A brand new and very attractive hotel called The Tempus built to the highest standards, separate from the original Charlton Hall. Large and very comfortable ground-floor room and bathroom, opening out onto the patio and terrace with views to beautiful open country. Excellent sophisticated cuisine and friendly staff. Dog-friendly, with welcome biscuits provided! Location not far from the sea. Very good value.

Lack of bath in the bathroom despite lots of space. Over-complicated 'touch' lightswitches, hard to see in the dark. Still a lot of building work in progress, with some associated noise. Our satnav couldn't find the hotel. Directions are needed from Booking.com and/or the hotel saying that the hotel address of Chathill is misleading; the driveway into the estate grounds is indicated by a sign on the A1 near the beginning of a short stretch of dual carriageway.

We stayed in the Tempus Hotel which has just opened. So whilst the room was beautiful and spacious, there were a few teething problems. The bedroom and dressing room were very well equipped with storage space and all furniture and fittings were of a very high standard. The breakfast was beautifully cooked and with a lot of choice. Vegan diets were well catered for. The staff were professional and friendly. The location is beautiful and once all the building work is complete, the hotel will be fabulous!

The bathroom fan didn’t work and the lights flickered when on ‘relaxing’ mode.

The room we were given exceeded expectations. Got much more than expected for the price paid. We were placed in a suite in the pole barn. We had a bath and a coffee machine and the bathroom had two sinks and was spotless! Especially convenient being so close to the wedding we attended. Parking was right outside so that was also ideal! Breakfast was great. The coffee came in a cafetière which was a great touch!

The car park was covered in gravel which looks lovely however given the venue being next to the main house used for weddings and the tempus which I assume a lot of people choose to dress up for, it isn’t easy to walk on in heels! It would be better if there were fully paved paths between all buildings but this is a minor point and the venue is stunning overall.

The breakfast included with the price of the room was outstanding. The food was delicious and the menu was surprisingly broad.

The light switches in our room were extremely unuseful. They were smart switches, which means there was some computer-based rules that determined which lights would turn on or off when a switch was pressed. It took a lot of experimentation. The bedside lights and USB charging ports were also inexplicably wired directly to the hallway lights. The hallway lights were turned off at night and would come on when motion was detected. This meant they didn't work at night unless you walked out into the hall. It was bizarre.

This was our fourth time of staying at Charlton Hall and Tempus and it is absolutely wonderful in our opinion. Beautiful peaceful location. Rooms are lovely, unusual quirky decor. Bathrooms good size. Tempus rooms are all brand new. Boutique suites are stunning though a little pricey. Definately got the Wow factor. Lovely restaurant, nice food, staff exceptional and attentive. Bar staff knowledgeable and all staff well mannered and friendly. Lovely grounds for a wander and seating area for drinks. Plenty parking. Lots to do near by. We can't wait to return.

Absolutely nothing.

Stunning location, although very remote. We had two rooms in the tempus building, one was very bright & quirky, the other, completely different. Shower & bath were perfect. Comfortable bed and pillows. Breakfast was freshly cooked and nice and made to order.

Check in!! After a 5 & 1/2 hour journey, we arrived around 2.30, the last thing we wanted to be told was, check in isn’t until 3pm, go for a walk around and come back. Returned to reception at 3pm to be told one room was ready, the other one wasn’t!!! Got the keys for the second room around 3.25, not impressed with this. The blonde girl on reception wasn’t particularly friendly, her reason was it was a full turn around on changing the rooms and they were short staffed…..how is this our problem??? We also tried to book to go in the restaurant, but were told it was full. We were sitting in the bar/ restaurant area at around 7pm when we tried to book a table and lo and behold, lots of empty tables?!

The location and facilities are stunning. The staff were friendly and helpful. I liked being able to enter the Hall itself , it was in fully preparations for a wedding, this was really nice to see. I enjoyed the lodges, as I didn’t realise they were in the grounds. Vineyard, can’t wait to see how it develops. The bath and wet room shower were lovely.

The room was smaller than I expected. Leaving the next morning at 10 am is quite early as we were an hour late getting into our room the day before, due to it not being ready. It felt the stay for one night was cut short somewhat. I do appreciate the turn around for cleaning and preparing the rooms maybe tight, but the cost should reflect having a slight increase on the breakfast/checkout timings.

We stayed in a room in the old house, it was stylish and comfortable. It was also quiet. This part of the hotel is used as a wedding venue. So is possibly not available at the weekends during summer. The bed was exceptionally comfortable. The WIFI worked well. The grounds are attractive, surrounded by woodland and countryside. The breakfasts were excellent as was dinner. The staff were pleasant. Meals are taken in the modern building on the site. We would definitely like to revisit.

The long explanations of finding the place, which came through to me three times were an overkill. It gave me the impression I would need to use the car to get around the estate. In fact the main buildings are close by one another. Be aware that you need to make sure you ask for your room to be cleaned. There should be a card to hang on the door. When we asked about it the implication was that we had missed the card. We did not actually have one. A small niggle, but irritating.

This is the second time we have stayed here and it was even better than the first. Room was quiet, spacious with French doors leading to an outside seating area with views of open countryside. Bathroom was very roomy and modern with a great shower. Restaurant/orangery was open plan with lovely decor and served great food. Bar had booths and other comfortable seating areas. Plenty parking. Staff were all lovely. We will definately be back.

Absolutely nothing.

Location near the A1 was good as travelling to and from. Hotel lovely. Very quirky. Main house where we stayed was lovely and views spectacular. We had a huge room and bathroom and again quirky decor but nice. Main building we where told was new and nicely decorated. Restaurant was very nice and bar cosy and inviting.

It was a rainy day when we arrived and a bit of a mission walking across the gravel And mud to reception. Path was not continuous and this could of been improved. Breakfast was not great and had to wait to be served, wait for plates, fruit, glasses etc. very badly organised but no fault of the waitresses who were run off their feet. I had a vegan breakfast which was missing the tomato but had black pudding !! Good job I’m not a vegetarian. Although a quirky hotel which was great , there was a thin line between quirky and tacky.
