of everything Funchal has to offer. Great selection of breakfast treats and the rooftop pool and bar area were a splendid way to end a day’s sightseeing. Staff were impeccable - and managed to avoid the ‘stuffy’ feeling that 5* hotels sometimes convey. Must mention the bed too - super-comfy

Note to interior designers: Glass toilet enclosures are a quick way of killing the romance; and touch-sensitive light switches are impossible to navigate in the dark

The location is excellent; the facilities such as the rooftop pool, the spa, the gym are all superb; and the staff were all very friendly and helpful.

minor points but, given that this is a top class hotel they would be well advised to be slightly more generous with the amount of milk they provide in the rooms for your morning tea/ coffee. And the toilet paper provided was pathetic! Also, the room had a hugely complicated lighting system which was entirely unnecessary. And there’s really no need to have the bath exposed to the rest of the room!
