Very friendly and helpful staff, comfortable large beds and amazing location. We didn't book breakfast at the hotel because there are plenty of nice cafés in the area, very close by. There's a good amount of sunbeds and umbreallas on the roof but not too many so be sure to get there early.

There were some building/renovation works going on at the hotel while we were there and the noise was starting quite early in the morning, woke us up a few times. Room cleaning also starts early so you can hear hoovering too. Also, the pool is quite small, only 1m deep throughout and max 10 people are allowed (but really 4-5 are enough for it).

It is easy to get to the hotel from the Airport by train, it requires transfers but the subway it is easy to understand. Just one block from Puerta de Toledo and walk distance to the main attractions in the centre. 30 min approx. to the Plaza Mayor and many things to see in the way. The hotel is clean and for vegans, we have plenty options for breakfast. I paid breakfast included, I am vegan and my mom vegetarian and we were satisfied. The staff so helpful with instructions and recommendations. The cleanness spotless. Even we were facing a street, we didn't feel noise at night or other rooms noises. There is a terrace with jacuzzi, nice place, unfortunately it was raining on my visit, but I enjoyed it anyways. I recommend to go down towards Toledo Bridge and take a right along the river, nice and beautiful Gardens, great walk. Near the hotel there is a place called Burger Grill, it is small but the vegan burger is amazing and excellent service, open until late.

Everything is ok, only just a recommendation to check on the levels of soap in the bath, it ran low but it was the last night. so no big issue. All perfect.

Clean comfortable room which was cleaned everyday. Fresh and varied breakfast. Great location to main sites and shopping in Madrid. I visited the hotel with a group of friends. We used the rooftop pool and the vending machine selling cans of beer for 1 euro was useful!

The road could be a bit busy for light sleepers. There was nothing I didn't like. They placed two bottles of water in the fridge which was very helpful. Maybe any finished bottles could have been replaced as an extra touch. No tea of coffee machine either.

Hotel value for money was excellent! Room size was good, and spacious, especially bathroom area (not squeezed in facilities, as in a lot of hotels). Everything in the room worked well, and WiFi had above average connectivity! Breakfast was good with a lot a variety available, for all needs. The hotel was 10 to 15 minutes walking distance from the Plaza Mayor- Centre of Madrid, with a metro station extremely close to the hotel. The area where the hotel is situated is quiet and peaceful at night. There were 2 lifts in the hotel and they worked efficiently, for the upper floors.Cleanliness in the rooms and public areas were of a very high standard. Most importantly, the staff at reception were very efficient and friendly, especially Johanna, and also Alejandro, always available to be of help when required. Having stayed in many hotels when travelling in Europe over the years, I found this hotel to be one of the best from many points of view considering the price charged. When returning to Madrid for a holiday in the future, I would be more than happy to return and stay once again, the Porcel Ganivet hotel.

There was very little not to like really. The only thing that comes to mind, but wasn't a big problem for me, was that there was a wellness area with pool that wasn't accessible, due to renovations being done.

Spotless, excellent breakfast, courteous and helpful staff (we had a problem connecting to the internet, and they helped us), good location close to the Plaza Mayor with lots of restaurants nearby.

We made our reservation through Booking.com, but our plans had to change when the train station staff in Barcelona gave us the tickets for the wrong day. That meant we paid for a night of a hotel that we didn't use and then had to purchase an extra night in Barcelona. My suggestion is to book directly with this hotel rather than a 3rd-party seller, as sometimes things change beyond your control.

I stayed at this hotel last year and found the hotel OK. I was not quite sure about going back but I wanted to pick something up from a shop nearby. I am so glad I did go back to the Hotel Ganivet! Although the building is exactly the same the atmosphere is completely different. All the staff were welcoming, helpful, kind and always smiling. I loved every minute of my stay at this hotel and thank you to all the staff. This year, whilst carrying a rucksack and wheeling a heavy suitcase, I did not have to go out onto the road and hail a cab to take me to the station, as I was told to do last year! The lovely young man on reception ordered a taxi for me and he checked that I was ready to go when it arrived. The reception staff greeted people when the guests were entering and leaving the hotel. That is true hotel hospitality service. My room was clean and the lady cleaner was charming and very efficient. It was great to have a terrace to sit out on especially with the exceptionally hot nights this summer. The room AC worked really well. Although I say below that Calle Toledo is a bit run down either turn right into Lavapiés or head up to the Plaza Mayor where the buildings are better maintained and there are livelier shops. It is great fun exploring the side streets in the area.

Calle Toledo is rather dirty and there is a noisy nightclub almost opposite but I felt safe walking around on my own at night. The Jacuzzi on the roof is great for cooling down on a hot day but the lifeguard needs to insist that people shower before going in the pool. I was the only person who did so whilst I was on the terrace, everyone else just went straight in the pool. The water had a layer of oil and little suds on the top which was a bit yuk!

The reception staff were welcoming and helpful. Our room was comfortable and spacious with a wonderful view across the city. We were able to walk to the main plaza or catch a bus easily from the hotel. The range of food at breakfast was excellent and the staff were continually keeping up supply.

Not much I didn’t like except there was no tea making facility in the room, but this is common in Spain and Portugal. Not many dining options in close proximity although we could have eaten in.

The location of the hotel was absolutely amazing, being about a 2 minute walk to the nearest Metro Station and a short walk to the city centre! The room was well isolated, with us being on the street side and still hearing nothing from that. The airco was great, (though it gave me and my friend a headache after turning it on for a little while). The staff were friendly and it was very clean.

The refrigerator wasn't all that cold. It took more than 24 hours to get to an even close to cold temperature with our drinks in it. We were confused whether it was even working at all quite often.

very good, clean, very good location (15/20 min city center and not all hectic of city center), pool is decent, drinks at pool cheap, rooms cleaned very good and decent

at swimming pool a Spanish lady was very annoying and even grabbed a chair from another guest. staff did not respond and let her take the chair from someone else and screaming. i felt that staff was not acting good and also told this to them. it was a miracle that it didn’t turned jnto a fight. hotel should do better next time this was very bad …

For the money, it was great

The bed. The bed is badly positioned, constantly moves around if you change you position or if you like to lean against the wall, it slides all over the room. Like it is made of paper. If you blow on it it will move around. I wanted to work on my bed and it moved around all the time. Plus the pillows are too long. They are like 1m long and generally good but a weird shape. Bad should be bolted into the wall or at least weight down not to move.
