The staff are lovely and helpful. Rooms are well appointed.

There is no dedicated parking. There's no latte coffee available at breakfast, filter coffee only. I'd have liked fresh milk rather than plastic sachets in my room. I'd have liked more attention to detail in the painting in my bathroom window. The bar closed at 10pm.

Very good location. Hotel looks good from the outside, and is only a few steps away from the church and Green. The church bells gently ring regularly, very lovely. The breakfasts are exceptionally tasty and the waitresses helpful and are very respectful. We had a modern bedroom which was cleaned every day. The tea/ coffee tray included caramel wafers and delicious rhubarb tea. Dogs are allowed.

The bar wasn’t very cosy and bottles were heavily thrown into a bin causing unexpected crashing noises. There was a long wait for food. We like using the bar areas in hotels but unfortunately not this one.

Great location in the centre of Ballater. Lovely traditional Scottish decor, with a smashing lounge and open fire. Food in the restaurant was top notch, locally sourced. Free car park across the road or street parking outside. Very friendly and professional staff. Nothing was too much trouble. Comfy beds and very clean rooms. No noise at night.

Had a slow running drain in the sink and shower, which I suspect was partially blocked. Reported it to reception, but it didn't really improve during our 5 night stay. Problems of an old property, I suppose.

The food in particular was excellent. We both had dietary requirements and these were no problem at all to be catered for. The room itself was spacious, especially the bathroom, and the staff were all very friendly. Although we had some issues with the bathroom's cleanliness, the main bedroom seemed very clean and the amenities that were available in the room were excellent - the plugs next to the bed even had USB sockets for our phone chargers, which was a bonus and unexpected.

Our bathroom did have some cleaning issues that we didn't get a chance to mention as we only noticed them just before we checked out and only stayed there one night. The side of the bath had a ring on it from a mug or a glass (previous occupant) and the shower head had someone else's hair on it. Around the edge of the bathroom window was a large amount of black dirt and the skirting boards in the bathroom were very dusty, all of which gave me concerns on how much the bathroom was cleaned before our arrival.

We loved everything about our stay at the Balmoral Arms! The room was very generously sized (including an enormous bed), bathroom new and clean, and the thoughtful complimentary gifts for humans and dogs were a lovely touch. The hotel in general is super dog-friendly, and the bar area was a wonderfully comfortable place to sit and have a quiet drink/snacks after a long day in the hills. Breakfast is generous, and location is perfect. Staff were also incredibly friendly and helpful. We cannot wait to return.

Great location- didn’t take breakfast .

Bar/ restaurant service was friendly but lacking in professionalism . No wine list was offered, & when asked what white wine was available the staff member said they didn’t know much about wine and leant over the bar to check the bottles. We reserved a table earlier in the day & arrived to find a scrap of paper with “Reserved” written on it- instead of a proper sign. Another client was brought a glass of wine, but not on a tray. It looked a bit casual, although your menu was good. You have no real competition in town, so it wouldn’t take much effort to look really slick and more polished ! Our room was very clean & comfy. Friendly staff.

Everything! Its just the perfect location in one of the most ideal Scottish towns. The hotel staff took care of us really well and were so welcoming and helpful everytime. They even called us in advance of our visit to check our preferences for the room and food. The Room was so comfortable and even better is their lounge that made such an amazing Christmas eve. The restaurant is simply fantastic with a great menu done so well. Some of the best walks are just next door and its so close to Balmoral Castle and Glenshee skiing location. The local community and shops make the place ideal to visit and we would certainly be staying in Balmoral arms again! It was an exceptional expression.

Nothing! Everything was superb

The staff were exceptional and went out of their way to ensure we had everything we needed. Very comfortable room and the bar and restaurant were wonderful. Our favourite spot to spend time was the lounge - perfect spot to enjoy a dram in front of the fire after a day of hiking! The town itself is charming and the location is perfectly centrally situated to easily enjoy all the castles, mountains and sites the area has to offer. Nothing is much more than 20-30 minute drive away.

-parking was easy; - great location in centre of town; - clean & comfortable; - property has a nice Scottish ambience.

- service in the restaurant for dinner was slow; - didn’t like the inclusion of an automatic service charge on our dinner bill (although were advised we didn’t have to pay it if we didn’t want to); - bedside table lamp and one over-bed light not working; -although not a problem for us, travelers should be aware accommodation is over a number of levels with quite a few stairs.

Me and my partner stayed for the night 2 weeks ago at Balmoral Arms after visiting Balmoral Castle (only a 13 minute drive away), we had a delightful stay the staff are so warm and welcoming and the hotel itself is stunning just what I imagined it would be. We were offered a free upgrade to the Balmoral suite which I will definitely be staying in again when I next visit l. I was amazed with how clean and big the room was it was the cosiest room with a view of the Christmas lights from our window and just had everything you needed. We also had breakfast that was included in our stay and was absolutely delicious and very filling. I can’t fault this hotel and couldn’t recommend it enough if you are thinking of staying in the area. 10/10
