From the outside it is very unassuming and my lead you to think you could done better. You’d be wrong! John and Marilyn are super friendly, hospitable, true ‘mensch’. A one night stay is mostly to get a good nights rest, and this you will certainly get in abundance. The bed, sheets, duvet, are super comfortable! They have a simple but clearly proven self help setup and kindly offered me ine of their amazing avos, from their own 30-ye old tree. Absolutely delicious! If you can look past the old style home and some happily-lived-in wear and tear, this place is a hidden gem! You also feel like you’re in a peaceful dorwt with the mature garden and beautiful big old tree outside their upstairs wooden deck.

Some wear and tear showing happily-lived-in but not something I can say I didn’t like, so nothing.

The guest house is located a short drive away from the airport which was convenient for us as we had an early morning flight. The hosts were very friendly and warm and made us feel welcome in the house. We also appreciated the privacy they gave us despite being in the same house. The breakfast too was delicious and we appreciated the hosts efforts to pack it in take away packs as we had to leave early for the airport. The guest house is value for money and great for a short term stay.

There was a musty smell that hits your nose the moment you step into the house. Not sure if the carpet causes this smell but it can be quite unpleasant. Also the property does not have a generator to cater for load shedding. The hosts tell you though in advance when the load shedding is going to happen so as a guest you can plan around this.

Rooms were clean, super comfortable beds, fresh linen, small fridge, coffee, tea, milk, bottle water, shampoo, conditioner, disinfectant, soap, face cloths, crisp towels, wifi, openview: good basics Hosts and hostesses were exceptionally warm, friendly and accommodating The breakfast spread was a pleasant surprise. Great for socialising over braai or breakfast.

The weather. Lovely outdoor communal braai area, weather permitting or you'll need an alternate plan B. Road block from event at St Georges Park, meant we were diverted around the park, the long way round.

This is definitely a guest house experience, so don't expect a private hotel room. With that in mind, the people were exceptionally friendly and worked extremely hard to be helpful, including providing board games for the kids and letting us stay past check-out due to the weather. They offered a full breakfast at a modest fee and it was wonderful and tasty.

We happened to come in the coldest part of the year, and the house was cold.

This was my second overnight stay and I'll keep coming back. The location was perfect. I needed to be close to the Life St Georges Hospital and I wanted to be in a quiet area, Valley Guest House was a perfect option. The room was spacious and the bed was VERY comfortable. The bathroom was clean and even though I brought my own toiletries, they had shampoo, conditioner, soap, etc for those who forget anything. It's the perfect place for an overnight stay.

I found the TV screen very small, but as this was my second stay I was already aware of the TV size. Other than that the price matched the accommodation.

The hosts were super friendly and warm. They showed me around. I was able to meet up other members of their family Andrew and Wendy and discovered we shared something in common. The bed was so comfortable and the location was quiet, picturesque and was close to a pub.

Nothing really.

Very lovely people. Great breakfast. The house is quite old and has all the good and bad things that go with older properties. The spiral staircase can be hard to maneuver with a lot of luggage.

Powercut (load shedding) is quite common in SA. Nothing to do with host. I use CPAP machine which needs power supply.

The service you got from Andrew and the whole family was amazing. They are so welcoming and spontanious. They really made us feel welcome and at ease.

The bed was amazing! The location was perfect for me (near St George’s Hospital). Marilyn, John and Andrew were perfect friendly hosts l. Even though we only spent one night and left early the next morning, they made us feel totally welcome!

The steep driveway (tongue in cheek). If I was on my own someone would have had to reverse my car out for me 😁
