Virtually everything. Overall, the style and decor of the hotel was excellent. Our room was great, with a lovely view over the market square, a large comfy bed and lots of storage space. Spacious bathroom. Plenty of choice for breakfast with several egg options (Benedict etc.), the full Cumbrian and veggie alternative, smoked salmon, smoked haddock. We ate in one night and were not disappointed with a shared starter of haloumi fries, roast pork Sunday lunch and seafood tagliatelle. Very tasty and not over pricey. Pleasant staff.

Dinner service was faultless, but breakfast less so, with a less focused approach. Although our bathroom was lovely, there was some signs of wear and tear (e.g. peeling wallpaper).

The bedroom was spacious and comfortable. There was a plug in heater which seemed to work well as the weather was rather cold despite it being summer. The room had a deep "square" bath, which was rather unusual and might present problems for anyone with mobility issues. Although we were a bit concerned about hotel food we were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food both at dinner and at breakfast. Food was hot, well presented and tasty and the waiting staff were very obliging. The hotel is quite quirky, in a good location and we would stay again. There is no parking but there are car parks close by and you can get a space at Booths (food store) for free for one hour. Would recommend.

Maybe a few more seating areas for hotel residents. There was a small guest lounge but it was usually full. But this is a space issue and I understand there are limitations. Otherwise we were happy with the hotel.

Beautiful room, location great

In the lounge restaurant in the evening where our table was for dinner there was a wedding party. It was very noisy and cramped, I thought it was inappropriate to put other residents in the same room as there was plenty of room in the other restaurant. My actual meal was disappointing, I had one small piece of chicken with salad and a massive portion of fries, it looked like a child’s portion apart from the fries which I don’t eat .

We come here for 1 night every year I’m August because we like the hotel and it’s lovation but the staff change from year to year and some of them don’t make you feel particularly welcome. The young lady behind the bar last night looked bored and tired. When I asked if we could check out this morning one of the staff said just leave you key there pointing to a table. Charming! No thank you or did you enjoy your stay or anything. Luckily for us we go abroad a couple of times a year where the service is absolutely top notch and where you are welcomed with open arms

Lack of any dedicated parking for the hotel. The booking process produced odd communications including a whole page about Covid arrangements. Also I made 5 attempts to get someone to answer the phone, having left my number it was 5 hours before I received a call back

The hotel was in a central location on the town square. The room was small but functional and clean. The bar had a good selection of cask beers and the breakfast was excellent.

The real kick in the teeth was having booked in April paying £135 for bed and breakfast we found on arrival that the hotel had an offer on for new bookings £123 for dinner bed and breakfast, the value of the dinner was £20 each. In effect we paid £52 a night more than we should have done. The staff whilst sounding concerned made no effort to look at how they could improve our position. This left a very sour taste over 2 nights the extra cost was £104 Will I use booking.com in the future ? First check directly with the hotel to see if any offers are available.

A perfect location in Kirkby Lonsdale. Lovely building with character. Good food and attentive service, nothing was too much trouble.

Only one negative. A few issues with our room and unfortunately the staff member we spoke to was rather rude. We were surprised by his attitude as everyone else was really friendly and helpful.

Really good location right in the centre of the town, the breakfast was really good and the room was value for money. The room was also fairly large and the bathroom was a big size. Service from staff at breakfast was good too. Of the options available in this location this is good value for money.

Some of decoration in the room was quite tired, ripped wallpaper in the bathroom, and it could have been a little cleaner.

Perfect location and beautifully furnished room and bathroom. Loved also having a heater in the room, which was very much appreciated. Lovely tea and biscuits also available in room. Breakfast wads delicious; there was a fresh selection of pastries and hot dishes available.

I appreciate it is an old building, but struggled to close the bedroom window, so hence it was rather draughty.

I've stayed here a couple of times and we love this hotel. The place is lovely, rooms are fab and the staff are really nice. Location is perfect

The food is nice but not much of it, I ordered the scallop starter which I think was £12 and I got one scallop - I felt that was a bit ridiculous. I had a fish main and that was also very small I was still hungry. The eggs benedict was very vinegary. We ate here the last time we stayed and the food was much better than this time unfortunately.
