This hotel is beautiful and the Roast duck dinner is exceptional. Breakfast is really good and really great service from all the staff.

The beds were rock hard and we both ended up with back aches. I am told patrons from Asia loved hard beds, but Europeans like softer beds with mattress that have some give in them . I wish there was a choice of soft or hard bed. I cannot say we will stay here again the back ache lasted days.

This hotel had a lovely ambiance, with a free tea hour and live music the afternoon that we checked in. We loved the way that the rooms, hallways, etc. were decorated. Great location close to Chinatown markets, which was some of the best food we had in Bangkok. Transportation was a little tricky - but you can take either a taxi, or walk about 15 minutes to the hop on, hop off boat. The staff were also very kind, friendly, and helpful.

My biggest complaint was how thin the walls were. The people staying in the room next to ours returned to their room quite late at night, and the walls were so thin it sounded like they were speaking loudly in the same room as us.

Shanghai Mansion is simple to find, and has a great atmosphere upon entering. You first enter to a bar/restaurant area, with live music overlooking the busy street of food stalls. Approaching the reception, across the bridge over a pond, the noise of the street decreases and there is a warm, welcoming smell. You are greeted with smiles and a glass of cold refreshing tea before checking in. You are shown to your bedroom, which are decorated just as pictures show, with a large comfy bed! No windows in the bedroom, which personally throws me off a little as I much prefer natural light. Room service (food/drink) and laundry services are available. Pros: Welcoming - kind and friendly staff Great spa - massage was amazing Ideal location for a wide range of food Comfy bed

Cons (Being picky here...): There is no natural light in the bedroom (where I stayed, at least) so can leave you feeling slightly groggy There isn't a detachable shower head, only the waterfall type fitted to the wall

The art, furniture, room style and interior architecture was a true testament to Shanghai in the old tradititions. The tea and appetizer complimentary offer with the excellent traditional chord instrument female musician playing for us was a divine pleasure for the senses. And the SPA professional therapeutic massage with herb scented oil that I chose was absolutely wonderful and very reasonably priced for a two hours session. To top it all, the staff at this hotel was wonderful and kind and helpful in every way, including helping me get a taxi with the Grab app while helping me learn how to use my newly downloaded app. Because of all that, I really think this hotel and its staff deserve a 10 perfect score. I will certainly return there on my next trip to Bangkok.

I changed after the first night fom a small room to a larger more luxurious room because the smaller room was too humid and small for me. There were very few tv channels working, but, really, you do not come to a place like this to watch tv. The breakfast area was a bit small and was close to the front of the hotel and opened on the street so we hear the traffic noise. There is a dinning room upstairs but it seemed to be closed while I stayed there.

The location is superb right in the heart of Bangkok Chinatown. At night the surroundings get very noisy and lively but it's totally quiet in the rooms.

All rooms of this hotel seem to only have fake windows looking at the internal yard, creating a nice atmosphere of 1930s gloomy Shanghai but not providing any real sunlight, which makes you not understand what time it is and makes it harder to wake up in the morning. Still, good enough for keeping the authentic atmosphere and may not be so good for long stays. Also, the staff was OVERpolite, I'd say too much, they kept ringing the phone and knocking on the door just to excuse for knocking on my door by mistake earlier, thus disturbed me a few additional times and nearly annoyed with their politeness.

The hotel design is unforgettable. I felt like a bond girl staying here. also, the soaker tub and shower with scalding hot water was a blessing after travelling through Thailand for a month; many people claim “hot water showers” but when you experience them they are not. Shanghai Mansion had the hottest water for a soaker tub bath, I had to add some cold to the end as was too hot. Breakfast was amazing with stations to create your own soup, waffles, and/or omelets. Housekeeping was prompt and all staff very friendly. This gives them 5 stars from me.

Stunning building with great attention to detail, perfect location in the center of Chinatown, well-located to access public transit.

We booked the smallest room. Size wasn’t a problem at all, but our room was located right in front of the elevator, and the double swinging doors into the room (while super cool) don’t afford much sound dampening. We would have expected the room to be quieter, especially considering there was no exterior window in our room. The bathroom was nice even without the standalone bathtub from the upgraded rooms, but the fittings (eg. the toilet) might be due for some updating soon.

We stayed at Shanghai Mansion for 2 nights on our way home from a tour of several Thailand locations. We chose the hotel specifically to experience the crazy heart of Chinatown, and that was exactly what we got! The hotel is located in the centre of the the main road of Bangkok's Chinatown, it is a busy street during the day and at night it is a throng of both locals and tourists sampling the street food from the vendors who line both sides of the street. The hotel is about a 10 minute walk from the river and just a few minutes from the metro station. The hotel itself is nicely decorated in a retro style and our room was large with all the facilities, TV, mini bar, AC, robe & slippers etc. The rooms don't have much natural light. Despite the street noise, our room was very quiet and we slept well on our firm but comfy bed. Breakfast was basic but good.

Room was generally very clean but there were a few cobwebs and a couple of marks on the bed linen. The Wifi was quite patchy in our room.

The hotel is situated in the very heart of Chinatown. Considering its location the quietness at the rooms came as a suprise. The rooms were small the beds were ok and the breakfast was pretty good. Starting from this location to explore Chinatown and Bangkok is a completely different, very intense experience compared what we kept in mind from Khaosan Road. Chinatown is full of street food and spicy dishes, lots of gold selling stores and many other temptations. The restaurant belonging to the hotel was open 6 days a week (closed on Mondays) offering live music in the evening (not always enjoyable) excellent drinks and good food. As guests in here are usually on the road the small rooms cannot be seen as a problem.

Despite every day cleaning the smell of urine from the shower was quiet strong and led us to close the bathroom at night to not have the feeling that we would sleep in a public toilet.

We were greeted with refreshing chrysanthemum tea and allowed to check in early. The hotel is stunning and stylish from top to bottom, and our rooms were kept blissfully cool. It was a perfect haven from the hot, busy street outside without all of the noise. This was without a doubt the most convenient location in Chinatown, with everything at your doorstep. The bar has a great vibe, and though we didn't dine at the restaurant, the food looked delicious. Service was wonderful and attentive, and our return airport transfer service was excellent. Highly recommended.

The beds are on the firmer side, and the downlighting in the room (while relaxing) is quite unflattering and makes putting on makeup challenging. The breakfast buffet was so-so and costs $10 USD per person (not included in room rate). We booked and paid for an airport pickup ahead of time but it never showed up due to a miscommunication (however the staff was very gracious and apologetic). We didn't get an opportunity to use the spa as it books up quickly due to popularity.
